It's so hard to forgive someone who made you suffer for so long
@Tsar Alester I don´t have nobody to forgive. My family never made me suffer. What about you?
Tsar Alester no. Just harmless pranks
@@yakunohayashi9653 how do you know its so hard to forgive if you never experienced that?
Tsar Alester I can tell you a couple of stories more than a couple.
Brabo Ferreira It ain’t easy I can tell you that
"You ain't gotta love me but you going to know that I LOVE YOU" dam that's when someone started chopping onions 😭.
i lost it when chiron started crying. like his strong facade just fell apart in that moment. you can feel all his built up pain and trauma
Yeah his whole adulthood was about trying to be somwbody he wasnt and that scene brought out his more vulnerable side that he kept hidden away
@@BobPantsSpongeSquare97 True, he was just building a shell with all that muscle and looking hard and stuff.
How this woman didn't receive the Oscar for this scene alone is upsetting!
She deserved it over Viola, if you ask me. Both brilliant performances, but I truly believe the reason Viola won is because it was the "bigger" performance. Naomie's performance, even in her most dramatic scenes like this one, was very subdued, understated, and quiet, which I personally find harder to portray emotion with. Viola's snot-nosed screaming was incredible, but we should also just admit that she should've been nominated in the Best Actress category, not the Best Supporting Actress one. Naomie was still better regardless. ;)
She was the common denominator in the two best scenes in the film IMHO...The scene where Juan confronts her on the block and this scene.
Delusion. Viola was better than Naomi. Viola shouldnt have been in a Supporting category though.
dee clem it’s not delusion to have a different opinion.
@@aaronmichael1201 nope and nope
There’s not one dull character in this film
Vault Dweller Terrel.
Except these fucking bullies. Chiron gave their leader what he deserves...
They’re so... real
When he lights her cigarette he hands it back to her like Juan had handled his cigarette, so much attention to detail in how he feels he needs to be a man.
WOW never noticed that. As if I needed more proof that Moonlight is an absolute masterpiece... the details oof
Also notice when she tries to light it she covers it so it appears she’s hitting a crack pipe. She goes for the “pipe” as soon as he says he hates her. The shame she felt all those years contributed to the endless cycle of addiction.
@@mickeyhutchinson6922he said “i hear you mama”
Some relationships are better kept from a distance.
Thank you so much love
Oh my God bro.....
Amen!!
No that's his mother regardless and shes sick she was sick its not her fault its not chirons fault either
Karmyn Marie so her falling into addiction isn’t her fault? Literally kicked him out of the house as a teen to smoke crack
I can't believe it took her only 3 days to film the movie like?? the amount of emotions she conveyed... This is beyond talent
In an interview, I think it was with Barry Jenkins, the director, who said that the film crew was crying like babies during this scene.
Lmao shut up no one was crying
I'm crying now, and I've seen this film many many times. Ms. Harris was amazing. She's the only actor appearing in all three parts, and in each she was terrific. This performance deserved the Oscar!
I don't blame them
Fight Week! Podcast 63 subs lol
Trevante did an amazing act in this scene
He is the perfect type of actor we need
Strong muscular handsome with amazing emotional performance
He’s a future star.
I think.
I hope.
50 cent could have played him
His mother’s speech has touched me so much, it came from a quite remorseful place too. I think it is the right thing any abuser in a situation like this should say or offer.
Naomie Harris shot all her scenes in only a few days, yet she managed to portray a broken character in three very different chapters of her life.
I undrestand all the buzz around Viola Davis for Fences, but I still stand by the fact that Naomie should have won. This was an incredible performance - three incredible performances, actually.
I think if the Best Actress category that year was less competative and full, Davis would have gotten the nomination in that section rather than supporting.
I agree
2:42 That is the real difficult moment for Chiron. When his mom admits her faults and begs sympathy from him, he has nothing but to fight back his tears. It's someone that hurt you who said these words, owes you a lot but wants to make peace with you. When she realizes she needs to ask for less from you, then you can let your anger go and first show your suffering and then show your forgiveness, to make sure that humanity won't fail. I'm a Chinese but I feel him right now.
I can never watch this movie without sobbing uncontrollably. This scene reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: "To forgive is an act of compassion. It's not done because people deserve it, it's done because they need it".
He wanted to get some peace after all this years, that's why he accepted her apology...she wouldn't be forgiven if he was alright...but at that time he was so far off, he got whatever he could just for some closure
Can't forget the words Juan told him at the end of Act 1, "Yeah, I hated my mom too. Miss her like hell now though.." I feel like those words were intended to be Juan's last piece of guidance before he passed away.
