    Relative replaced a 2016 1.2 110bhp 6 speed with a 2019 1.0 110bhp 6 speed and said it was noticeably more gutless, harsher and noisier with poorer fuel consumption. Just a cost cutting measure 1.0 3 cyl over 1.2 4 cyl.

    Why on every review about a Skoda do they say it has some clever features "like an ice scrapper in the fuel cap"? Has anyone actually lived with or reviewed a Skoda during a frost? The fuel lid is one of the things that's frozen shut thus preventing you from accessing the ice scraper. Simply Clever eh?

    The red paint and black grill improves it but seems a very ugly car to me and this particular model seems about £3-4,000 over priced. Seems like Skoda reliability is dropping and prices are increasing so not the value option it used to be. Still think overall Skoda cars make more sense than any other Volkswagen group brands but not keen on this particular model. I believe the 3 cyclinder engines in these don't have a great reputation for reliability but at least it isn't a turbo which further erodes reliability considerably. Nothing appeals about this car really and I certainly wouldn't spend £16-17,000 for one.

      True that some plastic parts are rarely touched but reporting the quality of an interior is part of a vehicle review. Some of us are glad she and Batch do this.
      What I wish was fleshed out more is the nuances of the drive line, particularly in stop start traffic.

    Had MY2016 full optioned Fabia Combi for a year. Listening to build quality and overall quality just make me laugh. Plastics almost “melt” when hot coffee drop hits it (true story) when something is pried open (because I had like 3 places where it started to rattle) the way the plastics just bend because of it is something I have never seen before. Most of the functions are not “intuitive” at all, like the stupid cruise control. Drove it for 1 year, gave it away and never looking back at Škodas. The new owner reported of rusting tailgate last Summer, steering wheel buttons have been changed, multimedia system crashes and above all the 1.2 TSI engine has started to build a weird noise when deaccelerating which Škoda dealership told is norma. Just glad I didn’t get Superb as apart from more squishy plastics the base of everything is quite the same... but I guess I am demanding. :)

    One of the lads in work has one, the the older version & it's not a bad little car, it's also in a very 70's green (which i quite like) Totally agree with you about the scratchy plastics, just because something is cheap doesn't mean it has to feel that way & in this day and age there's no real need for it. The price for the Monte Carlo pack is getting there in price, the ST would be worth the extra change imo.

    "if you are spending well over 19k £, you don't want to feel this 'cheap' plastic". Well that is quite profound way of discribing, if you would. In Africa we are quite modest and never get to notice such our focus are pretty much on basics. All in all I hope skodas make a come back to Africa as an earlier attempt to introduce them failed and to see any nowadays is a red herring event and it would definitely be an old model of skoda oktavia.

    • @jackkirowo3022
      @jackkirowo3022 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @swansea007791 Kindly allow me to speak hypothetically as I am not an authorty on matters marketing, I am also not privy of any research data in the automotive industry in Africa and as such mine will be purely on observation.
      To be able to push any vehicle brand especially in the Kenyan Market requires a confluence of of various factors:
      1. DEALERSHIP
      You have to work with established dealerships with country wide reach that way you could easily levarage on on their countrywide branches to make the much needed servicing and spare parts available as close as possible to the clients
      Also be aware that various dealerships have their areas of specialisation whereby others sell more commercial vehicles as opposed to personal vehicles, others also specialise in selling luxury vehicles.
      2. GOVERNMENT
      ln Kenya, the government plays a big role in the success of vehicle sales mainly through direct purchase and leases as they are the single largest purchasers of vehicles needless to mention that the government comes up with policies that can affect vehicle sales.
      For instance in Kenya, duty was increased recently based on engine capacity, this simply means, the bigger the engine capacity, the more the duty, this will definitely affect the sale of high performance cars which are mostly luxury cars.
      Further to that there is a policy whereby the Kenyan government will only buy locally assembled cars, that locks many dealers out and the government is the biggest purchasers and leasers of vehicles in Kenya.
      3.FINANCING
      Kenya being a middle class nation whose population demographics is mainly of youths who have just graduated from collage meaning their only chance at buying a vehicle is through financing and majority prefer used vehicles as opposed to new ones the other segment of the population is small leaving the government as the biggest purchasers of new cars as government , the government policies require they buy new cars and keep renewing the fleets .
      Borrowing is quite expensive , you can imagine someone borrowing Ann expensive loan to buy a Jaguar which costs double what it is sold for in England owing to duty, transport costs and dealership profits and advartisments and other overheads such factors affect small cars to such that they push the cost benefit factors above the threshold of reasonable limits. An example I'd rather buy a used 8 year old marcedes c class from Japan at 19k £ rather than buying a brand new Toyota for more or less the same price
      4. BRAND LOYALTY AND BRAND ALLGENCE
      This is key in that certain nations are loyal to certain brands like the American government with cardilacs, vehicles such as jeeps, Chevys etc, in Kenya it is Toyota all the way from economy segment to luxury segment that is vitz to landcrusers.
      Brand ALLGENCE comes in the form, probably my parents mostly owned Toyotas or subarus then when I buy a car I decide to buy subarus, or I'd the Uncle I admire once gave me a ride on his marcedes then I work hard and become successful, definitely I'd buy a benz
      5.MARKET NITCHE
      BECAUSE OF THE MASSIVE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY SKODA STANDS A BETTER CHANCE SELLING THEIR NICELY DESIGNED PICKUP TRUCKS AND THROUGH THE RIGHT DEALERSHIP THEY CAN SELL THE POPULAR SUV, BY THE WAY HONDA CRV HAS STORMED THE MARKET AND HAS CAUSED RAV 4 TO BE RELIGATED OFF THE MARKET SEGMENT IN JUST 4 YEARS MEANING YOU CANT REST ON YOUR LOURELS IN AFRICA, by the way Prados have made pajeros obsolete, that is how intense market battles are in sub Saharan Africa
      Also on market niche of late low gas consumption engines below 800 cc are popular with taxi or cab drivers especially Suzuki alto 650 cc
      6. PATNERING WITH LEASING COMPANIES COULD BE A MAJOR BOOST FOR AS LONG AS THE PRICING IS RIGHT
      That is how peagot has made a comeback in the Kenyan market
      All in all the African market has matured with Africans buying vehicles such as Jaguar, range Rover, Hummer, porshe, maybach, bently, rolls Royce, Aston Martin etc at almost double what it costs in Europe and that's just a tip of the iceberg . Because of time allow me so stop here. To the team at Skoda " bon chance" in all your endeavors, of course needless to mention the evolution in the automotive industry is one that is very dinamic such that if you were to bring someone from the 13th century he would describe a car as a " sophisticated carriage, without horses" my parting shot.

    • @jackkirowo3022
      @jackkirowo3022 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @John Bell quite strong sentiments there, though my view are quite conservative and I'd rather go with the Bible definition. The rich man who got a record hervest and had to tear down his warehouse and bild another one because before he had never had such a harvest to warrant such expansion, he beat his chest and told himself that now he can rest for his lifetime because he had hervested enough, bit then the Bible calls him a fool because the very night GOD ALMIGHTY CAME TO TAKE BACK THE LIFE GIVING BREATH, HEFETH HAIM, THE FIRST BREATH GOD GAVE ADAM THAT ALL HUMANITY IS BREATHING TODAY
