- Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on September 21, 2024. He's important in a sense that he's the only besides Amad who keeps the ball in the area. Without them it's just longballs to the area and see what happens like the last 20 minutes

He looked tired at the end, and he has never in his career been a crosser of the ball, but I agree, he was excellent today, i just feel with the size of Zirkzee and Hojlund that a ctossing wing back would have been handy, AWB is a terrible crosser of a football, but he has better completion stats by a mile than Mazroui, Mazroui offers so much more though in the build up, he was one of our best today for sure

At first against Southampton Ste was angry because he wasn't scoring his chances, but now he can see the other qualities JZ brings to the team.
It doesn't make sense that we have a glaring coaching problem. Yet, each week, United TH-cam will pick one player and subject them to emotional attack. By the time we wake up, Ten Hag would have completely damaged the team we all love.

Was a joy to watch for most of the 2nd half too, just the last 15-20 minutes was carnage, subs didn't play their part, Bruno probably should have come off.
Yep, seems to be a dead set improvement in the coaching and technical ability now too, ETH is now on the pitch and has decent assistants compared to say Fletcher and Maclaren - lads will improve, just young and inexperienced

Liverpool result was rough but I think the team never really recovered from the mistakes; it wasn’t the pounding the press tried to make out it was; there was just a really rough 20min period when heads dipped. Aside from that, we’ve looked the better team in every game. Chances being made left right and centre and the defence is looking much better. We just need to stick the ball in the net. But it’s all very reminiscent of say Arteta year 3 or going back Fergie Yr 4/5 where you can see that implemented tactics/signings/philosophy etc is starting to come together.
Tough start to the league but I still believe in the project - would be absolutely mad to tear it up right now unless we just fall off a cliff.

De Ligt has really surprised me, pretty damn hard to hit the EPL running like he has, i dont have my heart in my mouth everytime a central defender has the ball now, even though he screwed up for hollans, he looks solid, but I wonder how that inside knee ligament of his is going?

@@zeeone4492 Yea, you know played attractive football, had the opposition in their own half for most of the game, 70% possession, hit the bar twice 3 clear cut chances, our defence was almost on the halfway line for 60% of the match, we dribbled through the low block with ease and one touch football was glorious in some patches. We shipped 4 goals last season (only 6 months ago or so) in this fixture. Chances, including from set pieces, are being created. Finishing letting us down. Frustrating, but clear progress.

Needed to score that chance thou. It's becoming a theme with Zirkzee. Absolute baller but he's an awful goalscorer imo. Can see Zirkzee being a elite 10 imo.

@@gregoryconran Not sure I'd categorise a 23 year old Zirkzee as young in terms of football mate. I think 9 times out of 10 you can tell if a striker will be a great goalscorer before they turn 23. Looking at Zirkzee goal returns in his career for other clubs theres nothing to suggest that he ever will be a great goalscorer.
ETH taking off both Amad and Zirkzee. We lost our combination play ability once they went off and reverted back to moments FC instead of the good build up play we saw up until that point
Exactly. Eriksen too was quality, taking him off was a mistake.
I think he could have taken off one, but not both. Especially with how bad Bruno was in the second half. We lost all creativity/playmaking once those two left the pitch.

We should try it in Carabao cup to see if it results. Zirkzee and Amad are the only ones who take care, possess the ball and link up in the area, but we need to finish the chances and that's why Hojland should play.

Very positive in the 1st half but the subs were shocking, how Bruno finished the game was beyond me.
Bruno, Erikson, Zirkzee and Amad are our creative players who started.

Hojlund needs chances to be created for him, so why do we take off the 3 creative players who are playing well, and keep the one who isn't on the pitch!!! And why bother bringing on Hojlund in that setting, too.

You’re a clown, couldn’t score last year and won’t this year. It’s a typical go to to point at the guy on the bench as the solution. Our wingers are horrible. The defence was the only significant improvement and the rest is marginal. The team is improving and as windows go by, the mid and attack will get sorted. Weren’t people complaining about Zirkzee missing chances not long ago, ffs.