I don't think he can truly hate her. He knows that her addiction and circumstances let her chose the wrong way. Maybe it was triggered by the father leaving them and she was too weak. Juan is gone and he probably misses him, just like Juan said he misses his mother. When people die, there is nothing left. So he can't break up with her completely because he would regret it if she died.
Emotionally absent parents don't deserve a relationship with their children.
Andrei Plopeanu Maybe, but honestly, hate and anger are exhausting. Holding on to them is exhausting. Forgiveness here struck me as less about forgetting her sins as severing the anchor of his grief at her failure as a mother. It was weighing them both down.
I get it. I was angry with my failed parent for a long time. I had to let it go. I had to forgive whatever was broken was in them that they couldn’t fulfill their basic biological duty as a parent. You have to move on. You have to live.
Dave That's the problem with the black community. We are matriarchal. The women can do no wrong, and the men are always demonized. You only get one mom but that doesn't mean her sins should be forgiven. You see how she has the audacity to lecture him even though she fucked up her life and his life. The arrogance that she has is the same arrogance most black women have and that's the problem.
One of the best-acted scenes I’ve ever seen
This scene is making me cry right now, when I first watched it I only wished that would be my mother who at the time has constantly yelled and called me names, but today I saw another side of her, and how I realized I would lash out and insult her back, funnily enough I open up TH-cam to see this to be the first video recommended to me, almost like a sign that both of us will forgive each other in the end of all of this, it gives me hope
I’ll never get over that she didn’t win the Oscar for this film. She was outstanding, superb. I can’t tell you all how much this moved, I was in tears. I love Viola and she was great, but Harris was part of something more with this film. 👸🏽
this is one of the best scene i've ever watched among all movies. look how emotionally black's mom is trying to explain how regret she had in the past when she didn't give black enough love
When she said " I love you" I bawled.
Bawled
“Your heart ain’t gotta be black like mine” is a killer line. That pierces the soul
First time I watched Moonlight, this scene in particular made me cry like a baby. Such a wonderful movie. Haven't seen a film better than this since.
Its a powerful movie you should watch interstellar if you haven’t another masterpiece
Green book was nice
“ I’m sorry baby, I’m so sorry” is something every neglected/abused child wants to hear. It shouldn’t take years, death, or old age to make someone realize they didn’t give their child love.
I mean tbh, most abusive parents will never get to this place. If they could, they probably wouldn’t have been abusive in the first place.
this is like arguably the greatest apology scene ever. It brought some sort of validation where you'd think there was none to be found.
Her 'sorry' will never be enough, no matter how much she regrets what she did. He had a chance for a good life, and its was lost because of her.
James George in the very end he got to live a life true to himself, something some people with great childhoods dont even come close to. All the pain he felt led him to a point of honest living, that is what i call succes.
@@xXArseni the dude deals drugs and can't get laid because he's gay
James George trials and tribulations are necessary to be put on a path destined for you, at least i believe so
James George him being gay is not part of the problem.
James George hope you’re not implying her drug abuse made him gay lmao
I think what made this scene even more powerful for me was the fact that Chiron had the guts to forgive her. I mean her mom made his life a living hell, and part of me wanted Chiron to deny forgiving her mom after all the shit she put him through, but I think that's what makes him a stronger character in the end because he is capable of forgiving.
this movie ripped out my soul
The acting was so natural that it feels so real...
Love this film
Damn the acting in this movie is superb.
Amazing scene
When I first saw this in the theater I felt a tremendous well of tears building up inside of me. It took all I had not to burst out crying.
I saw this movie a number of times in theaters. At one viewing an older Latina was crying like a baby. Her son ( I assume) was trying to comfort her by quietly joking about her crying so profusely. It didn't work.
This Movie Broke My Heart. Even tho I dont totally relate to what he went through I completely empathized with his struggles.
That's a great sign of amazing writing, stellar acting, and superb direction...all seen in this scene.
He is so handsome!
No matter the relationship Chiron always listened to Paula.
beautiful film
I grew up with an addict mother like Chiron and my mom was sentenced to 10 years, she has been in prison for about 3 years but she got parole and will be getting out in about a year. When she gets out, I want to show her this movie and especially this scene so we can relate more.
I hope it brings both of you together brother.
Are you alright?
How did it go? Sending you love & light ❤
make you wanna get up n hug yo mama
iconic scene. Naomi was a revelation.
