How do you do these kinds of things? I've been wanting to go to Achi Baba for a while now to do this kind of thing but not too sure where I'd start looking once I get there
A few quick questions for you, if that’s ok, when you discover live ordnance you always re-bury it and mark the spot for bomb 💣 disposal teams, how exactly do you mark the spot and how do you reference where it is?, do you use GPS coordinates or just a map reference? and finally, is there a set of rules/conduct instruction for metal detector users to follow? for example, do they contain instructions for notifying the authorities about un-exploded ordinance or if you find human remains (I hope you never do find any, that would be very saddening). The brass circular mount at the start of the video looks like the tip of an officers pace stick that they used as a directionally aid to direct fire for soldiers further along the trench line so they could be seen at a distance. Some officers never used them as it would signify to a sniper that they was an officer. The half circular light looks like the rear light from the motorbike. Love the stuff you was bringing out. The dispatch riders used canvas holdalls for messages and they wore a long leather sleeveless coat without a collar.
While I was in the german army for six years, my job was to aid the EOD's (I was a combat-paramedic) in case something happens. We worked at a air to ground weapon range to find and clear duds, which was a military training area in WWI and WWII, after the war used by british troops and later by the Bundeswehr. We found so many dumps. And I mean A LOT. The whole forests around that area are full of british dump holes, they just buried german canteens, belts, helmets, gas masks, personal stuff of soldiers (GER and ENG) who where stationed there etc in those holes and covered it up with dirt and sand again. I think the british troops used this place, to storage stuff of surrendering and surrendered german soldiers and later dumped everything. We NEVER cleared these dumps when we found them while detecting, we just shoveled sand over these again, because they just contained harmless stuff like small caliber ammo or just british and german WWII-era equipment as I said (we were looking for bombs, grenades and bigger ammo etc). Of course many other dump holes were just filled with trash, old trash but still interesting. :P And all those dumpholes are now located outside of the (still active) air to ground weapon range.
The bottle at 14:22 was manufactured at United Glass Bottles, UGB, in St Helens, England. The number 8 to the sides on the bottom, would be the mold number as each mold was numbered so it could be Identified if it became defective. I worked for the company for a short period in the 1960s.
Watching you dig up these artifacts and relics made me wish I was out there helping to uncover these great finds. I especially appreciate your ongoing narrative of what you dig up and the research you do with these discoveries. Can't wait for the next video.
If I did that around here, all I would get is bottle caps and pull tabs. On another note, I really enjoy your channel. You show reverence for what happened there.
Rubber was also used for tourniquet for massive injuries where an artery would need to be stopped flowing to that extremity so maybe a medic bag contents ?
2:55 is part of a matrix seal. This is the seal part itself is gone but its still an amazing find. This is probably older than ww2. I guess it's 19th century.

Lol, that's what I said till I found a big solid silver skull ring amongst the scrap in a Canadian farm field. Quite a few old silver Canadian coins too. Don't give up. Every dog has it's day. Try your local creek or river. That's where I find the balance of my relics. Happy digging. Hank
Like I’ve said in a previous video. Bullets are not live when they’ve been exposed to the weather like that. Powder is definitely bad in those, plus you need a spark to set that off. It’s not like other bombs that need only slight movement to go off. These are practically safe.
8:30 looks like the burnt remains of a string and washer envelope. I’m guessing you found a messenger motorcycle that broke down so he burned his documents, either to keep warm, or to keep them from being captured.
I forgot to mention the episode where you found that MP40, totally awesome, when I got my Cass lol FFL, got an MP 40 with aluminum grips ,the STG44 too ,MP 40 dated 1941, STG 44 dated 1945 still in the grease, never fired and never will be.
So, here is very strong evidence that we British did actually take part in WW2. We hardly ever get a mention or see us in contemporary film or see remains of our equipment on battlefields. But I know that a soldier uncle of mine is buried in Belgium, another uncle was in the BEF and escaped via Dunkirk and later went in at Arnhem in an airborne division and my own father was a prisoner of war for 3 years after being wounded-in-action and was later registered as 40% disabled. Also, I remember fatherless children who were contemporaries of mine and their widowed mothers and massive bomb damage . We were in the war alright - and from start to finish!
Agreed mate, all of the Allied Nations had a massive part in ending WW2, yet it seems it was the Yanks old boy that did it all on their own, Both times! Even if they were several years late on both occasions!
You Brits definitely did! Your role for our freedom in Europe was essential. Most of the stuff we find is actually German, simply because they were the losing party overall. They left most equipment behind.
The Americans actually sent a lot of movie makers to Europe during WWII, they were way ahead of any other country in terms of film making at that time. That’s why there is a lot of footage from the American side. Also afterwards in terms of films and documentaries, the Americans do make a lot of them. This is why some people think they’re arrogant but they’re just telling their own part of the story, which of course, any other country is quite entitled to do the same.

