Some people's parents were rough on them simple because they weren't ready to be parents or had no idea how, for someone like Samuel, it was just tough love, and by the sound of it, his dad wasn't violent because he knew how to get his children to respect him without forcing it out of them.

I just lost my dad a few weeks ago.
He was a 40 year Carpenter.
He was a master craftsman and could build or fix anything.
He whipped me when I needed it and hugged me when I needed.
He built our family home from the ground up and had a reputation in our town as the man who could be counted on to get the job done and done right.
There were over 400 people who attended his funeral.
And I've seen grown men cry over his passing.
My dad was and will always be my hero.
I feel lost, like my soul has been ripped from my body.
I don't know what I did to be blessed with the Dad I got but I couldn't have asked for a better man to lead, mold and shape me into the man I am today.
Every time we spoke he made it a point to say I love you son and I always told him I love him
That was the last thing I told him when we talked on the phone the night before he died.
    I miss you dad.
Thank you for all you did for me
    I love you so much.

It was a common practice. Instead of outright buying groceries, families would have the items marked in a ledger, and pay at the end of the month. My dad had this in the rural he area he's from, but I didn't know urban stores had this system.

    • @folgerkelley2715

To be fair I think these relationships were more common a couple decades ago. Credit and debit cards were new/not available yet and store owners had it in their best interest to keep product moving (especially since things like milk go bad, better to sell it and lose 25¢ selling it for less or on credit than to lose the whole 1$ if it went I bought) corner and grocers were also more likely to be locally owned and run, no supervisor or CEO in another state to breath down management’s neck about the numbers

This really hit me hard. My dad used to be a trucker and I remember watching him laying down in the bed doing tired and I doing the same thing the kid does in the animation. He didn’t ask me to rub his feet since truckers don’t usually work standing up but sitting down and driving for hours on end. He asked me to rub his lower back since he was always in pain. I remember every night him leaving at 3:00am and seeing him again around 6:00pm. What parents would go through to provide for their children.

It’s the kind of shit where I’m thankful for the “backbone of America” to remain a relevant thing. My dads a scrapper/demo worker ever since he was too old to be in the army after 9/11. It’s why I think the army is a great option if me becoming a chef or whatever else I do fails. I make MREs for the military, hell maybe even create a MRE so good and nutritious, it’ll be remembered like the K Ration from WWII to some degree. That’ll be amazing. That’s how I can serve my country.

  • @lullabydreams385
    @lullabydreams385 7 ปีที่แล้ว +86

This reminds me exactly of my dad. Most of my family were immigrants from other countries, I remember kids always messed with me because of my race and my color and still today they did, but my dad always been there for me teaching how to be strong and stand up even if things were hard. He help me with homework, taught me valuable life lessons, teach me manners, and discipline me and my siblings well, he'll also sometimes talk to me how hard it is in the past when he lived back in his country. He had a rougher childhood than mine and I know it. He switch jobs to a harder and much more dangerous job, I didn't barely see him that much after that, but he did it to support our family by being pay more. Each time he comes home he looks exhausted and the more I want to do everything or anything for him. But when he goes back to work walking out the door as me and my siblings hugs him wishing him goodbye it kills me when he says, "I love you." Before he walks out the door. The more it happens, the more I miss him. I'm afraid something bad might happen to him and I wasn't there to be with him.

Most of us lived this story with our parents and now I get to live it again with my family. My husband works in oil refineries across the US. We had our daughter just before the pandemic hit and he was laid off. It was hard but it was our blessing. He was able to stay home with our baby while I worked. For that little over a year he was able to bond with her. He now spends more than 3/4 of his time traveling around the US for work. He rarely sees us but I make sure my baby knows his extreme sacrifice for his family. She went through a cancer diagnosis and he had to work out of state the entire time she went through treatments. What our men do for their families is indescribable because they feel like superheroes to their families. Mr. John Black and men like him all over the world should be celebrated every single chance we can. They literally miss life as they work to provide for their families. I’m crying as I write this. It doesn’t seem fair, but very necessary. ❤❤❤

The only people who disliked this has to be racist, there’s literally no other reason I can think of.
This story has an actual emotional effect, charm and good animation behind for being made in 2012.

