Every year, on the date as close to 9/11 as possible, I show my student two piece of storycorps, this and the one from Beverly Eckert. Every year it makes my students cry and causes the most wonderful and open conversation. It is the perfect way to remember and connect 17 and 18 year olds with events that happened when they were toddlers. Thank you to Joe Sr. and storycorps!

I was thinking about this recently and how relatable it may be soon. I'm active duty Navy with a deployment coming up this year and recently went back home to celebrate New Years 2022 with my family. It's not so much for me, but for my Grandmas: My mom's 81yo mom is in the early stages of dementia, and my dad's 91yo mom has been having some other mental and physical health issues. So I made sure to visit home to give them both a hug and to say "I love you" in case neither is there when I hopefully can visit again next Cristmas.

My dad was a volunteer firefighter for 30+years, so this really hit home for me. Thankfully I still have my dad. Recently though one of the guys that was in the same station as my dad passed away. He was a really great guy and my sister and I were friends with his kids. His wife called us and asked us to call some of the guys from the old days to let them know. So R.I.P Wayne Wilson...You will be missed by everyone who knew you.

When my dad would leave for combat, every time we talked on the phone i had to tell him "i love you" at least 5 times. Because every time i never knew if that was the last time. Every night it was the same thing. I got so accustomed to it I still do to this day. This really fucking hurt.