It's like he's in competition with himself to see how many times he can give the ball away. Whether it's a clumsy touch, unaware of what's around him, decision making, weight of pass. Then when one of those passes actually hits the target people will be saying "stop the agenda! See Bruno is class 😍. Look at the stats, he creates more chances than anyone in the team. He's so important, we create nothing without him". Well if he stopped losing the ball every time it came near him maybe someone else could have a chance of doing something.

Zirkzee plays in the "hole" and its not like Bruno ever stays in the "hole" anyhow... but if he did Zirkzee and him would clash... so how do you even accommodate Bruno ???? maybe with an advanced Hojlund, a holding Ugarte and Mainoo staying centrally - but personally Eriksen has been out best of late

People forget that he has never connected the midfield and attack like other 10s in the prem cos his touch is not just that good and he doesn't do well in tight spaces. He thrives in a counter attacking team where he doesn't have to think much and can rely on instincts. He can't play this system and needs to be benched. Zirkzee and Mount offers more to the team in this new system.

We have played so much better with bruno being forced to one side of the pitch, Eriksen does not have the legs, but at least he stays central, he doesnt need the legs as he wont lose the ball when out of position, Bruno wears himself out every game and then his passes go to poo, I bet when you say "playing like a kid" you mean, he chases the ball everywhere and every pass is a hollywood pass?
Martinez had no one moving at the end of the game, the lads were knackered, we had atktacked for a long time and pressed well, there was zero movement in front of him
@@SentientTeapot2444 thats a good pick up mate, he was coming into midfield a lot, and blocking that sharp pass that martinez usually makes, but there was Zero movement at the end of the game, the team was exhausted from pressing.
That was a really good performance. We slacked off at the end and there wasn’t any impotence in the last 10min. But, at least we didn’t lose. Last year we lose that match.

Eriksen is class on the ball, looks after it well, plays the right pass more often than not... Bruno could take a lesson from that part of his game

yeah he was doing my head in today, late in the game Rasford was open on the left multiple times, but he kept the ball too long and then passes to De Ligt. Frustrated.
@@billiecook97 For real, it was so frustrating. He done it the whole game but it was even worse those final minutes. It’s like he’d wait for Rashford/garnacho to drop back cause he’s scared to give the longer pass. And when they drop, the one on one would be gone 🤦🏽♂️.
United need to play a front 2 of zirkzee and hojland
That's the thing, we have fixed multiple issues, but once opposition starts sitting tight, we need to start giving our team time to keep repeating the attacking patterns, let them come off these games doing it again and again, because that is how they will get comfortable maintaining possession and start building more chemistry to open teams up, the chance conversion drops when teams start controlling games, and conversion increases as the team keeps rotating the ball and gets used to each other's slight adjustments in passing patterns when it's not an open transition with space. Now the next step will be improving automations, getting more positional rotation in attacking situation while holding the ball to open gaps, and the finishing will improve only by keep doing it. Let them keep doing it, transition attackers need to learn patience and staying alert when the opposition is lulled while rotating the ball, and it comes with repetition.

watching mazraoui is such a joy it felt like he won every 1v1 and was very involved in the attacking play.
Højlund and zirkzee together as an attacking duo is something i wish to see! i think they compliment eachother pretty well. sadly football isn't played with 2 strikers anymore :c
Hate to say it but Bruno was bad today. Amad, Mainoo, Onana, De Ligt, Mazraoui were all excellent but our team performance overall was so good. Best first half of football I've ever seen us play under Ten Hag.

Bruno's "guaranteed" start in the Team really needs proper scrutiny. Zirkzee as #10 might just be the Key. He killed most of our attacks even before it started with useless and pointless touches. Ten Hag's in game management is also terrible! He should have noted despite the dominance, the Trend of so many backward passes, slow movements and low intensity throughout the entire game. It should have been mount finishing that game in place of Bruno. Days like this when BRUNO IS CRAP, he does more HARM than GOOD!
Nothing but facts here. I've echoed the same sentiments. There should be no automatic starters in this squad. We actually have a few options.
Bruno's display today was nothing new to me personally however the manager keeping him on and taking Zirkzee of was criminal. Those sort of bias substitutions will lose this manager his job.
@@kingtchala6832 we had no direct challenger to Bruno in the past, now every single role has direct competition, Zirkzee can play Bruno's role, and if you challenge yourself and thinjk about it, every position has a decent challenger now.. thats exactly what we have needed

@@Dro9291 The difference now is we have a spine in De Ligt, Eriksen, Mainoo, Ugarte and Zirkzee, that stay in the shape and can retain possession, its now obvious to see Bruno's flaws as they really stand out now because the rest of the team is keeping the ball
A positive is that we have only had one bad game in the Prem this season - the Liverpool game. Even though we lost against Brighton, we played pretty well for much of that game.

