James Montague, the writer of this, sat down and interviewed the Goalkeeper of Panama this weekend too, which you can see here. If you enjoyed the video it's a must read: bit.ly/PanamaInt

Great interview! We are extremely excited in Panama! We had a “reasonable” draw so at least the pictures of Panama players running after Harry Kane or sliding over Eden Hazard, or even kicking the ball and trying to beat Courtois will be great! LOOLOLOL In all seriousness we think we can get at least score and a draw in a game. We played very well against Wales

There are at least 5 panamanians playing in Europe. Only 3 players from the Panama national league. All others play outside. Not well known players but we are actualy glad no one knows anything about the Panama team. We play better as underestimated underdogs. Great video..........

That last day of CONCACAF matches was my hardest day as a football fan. Brutal knowing I wouldn’t see the USMNT in the World Cup until Qatar at the earliest...hard to get excited about playing in Qatar, plus knew it was the end of the line for a lot of the aging USMNT stars.

And making football pitches available too, here in Kandy there are 0 real football grounds.

    • @Kytota
      @Kytota 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Australia wasn't cheating and they didn't have the authority to change the ref. That was the AFC. And it was Syria who was wasting time on purpose and pretending to be fouled every minute.
However, Syria did play bravely to the end and for that I wish them luck for the next World Cup qualification.

I appreciate very much how you mentioned them explicitly; overall absolutely great video.

I think in the narration was not mentioned more of Panama's qualifying journey. The team qualified just 6 months after Amílcar Henríquez was shot dead. His last match for Los Canaleros was 1-1 draw against USA on 28 March 2017.
Speaking of Syria the fans looked for whatever conspiracies the could make up - from the referee who was replaced in the 90th minute, to the pitch quality in Sydney and even the Socceroos' boots which were "designed for this grass". They have even flooded the FIFA social media pages with their "complaints" and I quote:
"We object to arbitration in the match between Syria and Australia, and refereeing errors and a change of referee and pitch changed the outcome of the match for Australia.
We demand an investigation into the replacement of referee Rafshan Irmatov and his departure at a difficult time in such an important match.
We ask for an examination of the grassland that was not suitable for the Syrian team, while Australian players seem to be wearing shoes that cling to the long grass, so we saw Syrian players fall during the game, while Australia's players are steady."
It's a silly world we're living in, is it?

Brandon Lampert it's weird that Uzbekistan is so close, but not close enough. I was pissed off 4 years ago when Iran beat South Korea just 1:0 and Korea qualified at the expense of the Uzbeks by goal difference, knowing full well that whoever wins the AFC playoffs would have no chance against Uruguay. Then Uzbekistan lost to Jordan who were thrashed by Uruguay later

Great vid as always! Very very minor point, but Xi'an is pronounced in two syllables, kinda like 'shee-an'

Love your content! I wrote a series in Spanish not long ago about improving the World Cup from the qualification system, the draw, to the matchups in the second round. I'd gladly translate it and send it to you if you'd take it!

for a general football fan this was unnecesary detailed and profiled on a couple of games/teams. I expected results and group standings showing up in this video. Not someone telling stories about social struggles affecting the games and hearing stuff about players/coaches the general football fan have no idea who they are. why did u make this so complicated?

I think he means the largest international defeat, because I seem to remember reading that the biggest win in football was in the Scottish league when Aberdeen bet Arbroath 39-0, I could be wrong so correct me if you can!!

AFl GeEk ,aye I'm Australian (Italian background) and I'm am extremely happy to see Australia there and extremely sad to NOT see Italy there. There are about 4 Italian legends who won't see another World Cup in their career. Show a bit of respect...