Those vehicle parts you found are from the G503 Jeeps, if you look closely at the blackout light lens inside, the top of the headlight bowl near the lip and the brake pad shoes (the half moon shaped things) you might find a cursive “F” stamp for Ford. That would mean it was a Ford GPW Jeep, if not then they’re Willys manufactured parts. The type inner tube fits the G503 tyres...they can in 6.00 and 7.00 sizes, 6.00 being the smaller thickness from rim to tread. It’s strange to find those things in the hole but if the globes were blown and the brake pads worn out, they’re an easily replaced item and seeing as the brake pads were riveted on with brass rivets, it might have just been easier and quicker to swap out the whole part for a new part and throw away the old part. These would have been parts carried in the toolbox’s of the Jeep for basic field repairs. The rifle speed load clips are British .303 as are the rounds. This could have been British or even Canadian forces as being both Commonwealth troops they used the same equipment and would have received everything out of the British Army QM stores in England.
I just want to say at around 12:00 mark you kept referring it to a Lee Enfield bullet clip but it could also have been a M1 Grand bullet clip since they both used a external bullet clip feed mechanism.
next to the river Thems you can find Victorian pottery and old horse bones but the only war items there are is from the blitz like shrapnel or if you are in Bristol you could find English mortar bombs from the British ammunition factory.
I have just discovered your fantastic channel this evening! That bottle you found @5:30min has the initial UGB which stands for United Glass Bottle and with a little research I have found the plant where it was made and the year, it's from Sherdley which is in St Helens, England (our town has a long and rich history in glass production) which is about a 2 minute walk from my house! It was made between 1913-59 if that is indeed an S, I see on the bottle! Edit so I commented the above not long after seeing it, continuing through the video I see you found a bottle from Manchester, which coincidentally is about 20 miles from St Helens, we're pretty much between Liverpool and Manchester so it's really interesting! Sorry, I'll continue to watch now rather than comment! 🙈
that plate with 4 holes is the upper part of a P59 ammobox shell holder., i see some brake shoes as well looking to be willys or mb. That blackoutlight was mounted on the lefthand side fender.
Honesty it's sad you can't keep the ammunition. Explosive material I understand like fuses and grenades. But small arms ammunition is not really dangerous to handle.
They don’t let you keep the ammunition because it is hard to trust someone keeping it safe. It can be stolen and then used again (that is not for any war effort)

The Thing at 2:36 is what we call a Petschaft. It holds a seal, like a seal ring. Good luck guys

I have found a quarter of a silver coin once but that was the only proper decent find I have had
I once dug a pit of 15-25 beer cans to find a 1920s brass lipstick tube under it all. Was it worth it? Probably not but I was happy.

it is a lee enfield clip however as it only stores 5 bullets instead of 8. The bolt for the lee had to be pushed inward the garands was semi automatic

A fuse uses a very sensitive charge to detonate the shell itself.. So take more care of you run into fuses..

That beer bottle has UGB on. This is the company who made it, United glass bottles. Made in Britain during the 1940s and 1960s.
