When my son was in the Army he was assigned to a tank retriever crew. I went down for his graduation. They did a demo. The tank was in up to the turret. Two guys dragged that heavy cable out and had to dive down into the mud to hook up. Each team got yo have a go. Was neat to watch.

The more you spin , the deeper you go. The tractor then is jacked up on it's under body. . Saturated mud is a nightmare for any farm tractor pulling any tremendous weight from behind. Lower the revs, slower the wheels , the more you are helping the vehicle. ( Todays tractors are far to big, heavy, clumsy, can't even go through lanes, roads even gateways. ). Deep mud, snow, ice, you name it, never ever asked for a tractor pull from another tractor.

These videos just make me hella anxious. All it takes is a little too much force on a chain and it'll snap and whip in the opposite direction, going through anything in its path, including windshields and people.

I can never understand why many farms that have a ton of large equipment but no heavy duty winch.
It is much safer to have a winch so you can make a slow controlled pull. Jerking on chains/straps/wires puts a much higher load on the tow line, making it much more likely to break.
Winching also allows you to reduce the amount of tearing up the ground is done by the rescue vehicle.
You can take advantage of pulley's to gain massive force multipliers. If you put the line through a block and back to the rescue vehicle you have now doubled the amount of force at the cost of pulling in twice as much of the line. If you take that line through another block and back you now have 3x the force from the winch.

Old man asked me to dig a ditch through a field because his tractor would get stuck in the soft ground. I told him to wait 2 months when the ground had dried and I would do it then.
A week later he hired someone to dig the ditch. The man had his tractor stuck three pick-up trucks, a small bulldozer and a small and mid sized trackhoe suck in the ground out there.
They made a huge mess only dug 1/3 of the planned drainage ditch and all of their equipment was mudbogged in black mud.
I drove by but never stopped to chat. It was a month before they had the last piece of equipment free, the bulldozer.

We have several rough bits on our farm where the stupid vechile drivers have made a mess, and even after 10 plus years the ruts are still there. Need to buy a few truck loads of soil to fill them in when its dry.

Getting that 4-tracked Case stuck had to be pretty dumb. It takes a lot to do it.
Not to mention all the abuse the machine takes getting pulled out. Watch the hydraulic line blow at about 7:35.
What were they doing on the swampy fields in the first place!? It should've been pretty damn obvious that they were gonna get stuck!

at 2:33 when they pulligng the third tractor out the muddy field, it was extremely unwise to stand so close to a hawser that thin and that long. If it had parted and snapped back it would cut you in half in you are in the way. Make sure you are out the way when near hawsers under tension!

Watch the video again. It looks like the green tractor video was played in reverse. It's way too clean for it just coming up out of the mud. I think they lowered in the mud. Perhaps for kicks.
