I've found for that wolf spider that sleeps under the leaf there, that if you place spike strips in a semi-circle blocking the entrance to the nook, that it more routinely stays put in the nook (while you are ontop of the leaves!). I got the idea after seeing a post on reddit where someone made a perfect circle of spike strips and sat inside them, apparantly spiders (orb weaver in the post) avoid stepping on spike strips intentionally. Side Note: Super glad you didn't do the "stereotypical youtuber" thing and equip the marksman hat with top tier sharpshooter and use a high tier bow to just go melt spiders and say "it's just that easy".
I don't know. I put six of them outside a base and it didn't seem to do anything. The thing still broken thru the wall to kill me, all the while standing on at least two of the strips.
Hey there, just came across your vid here, and whilst listening, I noticed an error. I live in the oak tree, up top, so I monitor the spiders below on a daily basis. And let me tell ya, closing of ALL the exists does NOT work. You should always leave at least one exit open, mate. This to prevent them from spawning outside their lair. If you close it of entirely, like I did at first, you'll have more than one spawning outside their lair after a while, which will cause you having to have a lot more spiders than you can handle. I had 5 of 'm at some point, wandering the region of the Oak Tree. Don't make my mistake folks. Just saying. Cheers ;)
Idk why he didn’t go over this but there are spots where wolf spiders are just sleeping, like the base of the tree has 2 that sleep right next to each other so you can farm gas sacks, get as close as you feel comfortable with, and just hit the floor right next to them with gas arrows until they die, as long as you don’t hit them directly they won’t wake up or agro, and there’s plenty of spots you can find sleeping wolf spiders, I’m sure you can look up the spawns
they also made the spiders seek you out more, even in daytime. I just want to build in peace, I'll hunt spiders when I want materials from them not when they walk up on me while I'm trying to place a staircase.
Yeah, spiders are brutal man, most videos on how to handle them are cheese tutorials. I’ve seen people mention that the mint mace/ant weapon with acorn armor and a shield are totally viable… haven’t tested that myself.
Usually I scream like a little girl and run away as I die from the poison. I have finally gotten brave enough to throw a few shots at the wolf spiders before I die, if I even have enough time to get a shot off. They are so fast and deadly.
I live on the lily pads by the tree in the pond. You can get the spiders to jump in the pond by luring them by stnding on the stick. They can get stuck in areas were you can hit them and they cant
Very simple answer, find a spot they can't jump over or onto and just pelt them with Arrows. Takes maybe close to 200 with a sprig bow and 120 or 130 with the insect bow. The other option is trying to dodge their unblockable jump attack and partying everything else with parry master and the parry trinket equipped.
My method is rushing the pond stuff, it's fairly safe and easy getting everything there and then I get koi armor, perfect blocking prevents the attacks from hitting you altogether so you take no poison damage you gotta get really comfortable with their attack animations. I also make beefy green machines as in combat healing potions, the hyperstamina really helps with laying in more attacks, and I rock the trident for optimal attack speed and range because after perfect blocking with koi armor you get a damage buff and being able to lay in more attacks after the buff is preferable to heavy hits. I also make sure I get the four leaf clover for extra crit and as long as you use spears consistently through your early grind you should have javelineer.
I poked the bear when I first got the bow and was at the oak lad for the 2nd time. I shot one saw the -10dmg i did the "Nope F that" and ran the W.S was on my ass hearing them aggro and shifting towards me really made me rethink not being armorer thank god for the pond LOL. I just started this game and I love it, thanks to your videos they help a lot
I do have a tip, which alot of ppl might already know, but, weevil shield. The weevil shield nullifies all damage when blocking, regardless of if you get a perfect block or not, now idk if that's valid for every bug, since I haven't fought all of them yet, and you can only use it with one handed weapons (daggers, spears, swords) so no clubs and no stun, but imo, it's pretty good, especially if you're struggling with melee. Two other things worth noting are that it's somewhat difficult to make since you need four raw weevil meat and getting all 4 before they spoil can be difficult, and, lastly, the ladybug armor also gives "blocking strength" which may or may not have the same effect (again, haven't crafted it yet). Well that's it and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
If you drop down mushroom caps from the little mushrooms on the ground you will attract a bunch of weevils makes it way easy to get I put them in a 1 buy 1 square of grass plank walls near my base
So I main with ladybug armor and yes it does do the same thing even when blocking with a sword. Btw I use black ant shield and mosquito needle as main so also take that in mind
I killed like 5 wolfspiders ever. But I cheesed hard all of them, and shot them with bow and arrow when they were stuck behind plants XDD not very honorable, but effective
It still works! I don't have high level sprig bow and I only brought 60 arrows and It ran out so I have to go down and whack it. Don't die there tho, as they respawn right away after you killed it to retrieve your items!
