    Hard to believe Tesoro is gone. Take good care of that machine; perhaps the most underrated detector ever made.

    Thanks for sharing! Tesoro detectors, unlike most other brands of detectors, their depth is not severely diminished when using a high discrimination setting. I would never run my discrimination that high, but this test clearly shows what Tesoro detectors are capable of doing. To top it all off, they're super light and easy to swing. In my opinion, Tesoro makes some of the best detectors on the market today!

    HI great video! I owned one of these and want to get another!!! My Tesoro Vaquero would reach amazing depths. We found stuff so deep we would sometimes almost give up. I used to always use no discrimination on the setting and set the ground balance every so often for different soil types and mineralization within the area also for moisture in the soil. I'd also use the pinpointer (if you set the machine right you won't hear the hum while using the pin pointer but the beauty of this is you could pick up a single staple 14 " down and you would do this by learning the sound when using the red button. A couple other things is yes it's light weight and only takes one 9 volt battery. Take five batteries for the day and you'll have lots of power the whole time. I'd say because it's so sensitive and not too technical it's best used in remote areas where there's not a lot of modern day traffic. I can't wait to get back out there!! Thanks again.

    "Hmmm...I must try some of what you show soon?
    What I did with my Vaquero right off the bat was, I drilled thru the coil wings, lower rod, washer etc and threw away the metal bolt and brass wing nut encased in plastic and replaced ALL with a Minelab plastic nut'n'bolt.
    I've got great results with my Vaquero on a par with machines costing well over a grand!
    Try it...

    Hi
    With this settings can you set the disc to all metal, or as near as possible? How deep that will be?

  •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    what does the threshold knob actually do? I have and old hunk of crap that was made by Bounty Hunter for Tandy Corp (radio shack) ..it has a tune knob to balance the coils , a ground knob to set the ground (both dialed in by use of a meter ) and a discrimination knob ....then a switch for VLF TR1 and TR2 then the meter has a ferrous and non ferrous section and there is 2 indicator lights for the same but no "threshold"...I am interested in getting a Tesoro I don't like the other makes with the led lcd screens auto this and that

    I own a Vaquero and love it. But let me ask.............. are you sure your theory about negative ground balance works universally? Or could it be that it just works in your particular soil? Have you tried it in different ground conditions? I mean no disrespect - but I'd be interested to hear your answer. Thanks! Great video! Bill

    I owned a Minelab 1600 gold detector years ago It was made in 1980 I was working a beach and the girlfriend did the digging we hit a loud object and she dug and dug and dug down to 3 feet where we found an aluminum piece about 3/4 inch size that was a tab from a V8 juice 5 ounce paper cup. It was a 6.4 khz detector... go figure?

    do you think it matters on the soil for your test have you put slaw by the coins to see if it still pulls or hits the coins ... i noticed there are different colors of vaqueros whats up with that are the different colors better i noticed black and your color the purple , im gonna buy one just want to make sure i get the best vaquero possible . i hope to hear a response .... thanks

    awesome video, if you had to choose 2 other less expensive metal detectors around 500.00 or less that gets the DEEPER ITEMS, which ones would you choose, i am buying one this weekend so if you could let me know that would be great! thank you!

    • @scannerguy1968
      @scannerguy1968  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well. 1st would be the Nokta Fors Core. Kellyco has them for 550. Fisher f44 is actually pretty good for the money which is cheaper. And of course the Vaquero. I have the Core and Vaq as my main detectors right now.

    • @arheologiemd9488
      @arheologiemd9488 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scannerguy1968 Is that Nokta deeper than Vaquero? And I am quessing that Vaq with the bigger coil will go deeper(or not).

    • @scannerguy1968
      @scannerguy1968  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arheologie MD If you super tune and run the Vaq slight negative ground balance I think it will hit deeper but even with the stock coil on the Core, the core is deeper if you run the vaq properly ground balanced. I have the pro pack for the core which also has the large coil. With that coil I have yet to see a detector deeper. But there are a lot out there yet to test.

    • @arheologiemd9488
      @arheologiemd9488 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scannerguy1968 The stock coil for the Vaq is 9x8 and the stock coil for the Core is 11.2x7 if I am not wrong, and I saw that the Vaq hit that 12 inch quarter and the Core did not. But I have to be honest: the Core managed better the holes with the nails. Maybe a test with the bigger coils on both machines wold be great.

