If you did this in real life with the lights only coming on in sections surely you'd crash into...the wall. Who races TOWARD a wall?" These loveable dim bulbs, that's who lol

Yea...the Lancer had everything thrown at it...staged I'm sure...I wanted to like the wrx when it first appeared on the scene decades ago...but just could not stand the sound of the horrid boxer...they sound like they're always running on 3 cylinders. I had a Forester GT as a company car...and seriously...it feel apart. Stupid things like Drink holder breaking...Windscreen wiper motor packing it in...Alternator "Fell Off"...so many things just simply fell off. All under warranty but it was always in the shop for some stupid thing...after the Forester I swore never to personally own a Subaru
Scandi flick was right up there as one of the best episodes for me ,love the Subaru, was genuinely shocked when James smashed that wall , Clarkson locked in the boot 🤣 ,class
Seriously how was it one of the best, go back and rewatch past specials as this one falls seriously short... worse than the crap Madagascar one... peoples standards are slipping badly
Some of it was really good but too much of it was staged and for a show about rallying there was naff all rallying to be seen. I mean really, watching a subaru rallying through the mountains would have been far more interesting than watching it tow a shed or some faked ice crash.
It reminded me of the donkey part where he fell off of one of them. Then there's the part where he was knocked on the ground by the rope they had tied to the jaaaaaag and the mini and he got a bloody head in the middle east because of it.
That episode felt way more extreme than most of the previous ones, with the crash and the fire and the utter destruction. And watching the crash, it certainly did look much more serious than it actually was. Seeing his head jerk towards the window with no airbag curtains, and seeing his dazed expression when he exited the car, I was so sure he had a concussion and I teared up a bit. I was in a crash while I had my head resting against the window of a chevy spark before my side was rammed by an SUV with a nudge bar. I think I would have either had serious eye injuries with glass in my eyes, or suffered severe head/brain trauma had I not decided to lay my seat back and lie down 10 seconds before we got hit. I remember looking down at the shards of glass all over my lap and chest and just dissasociating, thinking I was in a dream the first few seconds after the crash. It is just such a scary experience. However, my bf and I both loved the episode, my boyfriend even more so because he's northern Swedish and was very excited to see them visit. We can't wait for the next!
@@Creamcups In the one accident I've been in - a passenger in a car sliding sideways towards a cliff face - I remember in the moments I saw that cliff coming towards my side of the car going "I'm tense. I need to relax or it'll hurt more", looked forward, released the tension in my neck, and then we made impact. Managed to avoid whiplash, so something must have worked...
After he bounced his head off the rock in the middle east, was knocked unconscious, taken to the hospital, and somehow came back later the same day with somehow a clean bill of health.. I'm pretty convinced he's got an iron head.
I'm really liking these more subdued car exploration and conversations. Don't get me wrong, I love the insanity of the normal episodes, but this more low-key video has reminded me that nobody can shoot the ***t like car guys.
As much as the three men of them together are absolutely hilarious they also have unbelievable knowledge about cars and have nothing but absolute love for them, that’s truly unique and from the heart, that can never be replaced.
I was a subaru guy who jumped ship to an evo 9. James is absolutely right about it, the Evo is way more ratchet or as the brits call it, chav. That said funny enough, most people in the community are fans of both lol, not really as much divisiveness about it as people tend to think!
@@Myrvold Like the whole interminable section on the ski slope, and winching the car out of the lake after it "accidentally" fell through the ice. Could have done without both of those.
First half was perfection, second half felt more scripted, but there's no denying that crash was no planned. Overall an enjoyable viewing experience I'd say.
James really wanted to win. And for me on this episode James and that Evo gets the win, surviving that crash and falling through the ice. This is a great episode. And this post-trip talk is a great idea, you guys should do more if possible! And thank you for the laughs and awesome content as always.

James May has become the elder statesman of TGT. He is the perfect foil for Richard and Jeremy - and I would listen to them recite an old telephone book. More of this, please.
Seeing them drive around the area of my hometown of Tromsø was so cool. And I think A Scandi Flick was one of the best specials yet, I may be a little bit biased, but seeing these awesome cars go rallying was really cool, and James made me appreciate what a beast that EVO really is, Richard choosing the Subaru Petter Solberg won his championship in, and I thought I was crazy at first, but I always thought Jeremy had a good point with the Audi, and he was so right. Thanks for an awesome special