I usually just go onto the rotting leaf and shoot the wolf spider through the holes and the spider can't jump bc the holes are too small that is a rlly good way as well:)
My strategy is you use acorn armor and use barbarian and cardio fan, you can use fresh defense but you don’t need it. For early players you could use the ant club. Then just get some bandages and green machines( I would recommend about 10). Now before you attack the wolf spider use 1 bandage for some passive healing then go into third person to see better. Then just wack the spider but make sure to run around the spider to try and dodge the attacks and try to block and use green machines when needed. Hope I helped some of you guys.

Personally I have the most dumb and chaotic way of killing a wolf spider earlish game on Mild (usually only after I finish the hedge lab): First get the barbarian mutation and meat shield Upgrade spikey sprig to level 5 Upgrade grub armor to level 5 Craft 20 fuzz on the rocks Craft 20 bandages Don't even use them because you're lazy and have no patience for combat so instead you craft a lean to next to the wolf spider barrow and die. Yep, I did something like this when squishy. I built a little hut on a tree root by the lair. Then laid spike traps everywhere. The spider basically approached the traps and just stood there hissing. seems like they've changed the ai quite a bit up to release. in our first game back in 2020, a buddy and I built on the oak tree on one of the roots and were perfectly safe from the spiders in our home. at some point they gave spiders the ability to JUMP, so when we built in the same spot after release we got a surprise wolf spider hoping up onto our branch and waltzed through our front door to murder my buddy. luckily it glitched out trying to get back out the front door and we could kill it easily after that. damn crafty spiders.
So I'm new to the game, but I don't really know The Mutation's work, but it seems like even the wheelshield can protect you from all incoming damage even It's venom. So until also good if you're good at blocking.

there is a spot by the tree with an acorn. i don’t remember witch. you rotate around the acorn as the wolf aims tword you it hits the acorn and you can get 2 or 3 hits in after most of its attacks

Thank you for making this I've been having trouble killing these I only have grass grub weevil shield and ant well I dont have grub but I can make I haven't even killedmone so I'll try this method cuz I really want the insect bow to do increased damage
i found out even easier method just craft 3 spears shoot him with a bow and run inside the lab, he will come and just stand there he cant reach you so u can throw spears they do significant dmg when u throw them and u can take them out at the same time if u position yourself correctly and its much quicker too :D
Fun fact, you can aggro the spiders with a bow and train them to the Lilly pads, if you get them to jump on the Lilly pad you can get them to fall into the pond, killing them instantly.
Unfortunately it's a bit iffy, Wolf Spiders can jump and are extremely erratic when it comes to movement. You can sometimes get lucky with AI glitching out, but they also hit like a truck outside of poison damage, so it's a very inconsistent gamble.
Great video! I wanted to thank you and show my appreciation for you taking into full consideration that us viewers just starting off will not have the aforementioned mutations and the insect bow prior to us pursuing the Wolf Spider. I really do wish to see ALL of your Grounded content revamped, renewed & rebooted come version 1.0. Your channel is one of the very few that “gets it”. I do have a rather some request… Would you make a video, not just on how to get the gas mask, but from the same (have no gear & just starting off) situation? My attempts to corner the Stink Bug and Sprig bow them to death evades me. And the developers got smart and added some sort of despawning timer… so that I can’t wait to pick up the spoils of war, after coaxing 2 Orbweavers and a Stink bug to fight. I look forward to seeing the video! Thank you in advance. 🙏
There’s a large ant colony not far from the shrinking machine (it’s in the dead area grass). If you can coax soldier ants or the stink bug to one another and stay relatively close to be outside of the gas but still technically aggro the ants by accident you should have no issues.
