Tesoro Vaquero vs MineLab ETrac - Part 2 Dime @ 6" '53Silver

  • Compared my ETrac to Vaquero on a dime, 6" down. I set ETrac and Vaquero to highest sens without chatter. My standard "park settings" on my Vaquero get me 7 - 8 inches on coins.

    I've tried so many other makes, but Tesoros are the most solid, easy to use and productive detectors I've ever used. Their Customer Service is outstanding!

    Having owned both the machines, which are both *excellent* I might add, the one scenario where the Vaquero falls short is in trashy, cellar hole type sites. Having a visual target ID and multiple tones in this kind of environment presents a distinct advantage to the Tesoro. I have also hunted side by side with my AT Pro and another user with their Cibola, and I definitely had the better day and dug less trash. That being said, enter a low trash, open field/open woods type of scenario and the Tesoro properly tuned will compete with the best of them, no question at all. One other thing to note here - the Tesoro is a very lightweight machine that you can swing all day, whereas the Etrac is heavy in comparison and requires (at least for me) some kind of strap to help carry the weight for long hunts. There are pros and cons to every machine... and of course if you have the luxury of owning multiple machines, it is a great to be able to use a different detector depending on the type of site you are hunting. My 2 cents...

    @DetectorOCD- Thanks for the feedback, and great to hear you‘re picking one up. I had an F75, nice md, but man was it noisy! This “V” is the most stable md I own, and the disc on the “V” blows my MXT out of the water. I’ll put my “V” up against any md out there, at any price point. I don’t own any of their water units yet, maybe next summer I’ll check one out. Good hunting.

    Exactly! Dollar for dollar it doesn't get much better then a Vaquero!

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    A couple reasons. Frequncy is not as big a factor as many think. The CIbola is basically a Vaquero without GB, but, you can adjust the GB with the Cibola, internally, so it would make an excellent back-up unit. In the end however I bought a Compadre, which is another excellent Tesoro detector. I still believe the Vaquero is the best detector on the market today. It will find it all!

    You don't know how fast I clicked this vid when I saw it was from you, doing more about the Vaquero lol. I am ordering mine next month! I sold my F5 and can't WAIT to get the Vaq. MORE MORE we want MORE vaquero vids! LOL. Hey, how about a Tiger shark vid? :)

    @NJDartman - Thanks for the kind words. I bought my ”V” last November and started using it 95% of the time I went out. It would be cool if someone would put together some videos on the Golden uMax. I was thinking about getting a Cibola and Golden at some point. By the way the shape and sound of the tone is a bit different for coins than trash. Most trash will almost sound distorted or rough on the edges.
    Thanks again and good hunting!
    Mike

    As a Tesoro Dealer, I am aware of the intternal adjustment of the Cibola and I do tweak them using a certain soil sample to improve the quality and repeatability of a nickel I have at 10". I am in agreement for the Value, the Vaquero is the BEST one currently in the Tesoro Stable but the Tejon is their Power House although a bit more noisy on Iron due to the frequency response. Overall, I like 12Khz for Park Hunting and the Compadre and Tiger Shark are set to that Freq. Good Video.

    The ACE 250 is very good md. I had both the 250 and 350 for a while. For most situations, parks, tot lots, etc., the 250 is just fine. Remember most targets will be with 5" or so. The display will give you an excellent way to get familiar with disc, notch, etc. They also make a great back-up.

  • @nathkrul
    @nathkrul 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I also had both of these detectors and also found the Vaquero to be deeper and more sensitive than my Etrac, in the end I sold the Etrac on, just a shame I shelled out all that money on the Etrac.
    But you live an learn, a lot of money does not necessarily buy you a better detector, it may get you more bells and whistles, but Its experience that counts. :)

    Vaquero is fantastic...I often pick signals so deep that I have to give up to dig 'em!

  • @TheJohnmusk
    @TheJohnmusk 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The strength of the E-trac is it's ability to pick out non-ferrous targets sitting amongst the iron, it's not just about depth. Depth has more to do with frequency. Take both detectors to an area with a lot of trash and see which one performs better.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most often I'll use a towel (a tray would be too bulky) there are times I don't, either way, I always leave my dig sites as I find them. Thanks for the comment.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Vaquero or Outlaw are both excellent detectors, with the edge to the Outlaw for it's three coil package and discrimination circuit.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Daedalu - Thanks. I'm looking to pick up a Cibola. Same as the Vaquero but does not have ground balancing. I hear the Silver uMax is another great MD.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @micmoable Ground balancing the "V" is a breeze. Once you have it set, you shouldn’t have to move it but maybe a half turn one way or the other in another area. A couple things will reduce finds. One, is coil overlap but with your degree of experience, I’m sure you are overlapping the 50% min. The other is simple. With tone ID and a VDI indicator, he’ll stand a better chance of Id’ing a good target in the more trashy area’s.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It actually does end, and although it continues to turn. If you turn it 4 turns, then go back about 2 turns, you should be about in the middle. You may need to play for a minute or two but ondce you have it set, you should not have to move it more then 1/2 to 3/4 in most situations. Thanks for the comment.

    The Sov I have works great any place on the beach, that was supposedly the calling card of the Sovereign, it works on land or on a salt beach. The only reason i want to upgrade is because it seems to deal with electrical interference poorly, and no target ID of course.