The substitution of Diallo was the wrong move because what we needed at that moment was a creator which Diallo was executing perfectly in that game. Garnacho was the one that should have left the game. Immediately Diallo left , our creativity dried up

Got to be beating teams like Palace if Man United want to be getting to top 4. Not clinical enough. Rashford and Hojlund were both poor and offered very little when they came on.
Palace tightened up in the second half and the possession Man United held was all in front of them.

Ste made some good points near the end. Bruno and Ugarte as a double 6 pivot is such a good shout. Zirkzee and Hojlund together upfront is also simulating my imagination. The skillsets just mesh together really well.
It was a pleasure watching United today, yes its a draw, but I haven't seen us dominate or create this many chances in a long time. The goals will come, so Good to finally enjoy watching my team again. We are heading in the right direction.
You're right, Ste ... Ten Hag should play Zirkzee & Hojlund together, in expense of dropping Bruno. If forcing playing Bruno, and as you said with Ugarte, high chance we're losing midfield battle. As good as Ugarte that people projecting he is, cover big spaces while Bruno playing near opposition box ... that's mad.
Answer Bruno plays like an underdeveloped player from the academy. It hard to believe that is a seasoned 30year old veteran. The guy just doesn't think, just plays off pure instinct like a teenager in the playground. We can't have a cohesive midfield with that kind of player. I'm sure the players on the pitch are getting tired of him now cos he just makes them run chasing the ball after giving the ball so much.

He's a 10 playing as an 8. It's what separates KdB and Odegaard from him, they have the intelligence to run a midfield, not just create chances.
If Mount can stay fit he'll start over him eventually. Links play and presses like a machine. Zirkzee will do the playmaking.

We've got ballers in Zirkzee Amad and Eriksen for sure, ball retention is key with them around
Utd are starting to play the way i wanted last season, I can't fault them today except a goal obv. Onana I wanted to back for ages but went off him at the start of this season, I didn't think he could be clutch enough but that double save was fire and his overall performance was very encouraging.
I'll be happy to watch that football all season.
Finally we got rid of our terrible coaching staff - maclaren had failed at 10 different clubs, never lasted more than 2 seasons, McCarthy was hiorrible, Rashford did not improve because of him, he learned from CR7, and Fletcher, OMG>... why am I saying this... ferguson brought back a 60yr old GK coach who used to coach his keepers back in the day.. DDG went backwards... Onana went backwards under this coach. but now they have the Ducth GK coach - Onana wont ever be DDG but he will improve -m that save today is from training on the ground, save and up again... decent raining and world class save

Some of us have beem saying it for a while, others are just finally realising. Its getting to the point where he's almost playing against us. Too many scenarios break down with him and the opposition are onto us.
He gives away the ball for free, under zero pressure, everywhere on the pitch. Its just not good enough. The balance is not there. His positives are not outweighing his negatives. This is a team/squad game - he is just another memeber of the squad and should be subbed/rotated however you want to put it.
He hasnt gotten worse, its just we now have cntral players who keep the ball, eriksen, mainoo, ugarte etc.. its making his flaws more obvious, but with him oiut wide there are no gaping holes centrally anymore... now .. Mainoo and erkisen are not athletes.. so there will be gaps, but we dont lose the ball as much and that makes it obvious when bruno does
Bruno needs to take his game to the next level... by learning sometimes, the easy pass is the right option. So many times he takes on Hollywood passes or tries stupid flicks. So frustrating at times.
Bruno shocking again. He’s so so wasteful. It’s infuriating at times. We played pretty well too which is a shame.

