yet another great video , easy to understand spot on.. i have had a problem where my belt has worn on one side 200 tdi, its rubbing on the tensioner lip which guides the belt . all new bits fitted and all looks as it should ? what could be causing this ... many thanks.
Just doing my 200tdi, weird thing is: I have the camshaft sprocket punch mark lined up, the crankshaft woodruff key vertical to the arrow on the engine case, yet I cannot see the notch cutout on the flywheel to allow me to pin lock the crankshaft? The engine is from a discovery. By the way, brilliant video thanks.
+Land Rover Toolbox Videos thanks for the swift response, the crank cannot be 180 degrees out, as the key way is vertical, I'll go with swapped out flywheel or incorrectly fitted flywheel if that's possible.? I've done the belt, and both front crank seals, your video's made the job allot easier than following the haynes manual. Thanks again for putting them on you tube, hopefully I'll get my 90 finished for Christmas
You are welcome. The 2.5 NAD flywheel fits to the 200tdi and it has a EP ( exhaust peak) marker which are seen as a scribed mark. with 14 degrees next to it.
Hi, I find your videos very helpful, but I have a question unrelated to the timing belt, hope you dont mind. I think theres a problem with my wastegate(300tdi) I cant move the actuator rod by hand even using a steel bar to prise it. I know it takes a certain psi to get it to move but should it be movable by hand? Reason for checking is that its alittle flat around 2100rpm so I fear the wastegate may be stuck open. Many thanks
Hi Great video, Where did you but the belt tool from? Also ive never done a timing belt before some im going to give it a go. Ive been warned the bolts in the timing cover can snap any advice on this?. On my landrover 200tdi its not been used for a while im getting a bit of light blue/grey smoke on acceleration . Would an oil and filter change help. There is nothing on tickover just the usual puff on start up. thanks lee
Belt tool from Paddock spares. Look under the tools section on their website. Here for timing case front cover th-cam.com/video/CjFV-w5YMCE/w-d-xo.html. If you have a little oil when the engine is cold / on start up it could be an indication that the valve stem seals are worn. Oil change may not help much.
I was with you till that cra happy music started why do you turn the music on when giving instructions. I want to hear your commentary not your choice in music. Having headphones on makes it more of a thumbs down situation. Otherwise it was good. Phil
This is excellent. I love the reference quotes to the manual. So academic! Cheers!

What about cam and crankshaft oil seals ??
Thanks and big thumbs up for the video - found it very useful since my timing belt on my Disco 300TDI just broke.
i have a 300tdi disco is it just the same procedure
cheers ... it was the front cover, it had been heli coiled and the roller bearing was not holding the amount of Nm , applied..
Hi, Is it possible to check if the timing in 300tdi jumped or not without removing the timing cover?
Many thanks
how do i remove the engine on a defender 300tdi?? any videos on how to ?

+Diydude69 could have the wrong flywheel on it or the notch is 180 degrees out.

hi have you done a timing belt on a 19j engine
Yes but planned for after September.
Hi is this a defender or Discovery?
Have a 93 200tdi defender that i am in the process of changing the timing belt.,
my engine has no static idler bearing ? Is this normal ?
Mike Robertson are you sure it is a 200tdi? 2.5NAD or Td 19J has a different set up.
***** 19J have worked it out. Video was very helpful . Thanks
Hi i would like to know if this procedure isn't similar for the 19j engine or the 2.5TD .
Thanks
no it is not simular. There a pins for timing the Injector pump up which are different completely
whats a vm engine?