Just watched this film and absolutely bawled at this scene, which is odd because I totally knew where it was going, so I didn't expect the emotional wallop. Can you just imagine the total shame she is feeling and the hidden reasons as to why she was veiling her emotions with drugs? Generational trauma is so hard to tame and control. Every actor in this film is superb.
One of the greatest films of all time.
Every single scene in this movie is creative genius, the dialogue, camera angle & movement, setting, felling and vibe etc. No waist whatsoever, it will be studied in years to come.
she was shaking out of guilt
Who's over here cutting onions damn it?
I'm a new fan of her she is a great actress.
If Mahershala Ali won for his role, WHY DIDN'T SHE?!
davis snot crying and snot screaming
i'm not crying, you are
Lets not forgot she’s british!
Went through the same thing but with my father. And i forgave him for all he did to me and my mom. Powerful scene my me cry so much.
What sensational performances!
1:42 this interaction [to me] has always felt like a parallel to when Juan and Paula were arguing.
That was a good observation I never noticed that
This scenes makes me cry bro like damn man this was a conversation I had with my mother when she got into rehab for the last time that woman I swear is the only person in the entire world that could break down my walls I've seen so much hurt ,pain and death in my short 33 years of life but that woman the only one that could reach the little boy inside me.
This scene always gets me emotional
If only it hadn’t taken her 20 years to say all that
This hit hard for me. In some ways, very relatable character. It can be difficult to forgive, but not impossible.
When he lit the cigarette for her, that very subtly showed how bad of a mother she was to him, its so tragic that this happens to so many kids all over the world
Can we just recognize for a second that this actress is/was a British woman in her late 30's when she shot this scene AND was only on the set for like 3 days and still was able to absolutely NAIL this scene! My goodness.
this movie was so amazing
this movie hit on a different level when you actually been through what chiron been through..
2:45 gets me every single time... gets the broken parts of me
Yes. Hits deep .
I can only hope that she shot all of her scenes in exact chronological order so that way she could better immerse herself into the idea that she’s a mother growing with her child
She didn't All shot out of order due to her visa problems. She's British. She went from old to young and back again. All out of order.
Sad scene😔😔
Viola Davis should have won best actress and Naomie Harris supporting actress.
Best scene
“Yo heart aint gotta be BLACK like mine baby” that wasn’t coincidental
Gettin me all teary eyed n shitt
I was blubbering like a baby during this scene
I can’t help but see her role as Tia Dalma in POTC. I was shook when I realized it was her. Anyway, where’s the Oscar??
i just found she's British, her accent is so good! but, then again i'm not American. Does she really sound African American to other African Americans??
yuval158 yes, she's really good at her accent. And she especially nailed her previous takes
She sound like she from the ATL
Yes! Perfect! Flawless! When I told an African -American man she was British, he was flabbergasted. He couldn't believe it.
Dammit! Stop hiring british people to play the American! Stop bamboozling us!
@@joncarr1200
Here's an idea. British movie actors start in theater. Maybe that has something to do with why they are so good. In earlier years a lot of American actors started in theater. Long gone. Now bodybuilders, bodyguards, bartenders, etc. go straight into acting. Not good imo.
shit had me balling omg
This actress is British for those that didn't know.
I don't know why she was telling Chiron what do what his life but you wasn't in his life that much letting other people take care of your son
She cared about him it shows in the first part of the act she was worried and wasnt addicted to crack yet but after her addiction she wanted to try to rebuild something that was broken
She knew she messed up with the drugs so of course she the last person to talk, but she still wants the best for her son
Mother is the name for god in the lips and hearts of all children.
Great scene
I can/will forgive my mom, even though she cause me hurt, pain and suffering. To have acknowledge her wrong and to hear her say I Love you, help me to forgive and say I love her too.
Damit who left these onions here
ma'am who chopping onions in here????
It would have been crazier if he had said I'm not Chiron no more I'm Black.
I never forgive
I'm not from this culture and I find it hard for mothers to not have lasting love for their children. I can only imagine. It must be drug related
"I'm not from this culture" What the hell? 😂
@@Katyerina my best attempt in English =)
Here's a poll. What's the better acting scene? This, or the one between Denzel and his son in Fences? I know Mahershala Ali has a better scene in Moonlight and Viola Davis kills it with Washington in Fences. But it's this scene Vs. the trailer for Fences. Call it Friendo.
This, as it's also the better movie
does anyone think he'll see her soon enough? please let me know, thanks
50 cent could have played chiron
Tia Dalma is the best
💪🏾
LORD KNOWS!!!