@shambl4269 also once you get full red ant armor the soldier ants won't attack you unless you hit them. Then there are usually stink bugs close to the hill you can lead to the hill and let the ants do the hard work. Then you can loot a ton of ants too. That's how we got the parts for the gas mask then stinkers are easy!
I’m new to playing grounded, but if you start attacking an orb weever jr. does it call in a normal orb weever if it has a certain amount of health, just curious lol.
I managed to kill a wolf spider with just a pebblet spear by trapping it in the mysterious machine to a point where it couldn't move or get out, and I simply went behind it and kept stabbing it (this wasn't intentional, and I don't think I could pull it off again that easily).
How did you build all the way up? I can't carry wood/grass up ladder?? I've built stairs to go up but then whats the point of building the ladder tower if you have stairs right?
Whenever I do this, the spiders just heal to full after a bit of shooting. I don't stop, I shoot as fast as the sprig bow allows. What am I doing wrong?
Sometimes they heal and sometimes they don't. I'm not sure what makes it happen or not happen. I've had an Orb Weaver heal so much I couldn't kill it with a bow but then I've also had them just sit there and not heal at all.
@@MediocreMilton yeah orb weavers aren't really the prob, they go down easy with the ant club. It's the wolf spiders, and the fact i haven't mastered perfect blocks. It seems like whenever i shoot him from above, when the wolf spider realizes he cannot reach me, he de-aggros and his health goes back up. Anyways, I'll keep trying, thanks for the feedback.
Awesome video! Do you think that you can make a video fighting the Wolf Spider with early-game gear & weapons? Specifically, grub armor set and a pebblet axe. And then try it with semi-early-game gear, such as with acorn armor set and the pebblet axe. Thanks in advance!
Seems like the wolf spiders can't swim... If you can get them to fall in the water, they will drown or you can pop them with basic arrows. Works pretty well with the spider on the rocks near the picnic table.
They run really fast though, how do you kite them into the water without taking a hit in the early game? Maybe with grub armor you could pull it off, but even then I would be worried about getting aggro with diving bell spiders on top of dealing with the wolf spider. I'm not saying it's impossible, because it sounds like you have done it before. Any tips on how you can reliably use the strategy you described, or do I just have to be good at this game lol
The Mint Mace’s recipe is unlocked from the “Tasteful Ascent” chip inside the maze on top of the picnic table. You’ll need to track down the minotaur key before you can open it, which is inside a white exposed pipe between the sandbox and picnic table (cracked open on the bottom, not the top). You’ll need the Bone Dagger to cut through to the key.
I know this is a year old video, but my wolf spider had like 15 hp bars. Is it just because of the version? I played with 2 friends, so it's possible it was just scaled.
It depends on the amount of players near the enemy, when you are solo the wolf spider has 8 bars, when theres 2 plp it has 11 bars, and when theres 3 plp it has even more.
I've been playing this game so much I came home I walked in my room hung up my truck keys and seen a wolf spider above my calendar and keys crazy man I killed it instantly I find that weird I've never seen a wolf spider in a home
Bro I swear! I have a Golden Orbal Weaver spider on my front porch right now! apparently its just like a common yellow garden spider and theyre good for the homes cause they eat flies and wasps and stuff but i swear ive never seen one until i started playing this game.
You can unlock them from BURG.L. Zipline is made available after you give BURG.L the Hedge Chip and the Stem Floors are available after you give BURG.L the Grasslands Chip.