Glasner reacted very well in the second half while ETH didn't know how to counter him. Taking Zirksee off was a blunder.
Hojlund came on, his first touch was a trampoline touch. 0 movement and linkup so we just resorted to hoofball to him running the channels. He will never be good enough for the style we want because his technical floor is so low. Just go watch how Bruno played with Zirkzee vs Hojlund.
Can we stop pushing the myth that he's good enough for this club.

Why does Henderson have to suddenly pull out a Balon D'or performance, when playing against us? Literally every opportunity, he managed to get a finger or foot to block the shot. Think Bruno should've come off, when Amad and Eriksen went off.

Eriksen, Amad, and Zirkzee coming off for Rashford, Højlund, and Ugarte made sense on paper, but we ended up with a team better suited to counter attacking. Unfortunately Palace were already set in defence and not leaving spaces. The players that went off were pulling our team up the pitch and retaining dominance.
Ok Zirkzee scored when he came off the bench. Since he has been starting he hasn't had the same impact. He is a good player but I think there's a way we can utilize him better. If we still had Martial he will score loads. I can already see their linkup being fire 🔥🔥.
We are creating chances now but the truth is if Marcus is not starting we don't have enough goalscorers in this forward line.
I love the control we have in games and consistency in tactics can only help us. We will win more than we lose.
Lastly, Garnacho is an impact sub. Full stop.. Onana has shown his quality now. Amad helps us with ball retention and a good structure but he needs to start adding goals to his game.

De Ligt has made a huge improvement to our defence, the line seems higher, more compact, midfielders getting forward without there being gaping holes behind all game. Not perfect yet but can definitely see what we’re trying to do now
Zirkzee, Amad and Erikson are ballers who understand how to create things with control. The moment we took those three off we lost all momentum. ETH needs to learn you can't just have runners - quality technical players need to stay on. Ste saying substitutions made sense is just lazy commentary mate.

Zirkzee is a decent link up player and gives us that element to our game our other forwards don't but he isn't a prolific goalscorer. His stats from Italy told us as much.

The only thing frustrating other than all the missed chances was that the CB’s kept the ball too long and were wasteful when eventually trying to pass it out.

The game changed today and became a lot more even as soon as Zirksee came off. The first half was some of the best football we’ve played under ETH but sadly straight after the game all the pundits, opposition fans and United “fans” will just want to talk about how nothing has changed and it’s the same old United.
Bruno should be sub for Ugarte. Eriksen was good. Garnacho good as start and as sub. Always give impact. He always run to get ball. He had most shooting on target yesterday compare to other attacking players.
Zirkzee as a 10 behind Højlund would be something to try. With Bruno and Ugarte as an 8 and a 6

Ste you couldn’t be more wrong about Rashford vs Garnacho. Garna at least either runs at the full back and forces a reaction or he looks to interplay with his teammates. Rashford just holds the ball, waits for his full back to set himself and passes to Onana.
We have definitely improved this season. I feel the 5 new players purchased this year, are much much better than purchases/choices of previous 2-3 years. The improvements, atleast most of it, we see this season could be because of these new additions & not much of better coaching/planning of ETH.

There have been two crucial missed signings from United that we are still paying today for. Missing Modric (he was the midfielder that we needed until now) and missing Kane. With Kane on the pitch yesterday at Palace we end the game 3-0.
Bruno deserve criticism today.... The team did well overall. We are beginning to see performances, soon we will see results.
Finishing let us down but the control we had in the game this time around was miles better than last time. That looked like real progress. On to the next. Ten Hag will cook something and we will be back.

MU just lacked quality in front of the goal, but they did create a lot of chances. It's better to focus on the positives than the negatives. The team is improving, and the latest signings are all a success so far.
Think about the best spell we had under ten hag - that january to march 2023 period; beating city and barca etc. Weghorst started in the 10 at the Nou Camp and we all had our jaws on the floor but it worked. Big similarities betweem his role then and zirkzees role now
I, probably like many others, thought Zirkzee should have stayed on to link up with Holjund, I honestly think there is a partnership there that could terrify defences. Everyone is in love with ‘the modern game’ but there might be somthing to be said about the destructive power of an in tune center forward partnership.