I really feel like that EVO needs to be put on a plinth and preserved. I honestly can't believe that May isn't keeping it because that car was the hero of the story. Completely indestructible. By the end it looked hung drawn and quartered and yet it still got to the there. A true testament to Japanese quality and a great example of a car with an enormous heart!
Really enjoyed this video with a more personal and slow paced talk about the cars. Sad that the Evo was written off but surely some parts must be salvageable. Hopefully bits of it can live on elsewhere.
This episode felt a lot more real with all their banter. Sure there are some heavily scripted moments, but it felt like the good old days of their top gear adventures. Best episode of Grand Tour yet imo
One of the best GT episodes yet. I loved every second of it. It reminded me of the good old days on TG. Also, a former EVO owner and current STi owner I prefer the STi. It's not faster and it's less capable over all, but they are fantastic cars and they sound so special.
the wrx and evo really are special cars. WRC has produced a handful of timeless classics and these are definitely two of the best. they tapped in to that special kind of mechanical magic; where the passion that went into the design becomes tangible in the form of driving experience
See, for me being a bit older, I'd look at the (original!) Audi Quattro, and the Mitsubishi Galant as being rally classics. Of course, anyone even marginally older than me would probably be muttering something angry about the Ford Escort right now... but really, that 5cyl Quattro blatting through a rally stage, makes the hairs on your hair stand on end.

@@Milnoc even bent frames can be repaired if you have the money to do it, or getting a new frame made, but thats expensive, seems like may's not interested enough to keep it to save it, and hammonds business would have to charge him a pretty penny for it, ( season 2 of the workshop can't come soon enough).
Get it to Mat Armstrong!
I've watched Jeremy since my early teens and I still remember the first show these three did together in a near-empty studio. These three have been with me through my life, feeding my interest in cars. There's no one like them simply because no one sees, interprets, and communicate about cars the way these three do. I'm super grateful for them and for the team that makes these films possible.
May's crash at the start, and going through the ice. I've watched these guys for a long time and it's the first time I really went 'oh shyt'. And twice in a single episode.
Ice part was clearly staged and safe, you could see that all the time. Nobody from the crew even tried to rescue him and then clarkson and hammond did that idiotic rescue mission that took like 2 hours at least and car didnt drown by even an inch during that time, it was clear that its supported by some platform below the ice or they just choose very shallow spot. Tunnel crash was much more dangerous
Ice crash wasn't real, it was a setup
They are acting like season 7 top gear.
I like it!
What about when James got laid out by the winch that one time?
The episodes themselves need to be more like this. This is so natural, and therefore naturally funny.
Naturally all scripted
You know, I think you're onto something here. Perhaps they can find a studio where they discuss cars. And perhaps a track where they test them. Ohhh! I got it! They can do it on weekly basis and have like a TV show or something! :D
The show is literally like this, but with more driving and more info and more stupid high budget stunts.
@@InhalingWeasel I enjoyed the radio show they did, I'm not one for podcasts but maybe the occasional one of them would be good.
I agree, the banter made it more than the set pieces
The crash was terrifying but seeing James almost fall through the ice was heart stopping
I know, I live in Quebec next to a river, on winter's, there's always someone dies on the ice... ( And I never step foot on the ice anymore unless it's really been cold for weeks ), seeing that made me go " my nightmare! Aaaand that motor is now waterlock"
It was but he didn’t drown so I turned it off.
most terrifying part for me was when they pulled it out from the tow ball. that is just asking for disaster with all that tension the tow ball can snap off and the trajectory of it goes straight towards the 3 of them at a very high speed
Ice part was clearly staged and safe, you could see that all the time. I agree.. The show could have been about sewing machines, and I would watch it 😀
Absolutely and after the fiasco of the cancellation I hope they move to Netflix Amazon waste so much money on crappy shows. The only reason I got Amazon was that show otherwise I’ll cancel them who cares about the Royals and their antics !
@@JOERANSTRAIGHTI still never understood what happened. With this, and also clarksons farm
So the safest driver is in fact Clarkson, who'd have thought?
Always!!! Most "maniacs" are in fact the safest drivers because they have crashed already... in a safe place and manner without cameras :D or witnesses... so they know their car's limits
I mean he only had one speeding ticket in 40 years of driving and he knows what he is doing so yes.
Speed and power really is answer to everything
@PGBlips Speed does tend to expose you to more potential to suddenly stopping though...

Glad to see James is ok. Just watched and was genuinely shocked seeing that crash
Same here. Having been in an accident that merged a tree, my right front wheel, the engine somewhere in the middle, and the left part of the engine with the left front wheel a little outside the car, I was shocked and taken back for a second. But it was good to see he came out even better than I did (and I am not complaining).
same here. I let out an audible "oh shit" when it happened. The crash was completely unexpected. Glad James is ok!
I had just spun out in my car earlier that day when I watched the special, so that crash had me especially shocked.
They definitely got me. When they started racing *into* a tunnel toward a wall I figured, "Eh, this kind of sucks. Clearly it's got to be faked in some way for the purposes of television. If you did this in real life with the lights only coming on in sections surely you'd crash into...the wall. Who races TOWARD a wall?"
These loveable dim bulbs, that's who lol

The race in the tunnel was crazy, the guts they have these guys at their age
But why didn't they just race OUT of the tunnel??