Thanks for making this guide. It's been very helpful. Most of the time when I look up a guide on how to kill X the person is just like "Use mint mallet and end game armour etc and you should have no trouble." Me trying to learn how to kill a bombardier beetle for the first time 😐 So it's good to see it done with starter weapons. The tip on the mutation is a good one too, I just need to cheese the first one then. I love the base too, that's some good inspiration for me. you might not catch this comment after the video being up for so long but how long did that all take to build?
it doesnt work anymore, they can jump and their pathing is extremely intelligent now, you cant just sit now on a tree or root and cheese them, they will get you if you dont build them in, thats the only way to cheese them atm, but even if that is risky because they try to attack you through stem walls they need to hit it 2 times and it will break
Their AI was improved recently, and the one under the leaf can now pathfind up to you. Best advice is weevil shield and larva blade, and only attack during an opening, and when you have good stamina. Mosquito needle works well too.
I don’t know if it was different when you made this comment but as of right now anything that deals poison damage doesn’t work on any spider. So the larva blade might still be good but it will have no poison effect
@@gordonbrown6491 I am aware of the poison resistance, I just recommend it because it’s an overall good weapon due to the low repair cost and high (ish) damage. Just means you won’t have to run back through the pond and flooded zone to get mosquito parts
not even close, if youre lucky they will ignore you after 2 shots and go back to sleep, if youre unlucky they will jump to you onto the tree roots and oneshot you. Only semi safe way to cheese them now is to build them in with stem walls, get aggro and they will bug half way through the wall without losing aggro
I haven't played in so long completely forgot how to parry them so even with tier 3 gear I'm getting my ass clapped in 1 attack (my armour is only bee armour :(
They resist Piercing damage. So you'll need like 120 arrows now. Of course if you're near the pond then getting them to drown themselves is still an option...
Every time I get one pinned and I have a hight advantage, I get the spider down less the half then it always loses focus and takes off.. I can never just get it to sit the whole time while I kill it. Hence why I'm here. Lol.

Now if your up high and the AI can't reach you it runs away and fully heals once its out of sight
Ima trust you on this
@@e36_touring5 let me now how it goes for you I was killing them like this daily I even run out of spiders all the time xD
Thank you for these guides.
Fun fact, you can aggro the spiders with a bow and train them to the Lilly pads, if you get them to jump on the Lilly pad you can get them to fall into the pond, killing them instantly.
yeah they seem to have added water damage. the remains are spoiled now in water.
@@freeone69 Yeah, it sucks when you find Crow Feathers in the pond only for them to dissolve into nothing when you break them... -_-
i just went to the burgle place and repeadedly threw the spears at it and picked em up lol
What armor did you have in the first clip? The spider hit you and you didn't lose that much health
Ladybug
@@MediocreMilton how is that possible, that spider just shreds me with one hit
Does anyone know if this still works after a year? Like he mentioned they may change the AI
I do have a rather some request…
Would you make a video, not just on how to get the gas mask, but from the same (have no gear & just starting off) situation?
My attempts to corner the Stink Bug and Sprig bow them to death evades me. And the developers got smart and added some sort of despawning timer… so that I can’t wait to pick up the spoils of war, after coaxing 2 Orbweavers and a Stink bug to fight.
I look forward to seeing the video! Thank you in advance. 🙏
There’s a large ant colony not far from
the shrinking machine (it’s in the dead area grass).
I set up at lemon crime and a few days after it just walked into my base
Must’ve been the taxidermy orb weaver and a soldier ant
I managed to kill a wolf spider with just a pebblet spear by trapping it in the mysterious machine to a point where it couldn't move or get out, and I simply went behind it and kept stabbing it (this wasn't intentional, and I don't think I could pull it off again that easily).
Question is it good if the spiders can jump up to you?
You can spam fire the crossbow I like using that because of it
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed
I'm pretty lazy when it comes to wolfs. I tend to build a wall around the resporn point andd shoot them.
How did you build all the way up? I can't carry wood/grass up ladder?? I've built stairs to go up but then whats the point of building the ladder tower if you have stairs right?
Is there a special way to block off the oak? The spiders on my world keep getting out and walking around my base.
