- This Outlaw is one nice detector! Ground Balance adjustment is smooth and more refined compared to my Vaquero. Also, the Discriminator is awesome! I found I can Disc out a dime with this detector, and with a little travel left on the knob, can read quarters and those larger silver coins accurately. The Retune button keeps the Outlaw optimized which ensures maximum depth! More to come over the next couple months.
I love the Tesoro products. Yes, they don't have the cool looks but they are super simple, powerful and a lifetime warranty that works.
With my Tesoro LST I find way more gold nuggets than my buddies mainly because it is dead simple to use and it has computerized auto ground tracking that works. When others are screwing with manual GB, I'm digging out gold! Sometimes simple is better.
Really appreciate your videos on the Tesoro products. --- Great presentation, and very knowledgeable. Thanks so much!
Thank you! The Outlaw is one of the best values on the market and one of the best Tesoro's I've used.
Michael Czahur hello! Can you give me a reason to get the outlaw over the vaquero? Or vice verse?
@HarleySeller I thought the same thing and have commented on many times 'til I picked up a little Compadre. The disc circuit and trash separation are among the best. There can be a coin right next to a nail, or pull tab and the Tesoro will sniff it out. I like TID machines too, but Tesoro's definitely have their place. Love their looks, lightweight, speed, lifetime warranty and 'old school' sensibilities. They are among the best machines out there for coinshooting.
Many of the Tesoros use "Silent Search" mode. Which means in the Disc Mode, there is no thresh hold tone until you hit a target. When I first saw this I wasn't sure I'd like it but found it to be better then listening to the constant buzzing of a thresh hold.
Actually I used the DD all summer long. Just as deep as the 8 inch and covers more ground. I found a pair of Mercs wth it in August in the same hole at 6 inches down, which was very cool. The disc was also better then I thought it would be. The Outlaw is one great detector.
Thanks
Mike
I was simply demonstrating the linearity and separation ability of the disc as it compares to other detectors. When you use a detector without a display you sometimes “thumb” the disc knob to ID a target. With most detectors, dimes and quarters are not distinguishable, as well as nickels and pull tabs.
Hi Jim - I have one and it's great! I'm going to get the Compadre with the 8 inch coil when it comes out. It razor sharp and when you hit a good target it lets you know!
Thanks for the comments. The Cortez is an awesome detector. Gotta love Tesoro detectors!
My modded Cibola (which is the same basic unit as the Vaquero) will hit on 22cal slugs at 6' or much more depending on the soil. Larger fishing weights @8-10' or deeper in dry beach sand.
The V or C won't miss any lead.
A multi coil rig would probably not be a great choice for a beginner, but being an all around detector is what the O is about. (my opinion)
I hope to. The shore took a big hit a few months ago and theres a good deal of construction going on up and down the coast so we'll see how it plays out.
You probably don't. The point was to demostrate the resolution of the Outlaws Disc circuit. On a display unit, like an MXT, it tells you if you what coin you might have under the coil. "Thumbing the Disc" allows you to ID the taregt, which means with this detector you can ID the difference between a dime and quarter. Pretty impressive. Any Tesoro will find jewelry or coins. The Golden is great for Parks or Rec areas where taregts are within 6 inches for instance. But they'll all do the job.
Mike,,I just got the bottom dollar Compadre,,cheap but works well so far,,simple compared to my old Whites XLT and super light,,for old farts this is great,,going to give it a try at an old home site from the 1890s,,hope to find something of valuc,,,
It's 2013 every high end detector should have a meter or tid digital vdi scale, aslo a depth scale. I been detecting for 20 years. I have the fisher CZ 5, whites 6000 di pro, and the garrett AT pro. Just my opinion I feel you should have as many target info options as possible. With the AT pro I can notch out anything I want all the way to dollar, If I choose too. The CZ 5 can discriminate a round beaver tail tab and still get small gold rings, that amazes me. The 6000 meter id is spot on.
It may contain aluminum or some alloy. Cool find. I really like finding old artifacts.
If your looking for an all terrain detector, the Outlaw, with its 3 coils and the way it opperates, is tough to beat! The Vaquero is a bit deeper, but both would be just fine for occassional relic hunting. However if I were looking at a true relic md, the Tejon would be the way I'd go.
Once you ID a good target on the Disc scale, it lowers the chance of digging a trash target. The point of demonstrating the dime / quarter separation is just a testament to the resolution of the Disc on the outlaw.
Both clad. Discrimination measures conductivity not size. So a coin dated pre '64 will have a higer silver content and give a slightly higher reading.
Mike
Tesor detectors use "Silent Search / Thresh-hold in Disc Mode. I like it a lot!
No, but like with other Tesoro's you don't need it. I have a Vaquero now for a 3 years and never used the pin-point feature. The beep is so sharp I can pin-point by just sweeping the coil over the target. Once I locate and dig, I'll use my hand-help pin-pointer. With the Outlaw they incuded a Non-Motion All Metal mode with Super Pin-Pointing which is excellent!
I think you just made up my mind for me.
Your videos are awesome. Will you be doing any videos with the Sand Shark? I have a SS and have ordered the Tiger Shark.
I own an MXT and find it to be the best “Display Unit” I’ve ever owned, but, I’m very careful how I use it. Detectors with displays are nice but the only way to uncover 100% of good targets is to dig every hit, and that doesn’t require a high dollar, detector with a comprehensive display.
Does the Outlaw give a double beep on nails like the Vaquero does in nail invested sites?
hey brother, do you know where a nice golden umax could be had?
No. I picked up a Sand Shark and it works great!
Tesoro's seem antiquated to me, with no LCD, no VDI numbers, no depth reading, but yet they are still priced high. I don't know how they sell any units.
Hi Priced? I don't think so. You are getting some serious power with out the visual aid. if you learn the machine, you will dig many good things. VDI talks you out of digging.
Mike, how about you get a Tigershark to test? Man, there are hardly ANY vids out there on it! I had one and sold it before I even used it. Uhg.. One word of wisdom to anyone out there reading this, if you own a tesoro, DONT SELL IT! Thanks and HH
tone ID on the Outlaw
Correction " (inches, obviously)
How come after you ground balanced it and switched back to disc mode your threshold wasn't audible anymore?
Silent search feature of the Outlaw.
Maybe. But despite all the technology, I can say, based on my owning all the high end detectors, that the displays didn't really help improve my finds. Notching out any where in the gold range increases your risk of loosing a gold ring, so that's probably not a good idea unless you're just hunting coins. There's also a good chance of misreading the information on the display which again can cost you a find of a lifetime.
??? why do you want to disc out a dime or a quarter,,,silver & gold is all I want,,coins, jewelry, which Tesoro is the one I want for this?,,thanks, jim
No pinpoint feature on this?
why would you want to disc. out a dime????
Only tesoro
