I just read an interview with the band about this song and Steve was in the room during mixing after he added his vocal touches. The band wanted to add more of Steve (so you could hear him more) and even asked him to sing a verse or part if one. Steve said no. This version of the song is about your band and not me. I don't want you being a backing band for me. So Steve added his vocal highlights and touches and was happy with it. He also suggested other things in the song for them to do. You can find it on Ultimate Classic rock.
@@lesliedaubert1411 I hear him in the background sometimes repeating the lyrics. I’ve been listening to him since he joined Journey, but I’m no music expert. ❤️
I love this. I wish they did a split ver more with him. This is really good and remember Steve is 75 and I can hear his awesome voice still. I will always be a fan. I hope he does more of this.
Way to Rock it 🎸 Steve Perry is so generous to support The Effect and add his amazing vocals to the track. Brilliant!! I wish I could see the band members faces. Thank you for the creativity and making the song your own. I loved it 🥰
WOW! Any Steve Perry fan can detect his voice in the background! Steve sounds amazing and The Effect did an EXCELLENT job with the song! Thank you gentlemen!!🎵🎶
I'm sitting in creeping traffic when this song comes on radio and all of a sudden I sit up, wait a sec that's Steve Perry! The biggest smile light up my face and suddenly the traffic didn't matter anymore. Thank you Steve!
Love when I find a new band new music, and Steve Perrys collaboration is the icing on the cake. I felt like I was transformed back to the 80’s when rock ballads was so very much part of my music library. Awesome sound!
Just love my Steve Perry always did and I’m so glad that he’s decided to come back ! His fans dearly love and miss him so very much !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s amazing how music does that! It took me back to Ontario California summer of 86. I was in the air academy being trained to be a flight attendant! The memories 🩷🩷
My wife and I (Newlyweds) Living in Key West on Olivia St. I was attending A-3 FRAMP School (Navy training) and she was waitressing at Montgomery Wards. I miss those days. We went to Rota, Spain (VQ-2) soon after.
Congratulations to The Effect for the amazing remake of a beautiul Journey song. Thank you so much for asking Steve Perry to collaborate with you on the back-up vocals and harmonies. I'm a long time Journey and Steve Perry fan and I'm so happy that he's still sharing his beautiful voice. The only thing I wish is that he could have made a cameo appearance in your music video, as it would have been great to see him. Love the song, both the original version and your remake.
I must admit the first time I heard this I was like I can't really hear SP but of course I listened again and it's definitely SP another masterpiece by the one and only StevePerry ❤
This is one of the rare examples that having a deep conversation with the original song. Every time I listened to this and the original one they both sound BETTER. You can feel the distance of time in between, how the painful memories become haunting echoes.
@StevePerry-zw5jn steve I fell in love with yr voice since the 80,s you are still my mentor and I sing like this because of you today mate and i thank you any way what was i saying ahh yes but that's not you singing in that video backings maybe youve always always been my row model and I come from The Rock of GIBRALTAR.
Lol, well put. I was in college when I first heard "Any Way You Want It" and I remember sitting in my car memorized by his vocals.I refused to get out of the car until the song was over. But even though I waited to hear the name/artist of the song, as many times happens to our frustration, no such info was given. A few days later, I was lying in bed with the radio down low before going to sleep and I heard "Who's Crying Now" . Again, I found myself captivated by that haunting voice and melody. Little did I know at the time that it was the same band, same singer! Steve had such a vocal range that as we all know his vocals could sound thin and powerful as in "Anyway" but also at times fuller and just as powerful as on "Who's Cryin' Now" so I honestly never imagined it was the same singer. But I fell in love with both "versions" of his vocal prowess. Once I did find out it was one and the same, I remember thinking to myself, "THAT'S when you know you TRULY like/love something: when you have NO prior knowledge about what you're listening to or seeing...no time or basis for loyalties or pre-judgments...when it's just you and the music, and it makes you stop what you're doing, it pulls you in, enthralls you...And you are never the same." Steve's voice has been the backdrop to so many moments in my life. I can air-guitar every amazing guitar lick of most Journey songs and I would play their albums day and night. Thank you Steve for bringing us so much joy. 😘
As a kid of the 80's, growing up listening to Journey, Toto, Genesis, Phil Collins, and STEVE PERRY...I love y'all. You all take the influences you've grown up with, put your own spin on it, and I'm sold. You make me feel something with the music that I've been missing. Thanks!
If I'm here listening to this band it's because there's the GREAT, UNIQUE STEVE PERRY, the best voice of all time -_!! a wonderful human being who many years ago left the dirty world of the record industry and sat on a motorbike to go away free without constraints!!! I hope to be able to hear Steve Perry in other records, in live concerts ... but it's a dream like the dream of being able to meet him!! I'm over 50, I have 9 pathologies and the journey to come to you is long and expensive, Steve will you come and hug me in Sardinia?
Love the song. The effects version is way beyond what I expected . A not so known journey song turned into something brilliant. Well done guys and please come to Scotland
The more I listen to this song the better it gets. It brings me back to the bands of the '80s with amazing talent and sound! Steve Perry was spot on by only adding his vocals minimally in the background. This song is about this new band who put a cool spin on an old classic.
The Effect, the new rock band the world needs. The 4 songs they released at the moment are spectacular: Unwanted, Something Wrong, Toxic Envy & It Could Have Been You. This is music. If you are reading this start recommending this band to your friends. They are already one of my favorite bands. Trev Lukather, Nic Collins, Emmet Stang, Steve Maggiora: You guys rock. Emmet's voice is the best. All the best for the future. If it starts out this awesome please keep it up. Idols, geniuses and gods
I've always loved this song and never realized why it was not a #1 hit. Been a Steve Perry fan since 1981 and was lucky enough to see Journey in Concert. I love this remake but nobody does it like Steve Perry. He is the greatest vocalist of my generation. Love you Steve.

Think you all, The Effect, did a great job of covering this song - (oh yeah, Steve too by enhancing it by singing background vocals, good job) (think us Steve Perry fans want to know when Steve is maybe going to drop some solo single tracks, maybe - at least this fan wants to know) This was great (and Steve is a genuine genius)! Like the video too.
Love the song!! Always love the effects music. They’ve really put out great songs. I have to admit I’ve never heard this original song from Journey. Steve Perry was amazing on the song. Great job with the video and everyone involved in making it. 🔥❤️🔥🔥
A true Steve Perry can can hear him loud and clear. His voice blends so well with the lead singer Emmett. I saw Journey perform this song live and have always loved it. I never understood why it wasn't released as a single. The Effect did a great job!!

my ONLY complaint is that SP is a little buried in the mix.
Just a little?
A little?? The build up as to SP’s prominence on this track was a “little” misleading
Why even ask Steve to sing on it if you're going to bury it in the mix?
Where are you now? Steve Perry? Buried in this song! 😡 sad….
I can clearly see hear Steve doubling Emmett in the second verse.

The return of the king! Also, refreshing with new rock music that doesn't suck.
Watching til the end you can see that they credit Steve for "background vocals and ad-libs". Taking that literally, id say its EXTREMELY easy to hear Steve's work throughout!
