    Contractor Van Werven of Oldebroek , The Netherlands seen busy with deep ploughing in the Flevopolder, using a Fendt 936 vario and a Panter deep plough. The top layer of clay soil is ploughed under and the lighter sand and peat soil is brought to the surface to make the land more suitable for other crops and easier to work on.
    Thanks for watching!

    Thanks Brett Carter.
    I am well versed in the Heavy Road building, and Demolition world, but I am quite intruged by the Farming world. I do find the equipment, and amount of hard work quite intresting, considering how much the world depends on the food these people grow for us to eat. 😎

      Lakey Farms Idaho without deep plowing every 5 years there is no soil structure to begin with in this part of the Netherlands. There’s more to the world than Idaho burger boy. This land was reclaimed from the ocean and demands special treatment.

      +Theblckganja 799 Im so glad you said that! Because thats a Deutz engine! Not AGCO Power or Sisu Power (Also fukking AGCO) , but real pure Deutz. The bad thing is that its the older 7.1 liter base engine, not the 7.8 litre used in Deutz Fahr 9340 which is comparable to this Fendt in size.
      Always nice when AGCO and Renault (Claas) fans worship the Deutz engines and usually dont even know it is a Deutz. Esp the Renault/Claas boys should remember that without Deutz their favourite tractors would never have made it to the place they enjoy today.

      @bill slayton And root as well as riot. The reason they do this is to bring better, mor workable soil up as well as bury salt. Corn actually roots sideways as much as down. But the main crops you will see there will be potatoes, sugar beet, onions, carrots, some cereals.

    I grew up on a farm in the 60' and early 70's and we used Massy, John Deere and a Ford tractor. Personally I think by just watching videos that the Fendt tractor is an excellent tractor. It was and still is not available in South Africa. Would loved to be behind the steering of a Fendt tractor. Regards.

      So when a second tractor is added for traction, it wont pull on the front wheights/front lift.
      It will pull on the rear hitch/plough which is stonger and more efficient.
      The front hitch isn't designed to take this amount of stress.

      The chain is there for whenever they need to add another tractor on the front. That tractor then pulls this one via that chain so it does not pull the tractor apart. They learned that the hard way.

    • @henningquast8456
      @henningquast8456 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Problem is: On this soil there hasn’t been any humus to begin with. Since it was taken from the ocean only a couple hundred years ago (like 100-200 I believe) the top soil is very heavy clay soil which is incredibly hard to farm and grow something in. Without deep plowing these field would be impossible to grow anything in. If they wouldn’t have to do this, they wouldn’t because this incredible expensive. What you are talking about is true, just not adaptable for every type of soil.

  • @nigelford6777
    @nigelford6777 8 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    Well, I've looked at loads of answers as to why this is done and no-one has mentioned that as ex-seabed this polder land soil contains salt and tjhis apparently rises to the surface over time and becomes toxic to crops so is ploughed down "out of the way" every few years.
    As an ex-farmer with many Dutch agriculturalist friends I am told this is the main reason. Similarly here in south-east England some potatoe growers are having to cease doing so as their irrigation water has become too salty drawing from gravel pit reservoirs very close to the sea.

    I've made a lot of comments aggravating caseih fans, but I would love to drive a Fendt. They don't have any where I've farmed. They look like a great machine.

    Some really deep plowing, why so deep. Looks like all the good topsoil is being turned under. Really cool anyways.Hallo, leuke video. Landbouw is echt interessant.

      Are we watching the same video? Do you see the organic soil being turned up? The end result is fantastic what a great soil to farm on.

    So I'm curious if it produces a better yield to turn the soil as this deep plower is doing or merely break up the soil deep down as a Subsoil Ripper does?

      +Joseph Abraham Depends on the place and the crop. In my land its only rocks and even the bedrock itself at that depth.

    And second dumb questions. What’s the purpose of the chain running beneath the tractor?

    What's the reason for plowing so deep I grew up and worked on a dairy farm and we never plowed that deep?

    • @arthurmiller9434

      sam aikens: It looks like this video was filmed in the Netherlands or somewhere in that part of the world. They must routinely deep plow there due to soil conditions; not necessarily compaction of the soil, but salt content or something similar. Sorry, wish I knew more about the particulars.