Or animated snobs. If it’s not Disney level high frame rates where everything looks super smooth, and they’re able to animate swooshing camera angles spinning around the characters showing scenery of 10,000 tiny minute details. Honestly though, some simpler designs work better for parable like stories, or something like this that allows you to focus on the verbal story.
Not everything is about race though man, it’s not the only dimension to focus on in life.

Can you shut your stupid ass up? It’s not your damn business. All you see in an outside world is hate and race war, but you come here, to a video remembering someone else father on a same hateful bullshit. FOH

@Peter Pen So listening to someones story about their father, enjoying it and saying that it’s idiotic that people would dislike this and the fact I couldn’t imagine someone disliking this story without it being race related is just some awful bigoted idea...... despite the fact it’s the opposite way around.
Also, I’m not the one bringing up race wars and saying people are being hateful when there not, now maybe you can’t read because you’re at a second grade reading level but still my comment isn’t hard to understand without throwing a hissy fit.

    • @saggindrawkcab5344
      @saggindrawkcab5344 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Neo DC Yes I’m a racist...... despite the fact I’m black myself, and it wouldn’t make sense for me to hate another black man specifically because he’s black........ idk maybe you’re just a sheltered racist who can’t stand a black man having a positive opinion about another black man.

This reminds me of my dad he always comes home after 12 hours of work and he goes to sleep right as he comes home and these videos actually tell me why he talks to me so much because he never learned how to be a man because his father left his family not sure why and he ended up going down the wrong path but after his divorce with his previous wife he turned it around he worked harder longer. For his new family and people tell lies and steal from him due to his skin color and his old tired face and his eye color but he is a great man when he was a boy he tinkered with electrical trains , planes , etc and God helped him push through and he supports his family pays the rent , bought the food and clothed us and I so proud that he is my father and he is the best father anyone could have in this GALAXY but God is the best father in the whole universe

this video litterally hit me in the chest with being relatable and heart felt. my farther is an dallas dart mechanic and work almost 20 something year of his life trying too support my family. I always tell him "if he need help, I will get an job" but he keep refusing and tell me to go to collage. To get an easy life an a good job. now im nineteen and just recently started community collage, hoping to give my farther in the future, something for all the things he habe too put for supporting me and my siblings.

I knew my heartstrings wern't made for this. Spent probably half an hour pacing my house reflecting on my life and my dad off this story. I'm grateful he's still alive, and I have to brace myself knowing it won't always be true. I can't say I'm ready, but I hope I will be. I hope one day I get to tell his story too.
I hope I get to talk about being little, speeding down texan backroads in that old silver chevy with his punk tunes on the casette player. He knew the verses, and I waited so giddy to shout the chorus because it's the only part I could remember. He's wise and well read, and we talk for long evenings about Dostoevsky, Vonnegut, and Kirkegard, but also strong and sturdy. He's funny enough to make silly refrences to bad 80s movies no one has ever heard of, and yet caring enough to surprise you with a gift even you didn't know you needed.
And most of all, I have never known a man that walks so calmly above it all. I've watched his marriage break, and I've watched his world fall down around him. Even at the peak of his hell, his only worry was for the example it would set for my siblings and me. In any trouble, any fear, any danger, he's the first to calmly figure what's the most good and happiness we can do with what we got. He truly thinks we're all loved, that all of life is a gift, and that to be joyful is our responsibility.
I feel bad for the world that won't ever get to know my dad as I do. That of all the lives that I could have lived, I get to bare witness to his.
I am the son of a joyous and good man.
I could die in a car accident tomorrow and it wouldn't change a thing. The world could end, you could take everything, you could burn it all down. It wouldn't matter.
I have known a good, loving, joyous life, in no small part thanks to him.
My last breath will be rejoicing, just like every previous one.
    Love you, Dad.

Dads are the best. I lost mine when i was 14, and i would wish i would've had him for a little longer. He was the best person i knew :) He had many flaws, and for years he couldn't show real affection for me and my brother. Later on, i asked my mother why dad was like he was, and why after their divorce, he had become such a good dad. Appearently he had never been given fatherly love, and was very shy of conflicts, but when he was left with me and my brother he turned around and became the best!
