I’m not hating on Carrie either, I saw her on stage in Heathers back in the day and have loved her since then, but you’re not understanding. She’s been able to break through and play leading roles in Les Mis, Heathers and so many other productions. She’s not plus sized, she’s just not industry standard size. That goes for TV, film and theatre and it’s a crazy shame. But the point that you’re missing, I imagine because you’re not fat or plus size so have the privilege of not feeling the pain of it... is that there are so few interesting, fully-realised central roles for fat women. There are THOUSANDS of stunningly talented, actually fat women out there with no work to do, because the roles don’t exist. Penelope Featherington, in the book and series, is a fat woman. It’s central to her character and experience of the world. It would be one of the FIVE great parts for fat women in musical theatre. So perhaps, instead of denigrating fat people’s experiences and speaking over us, you can listen and learn, and stop trying to take things away from us.