    • @scannerguy1968
      @scannerguy1968  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arheologie MD Haven't figured out why the vaq hits 12 inches while running the ground balance 1/4 turn negative. Other d3tectors won't work like that from what I've seen. Only issue with that is it is more unstable than running with a proper ground balance. It will chatter quite a bit and move iron up cliser to pull tabs.. When run normal the Core out does it. The vaq might go 9 inches.I love the vaq but when you are coin shooting plan on digging beaver tais and pull tabs more than the Core. There is also a new coil I want to test for the vaq that makes it supposedly go deeper. Once I get it I'll throw a comparison vid up. As far as portability and able to take a beating the vaq can't be beat.

    how long does a target have to be in the ground to make this test accurate?

    • @scannerguy1968
      @scannerguy1968  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1 day to 150 years. You'll get a better reading the longer it is in the ground but I've found it is the type of ground that makes the difference

  • @thejoneshomemovies
    @thejoneshomemovies 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, this isn't working for me as well as your video shows. Even with disc cranked all the way to the right I am getting 'chatter' and phantom beeps. Will simply dialing back the sensitivity fix this? I should add that the location is an old home site, so there is considerable trash

    • @goodolbiker
      @goodolbiker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      go negative like video and if you get falsing just go slightly positive untill it stops. the falsing means you went to far negative.

  • @tooterh51

    Will it pick up civil war relics like it does these coins

    • @thejoneshomemovies
      @thejoneshomemovies 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tooter Hagen Yes, as long as your discrimination is set appropriately. With it turned past max, as it is in the video, it should only detect silver/gold/copper and other goodies. For relics you would want it a notch above iron, or even run 'all metal' mode if you want everything.

    how to Hit quarters at. 12 inches. : I have a tejon and took the stock coil off and put the 8 1/2 rws coil on because the stock coil got dimes 8 inches Max. The 8 1/2 rws went to 10 to 11 inches with approximately 20 percent depth left over pp at 12 o'clock The rws is what they should put on all of their detectors

      you're the 1st person that ever asked this by the way. Back when youtube was young I needed to share a video that my friends didn't believe me of something that was happening. So I created a youtube channel to upload it. picked scannerguy1968 due to I sold gps's and police scanners on ebay. Sold a ton of scanners to friends. A few guys nicknamed me scanner guy. Went with it not knowing my channel would grow and couldn't change it. The original vid was a damn grouse that attacked me in the woods. Attack of the wild grouse.

      That's great I'm looking to get a portable scanner or base that covers the digital trunking system you got any brands models or ideas what might be the best I'm down in Nashville Clarksville ft.cambell so it's a good metro area.,I'm really thinking hard about a vaquero I've had whites Garrett tesoro they all have there personalities.but the lifetime warranty gets me everytime.do you think that the fresh dug buried plugs helped in finding the coins compared to undug coins .make another video using this technique.thanks scanner guy.

    Look how much disc your using hahahaha

  • @goodolbiker
    @goodolbiker 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    this is called power balancing and there is a better way to actually power balance the machine. Google will help explain. and also when you supertune the vaquero you lose a lot of the nuances of the tones and you will end up with lots more junk.

    • @scannerguy1968
      @scannerguy1968  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mr.Motarded Mike I've read up on power balancing. I might have missed something with it though so people are free to correct me. It looks as if you pump the coil in disc mode up and down 4-8 inches while lowering the ground bal knob until you hear a beep on uplift. Once this is done you do the opposite until the beep is gone. Then it is perfectly balanced in disc mode. If you were to do this in all metal it will make disc very positive and lose depth. What I did was step it further and deliberately go neg a 1/4 turn in disc mode. Doesn't work on other manual machines from what I've found but the Tesoros it helps gain depth but will have more falsing

    • @goodolbiker
      @goodolbiker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +scannerguy1968 ... when power balancing it is actually going negative like your doing, you turn sensitivity to 10 disc to iron... pump coil while turning GB to the negative when it starts popping turn it back positive untill it stops popping then your set. i guess when you ground balance in AM mode then you turn it to disc it automatically sets the machine more positive so by power balancing you are compensating for this. i always run all my tesoros in the negative for this reason and yes your right with this video the whole super tune is not needed to get depth it just makes the signals louder. keep up the good videos i enjoy watching them.

    • @scannerguy1968
      @scannerguy1968  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes good sense. I'm still wondering why I can't seem to get the same effect on other detectors. Thanks

    • @goodolbiker
      @goodolbiker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scannerguy1968 its cause tesoro sets the machines positive in discrimination mode on purpose so its more stable so when you GB then go into disc mode you aren't really balanced any more you are positive, so by power balancing you are actually balanced. i also have done this to my compadre by going inside the detector and turning the GB pot. it makes a huge difference. and my tejon i do the same thing.