Now I want to see them restore it. I'm doing alot more to mine than what it would take to fix theirs.
Watching this just evokes great memories of the last 19 years of Top Gear and Grand Tour with Clarkson, May, and Hammond. An epic journey and the catalog keeps growing. Thanks.
I hope you three never retire, even though we only see one show a year or so its worth it. Thanks guys and stay safe.
So uh...sad news-
That crash shook me when I saw it, I'm glad a legendary car kept another legendary man safe.
I’d watch hours of them just going through their old film cars 😇
I’d watch hours of watching Hammond trying to get up the ski slope on the sledge 😂
Same that would be an amazing series on its own.
Same, if only the BBC would allow for them to show footage of their Top Gear days as they discussed the vehicles! That said, I'm so glad that Amazon picked them up! I just re-watched the "Seamen" episode again haha, got me thinking, it would be cool if their next special was like one of their old Top Gear challenges, where Jeremy drives the car and Richard & James use public transit or James' little Cessna plane.
@@BullittHilts They do those on The Grand Tour as well. Like Clarkson in the Ford GT vs Hammond and May on the train.

Scandi Flick was the funniest and most entertaining yet. I know the blokes are getting old and all but I really wished they did more of these. Fantastic entertainment!
I have an Evo 8 and I love that the Evo survived everything! I think it needs to go into the Top Gear/Grand Tour hall of fame with the Toyota Helix.
Yea...the Lancer had everything thrown at it...staged I'm sure...I wanted to like the wrx when it first appeared on the scene decades ago...but just could not stand the sound of the horrid boxer...they sound like they're always running on 3 cylinders. Some of it was really good but too much of it was staged and for a show about rallying there was naff all rallying to be seen. I mean really, watching a subaru rallying through the mountains would have been far more interesting than watching it tow a shed or some faked ice crash.
I wish they did these as “in-between” episodes between the big grand tour episode that would be fantastic
I’m just glad May came out of that crash alive. I got really worried about him. When i saw him in the garage i was really relieved
It reminded me of the donkey part where he fell off of one of them. Then there's the part where he was knocked on the ground by the rope they had tied to the jaaaaaag and the mini and he got a bloody head in the middle east because of it.
So glad these two decided to do this - a great way to cap off the Scandi Flick special.
It's crazy how the adrenaline momentarily makes you a supergenius in these situations, than seconds later you turn into a zombie. Glad you're okay.
@@Creamcups In the one accident I've been in - a passenger in a car sliding sideways towards a cliff face - I remember in the moments I saw that cliff coming towards my side of the car going "I'm tense. Managed to avoid whiplash, so something must have worked...
After he bounced his head off the rock in the middle east, was knocked unconscious, taken to the hospital, and somehow came back later the same day with somehow a clean bill of health.. I'm pretty convinced he's got an iron head.

As much as the three men of them together are absolutely hilarious they also have unbelievable knowledge about cars and have nothing but absolute love for them, that’s truly unique and from the heart, that can never be replaced.
Man it's so nice to see them actually converse like this
As a MASSIVE Evo/Mitsu fan, this episode is GOATED.
But also this one felt way less scripted and more natural. Straight up classic
Makes me wonder what this episode would’ve turned out like if James hadn’t of had his 2 mishaps
I was a subaru guy who jumped ship to an evo 9. James is absolutely right about it, the Evo is way more ratchet or as the brits call it, chav. That said funny enough, most people in the community are fans of both lol, not really as much divisiveness about it as people tend to think!
I must say the opposite. It felt extremely scripted :/
May, Hammond & Clarkson are the Beatles of car shows, I love them all. I can't get enough of the cutting edge of cocking about.
James really wanted to win. And for me on this episode James and that Evo gets the win, surviving that crash and falling through the ice. This is a great episode. Hammond saying he was seriously gutted after May's crash ... because his car lost its rival, is just typical for these guys 😅😅😅

Waking up sliding down the hill was also hilarious
"We're quite old now" hits different. When the day that these three are gone arrives it's going to be one of the saddest days in car history and television history too.
I don't know exactly what it was but this episode really reminded me of the topgear days, it almost felt like a not so cheap car challenge especially seeing James arrive at the end with the evo still somehow working

One of the best GT episodes yet. I loved every second of it. It reminded me of the good old days on TG. Also, a former EVO owner and current STi owner I prefer the STi. It's not faster and it's less capable over all, but they are fantastic cars and they sound so special.
Not better than the Space shuttle Robin was. That episode is going to be VERY hard to beat. LMAO!
God I'd love to watch a round table where the three of them sit down after each episode and discuss the adventure like this.
the wrx and evo really are special cars.