  • @Lucky2bGorgeous
    @Lucky2bGorgeous 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would recommend the Tejon instead of the Cibola. Why would you consider the same frequency machine without a ground balance. The Tejon will give you stronger depth on coins and gold jewelry with Twin Discriminators and a ground balance control.

  • @metaljackalope1801

    Most machines will pick up stuff the etrac will. to me the real difference is how you can accurately tell the difference between different items. Bottle caps, Screw caps and what not are the perfect example. I have used a lot of machines but none come close in this department, As well as the target ID deep. Yes the Tesoro and others will give a tone, But the etrac gives a tone and a very accurate VDI that most do not at depth. If saves me so much time while hunting parks and what not. Not knocking the Tesoro one bit.. Just the real benefits of the etrac are in accurate Deep ID, Not just talking about sound.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Etrac is an excellnt detector, but, for the money it better be. I think the "V" can run with any detector on the market, and is still one of the best values on the market. The Outlaw runs a very close second if not as good a value as the "V".

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually no. They are not designed to stop. When you turn the pot past the 3 3/4 turns, it has a very slight drag. This is how it was intended to work.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MickTwin - Hey - The Cibola would be for a backup but it's a very good detector on its own, and my grandson could use it. I was also thinking about the SIlver umax as well. I'd like to review both Cibola and Silver at some point, seeing what I see with the "V" I'm betteing their both very good. Like I mentioned to someone else, my MXT and ETrac have been colleting a lot of dust this past year.
    Peace - Mike

    I agree with you. Minelab makes good machines but their prices have become customer unfriendly if you ask me. I used a Sov XS for years but my next machine will be value-oriented. I like the Teknetics stuff at the moment.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheJohnmusk - Great point. Here's a link to a video where I tested the recovery speed / disc ability of the Vaquero. As I mention above the ETrac is an excellent md. So many of us think, if we spend more. we'll find more. Thats just not the case. I had the opportunity to extensively test all the top end md's over the past 2 years and found the Vaquero to be as good, and in some area's of performance better, then high priced detectors. And remember the "V" is $460, the Etrac, $1500.

    • @heavysound69
      @heavysound69 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Czahur that's the problem with people. They think if they spend more on a detector they will find more. I've found that to be false.

    I really enjoy your videos. I just bought my wife a Whites mxt but I still my Tesoro Eldorado. I love it with the 4 in coil but how do you figure the depth? Pin pointing is dead on and so is the discrimination. I guess the Vaquero replaced the Eldorado but I still like it. Keep the videos commmmmmmming!

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @mjcz5853 I tested both in areas where the trash/treasure ratio was better then 50/50 and not as congested, and found no difference in quantity of good targets found. The Etrac and other higher end Minelabs are great MD’s. When you’re paying $1000 to $1500 for a detector, it better be good.

    I have a whites MX, and though I feel the Whites is a good machine, I can do just as good with my Vaq. I become dependant on that MX screen and tend to ignore targets. There is also a significant difference in weight. The Vaq is much lighter than the MX

    Any detector with a good Disc circuit will do exactly that and you don't need to spend $1500. Once you understand how a disc circuit works, and the conductivity scale pick up a Compadre or a Vaquero or any other lower price detector and check them out. You'll be surprised at what they can do. Check out my video on just how a Vaquero deals with Disc'ing out iron and still being able to hit a good target.

Especially on my detector is detech ultimate 13

    Tesoros are second to none on their target response. Really don't need the lying meters. For more information on how to use your Tesoro Correctly, visit Big Valley Metal Detectors web site, #1 source of information to enable you to be successful. Larry Manger is also an expert on the Minelabs and can cite the Advantages and Disadvantages of both platforms.

      anyone can turn their meter-detectors into a Tesoro: simply turn off tone ID and put tape on the screen....bingo! Its a Tesoro!

      How you Tesoro fanboys can keep drinking the koolaid is a mystery to everyone. Why settle for 35 year old technology. Tesoro is way behind the times in research and development. The pinpointing and depth reading is spot on with my detectors. Here are some cons with Tesoros: manual ground balance on some high end models. Pinpointing sucks. No depth reading. No VDI numbers (except for their 2 screen models). Most models use 1 9V battery which is only good for 10 hours. The Tesoro beeps are very whiney and annoying. They name their detectors that are hard to pronounce (Whats up with Spanish?)

    • @Lucky2bGorgeous
      @Lucky2bGorgeous 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jimmy Page Fan Boy? Jimmy Page, your the one drinking the Kool Aide, Tesoro Circuits have BIG Advantages over their Metered Competition, not to mention they were the first to employ Surface Mount Tehniology and the Round Sound versus digital tones which tell you nothing about the quality of the metals....Tesoro is #1 when it comes to language. Wish Michael would compare the aforementioned two models on the real targets: GOLD is the real test as it is more difficult for the average Minelab and many other detectors to detect, so the untrained person will WALK over those targets.
      Good Job on the Video Michael!!!!!!

    • @mjcz5853
      @mjcz5853  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jimmy Page
      Jimmy - My video is not meant to disparage the Etrac. The truth and fact is the Tesoro Vaquero will find everything an Etrac will find. The $1500 price tag does not translate into more finds. I can say this because I own both detectors and have 3 years, side by side, experience on both. I simply want to get the message out that you don’t need to spend this kind of money to realize success. With my Vaquero, I can ID a target, get the depth, size and be digging within 30 seconds, all at 1/3 the weight, and 1/3 the cost. If you’ve never owned a Tesoro, try it. If you don’t like it, you can sell it, no problem.
