@@doulos77 Steve got so funky with that album. It was a totally unique vocal approach to a different genre. I loved it. The Rolling Stones did something similar, with their "Emotional Rescue" album, but it wasn't close to what Journey did on the "Raised On Radio" album. Vocally, Mick Jagger just couldn't compete with Steve Perry.
I thought it was a great album. even loved the cover art of the radio station in the middle of nowhere USA in the middle of the night keeping us company
Who else is still listening to and loving this song and beautiful man in 2024?? So crazy Steve is now 75 years old 🥰🥰 I wish he could stay young forever ❤
@@journeyon2489 I was born in 82 but I literally came out the womb a journey fan 🤣 I remember being 4-6 years old walking around constantly singing OH SHERRI and bugging my mom all day every day to play that song for me 🤣 I know she was tired of me by the end of the day 🤣 she bought me my own journey cassette tape that I would play on my Teddy ruxpin doll 💕💕
At 0:06 seconds when Steve is going up those stairs...to sing in front of so many people! I don't know how he does it! He's so cute though, the look of anticipation on his face. 🤗🥰😍
Y'all do understand, right? That's Neal playin' some funk. You go, Neal. What a loss. What could have been. I really liked the unusual direction Journey was headed in with this album. They reinvented themselves. Nearly every song on the "Raised On Radio" album was a hit. When the "Trial By Fire" album came out, it was dead in the water, except for one hit, "In The Eyes Of A Woman". Ross Valory just didn't have the same "chops" as Randy Jackson on bass, and I don't know what happened to Neal, but Randy really seemed to bring out the funk in him. This track is really funky. I loved it. I wish we could have seen more. More funk and R&B from Journey, a basically white boy band. They had it with this album. It was like something I never heard before except the song, "Play that Funky Music". Journey played this genre of music, Funk and R&B, superbly without making a comedy of themselves. I wish they had a second album with this lineup. It was so refreshing and awesome. The old line up with straight forward rock had run its course. What a loss when Steve left. No more great hits. No more Journey.
Eyes Of A Woman wasn't even close to the best song on that album. Message Of Love and When You Love A Woman are what carried it. And as good as ROR was, i'll take Smith and Valory every time.
@@Sighlense I guess you aren't a musician. The reason they dropped Valory was because of his lack of musicianship. A great bass player can slap the bass. Valory was on live Captured and that was an awesome album. So, I give him credit for that. But, any good bass player should be able to slap the bass and get funky with it. Ross just couldn't do it. I believe he had it in him, but he couldn't let go. The bass needs to be deeply felt. Ross seemed too overly conservative for Journey to grow and cross over like Steve, Neal, and Cain were capable of doing. Don't misunderstand me, Journey is my favorite band. Steve showed some amazing versatility on Raised On Radio. I was so proud of them. Especially, Steve and Neil. I'm sorry that they couldn't keep it together.
@@jrnyfan_57 I just think that Ross was stuck in a particular genre. Steve loved his R&B roots, and I don't think Ross was able to branch out. Steve Perry/ Journey era was a great band, no doubt. I just think that Ross had some personal restraints. Trial By Fire seemed to be a concept album to bring Ross back into the fold. Perry had grunge influences, but I think his best was his R&B influences. They seemed to be his hearts drive. I think that Neil having played with Santana, had that R&B capability. I just wish that Ross was able to branch out. Ross couldn't slap the bass. I think that Trial By Fire was the end of the band. This was obviously true as it was their last album as a band. There were maybe one or two songs on that album that were even close to their greatest. Nothing on that album came close to their Captured Album or Their Greatest Hits album. But, I honor your opinion. I just miss that band with Steve Perry. It was my all time favorite band.

Steve left multiple times and left the band dead. It's actually quite amazing and inspiring what Jon and Neal (and Augeri, Deen, Arnel, etc) have pulled off.
@@The_Jewish_Cowboy Arnel does great with them and because of that they still put on great shows live. Steve really dodged a bullet though since Johnathan Kain and Neal Schon keep suing each other like crazy

Journey Is already one of the biggest bands of the late 70s early 80s rock arena scene.