I like the spicy great sword for wolf spiders
Those ladders so slow going up your tower. If you like fast traveling up use the spider web trampolines they make great jump ups
Good idea, I'll try to use trampolines in my next big tower!
Their health seems to regen when i do it
Whenever I do this, the spiders just heal to full after a bit of shooting.
@@CRK91 once you craft mint malet and ladybug gear you will find wolf spyders easy ;)
@@CRK91 One of those stupid as hell mechanics devs always add to de-agro and heal. It's incredibly annoying in most games.
Btw yo can just lead it the field station and his hit box will clip through the walls
Yeah, that sounds suicidal. I got 1-hit when I missed my block wearing full acorn armor lol
That's literally what this video is, mate
Dude thank you so much!!
Glad I could help!
You cannot hust run up to them and fight them with the mutation on. Tried it, got poisoned immediately and died.
This video is obsolete now that the spiders can jump
I killed the one under the leaf in the PTS using the full cheese method.
Can u do how to get the mint mace pls?
It's now locked behind story progression. You'll have to purchase it from the Science Shop once it finally appears.
Also if your low enough to the ground it'll jump up at you and your fucked
You can pull the two wolf spiders inside the tree to the oak lab door and shoot them from inside
@@Blaking_Bad it's crazy man I just read a article on google the other day about the spiders knowing the weather change so they come on in the house
@@mikec6014 i get the trimming and outside borders of my house sprayed with bug deterrent stuff so he/she will probably die if it tries to come in. =(
Great video...how do you get the Zipline or the weed stem floors?
You can unlock them from BURG.L. Zipline is made available after you give BURG.L the Hedge Chip and the Stem Floors are available after you give BURG.L the Grasslands Chip.
@@MediocreMilton Cool thanks
Best set up for boss fight?
All me and a buddy do for all these is I learn the hard way how to perfectly parry and scream for help while he shoots them with a bow.
please do a base build for this my god
How the times have changed. You prob. need like 300 errors to kill Wolf Spiiders now on Hard mode.
i blocked a spider entrance and it just spawned outside and then couldnt get back into its den
Wait, did He just auto collected the arrows?
Yup just walk over arrows to pick them up unless their wedged under something.
It did not work for me
can’t get insect bow without spider fang
Their AI was improved recently, and the one under the leaf can now pathfind up to you. Best advice is weevil shield and larva blade, and only attack during an opening, and when you have good stamina. Mosquito needle works well too.
I main with the black ant shield and mosquito needle and ladybug armor, this method does Work and is very useful. people take note.
How do make your things shiny and make canisters hold 4 water instead of 2
You have to purchase the Canteen upgrade from BURG.L for the extra slots. Not sure what you mean by make things shiny.
thank you😀
Me and my friends locked them in the tree and use spears or arrows while they get damaged by spikes
My wolf spider jumped up there, scared the shit of me and I booked it to the water.
Does this still work with the new update?
no
not even close, if youre lucky they will ignore you after 2 shots and go back to sleep, if youre unlucky they will jump to you onto the tree roots and oneshot you. Only semi safe way to cheese them now is to build them in with stem walls, get aggro and they will bug half way through the wall without losing aggro
I haven't played in so long completely forgot how to parry them so even with tier 3 gear I'm getting my ass clapped in 1 attack (my armour is only bee armour :(
A couple months later and I just use ant armor and lead spiders into ant hills 😈
gotta try that now :D that is actually pretty creative. I sometimes punch kill them :D
this was really helpful and i killed my first wolf spider because of this video
They nerfed the bow or buffed the spider bc i couldn’t do it with 80 arrows
They resist Piercing damage. So you'll need like 120 arrows now. Of course if you're near the pond then getting them to drown themselves is still an option...
This was before the full release am i right?
Every time I get one pinned and I have a hight advantage, I get the spider down less the half then it always loses focus and takes off.. I can never just get it to sit the whole time while I kill it. Hence why I'm here. Lol.
You just need to get in a spot that the spider stands still. It takes practice getting it right but once you do the game is so much easier.
