    I just wanted to say thanks for your explaining the history and stories behind the relics you find. It helps to understand what these soldiers on both sides had to deal with and what being on the front lines were like. That stainless steel pan in such great condition was a big surprise as were seeing the varieties of artifacts. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Can't wait for the next one.

    Great badge yes,53rd welsh division,my father was in it 3rd Battalion South Wales Borderers so was his Brother who is buried in cemetery in Holland.
    He was part of 30 corps Operation Market Garden and is buried at a small war cemetery only around 300 graves.

    • @noahellis3672
      @noahellis3672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My salute to your father and uncle for their service. From what I read on Operation Market Garden it certainly wasn't the easy drive through Holland as the allies hoped it would be. The veterans who served during WW2 especially in Market Garden deserve our thanks and respect. Please tell your dad that this grateful American appreciates his service and has my thanks.

    Soldiers would not abandon their canteen or similar equipment intentionally. Could the soldiers who were issued these have been killed/injured & removed to a field hospital thus leaving the items behind? Every item of military equipment recovered has a unique story to tell.

      Can someone explain that? I’m aware any explosives like Grenades or mines would need destroyed. But it seems ridiculous rounds being destroyed. Is it part of the rules of that country and the terms you agree to, to go treasure hunting?

    • @GetDougDimmadomed

      During assaults and trench warfare, a lot gets left behind, especially in retreat. In both world wars, the same two feet of land could be fought over for months, if not years. In a full-scale retreat, you only take what you can carry, so generally a lot would get left behind in the chaos when your enemies are right on your heels.
