Sim0nTrains visits Glasgow's Disused Railway Stations

- There are many Disused Railway Stations in Glasgow and while Sim0nTrains was in Scotland, August 2021, decided to spend a day having a look at some of these disused railway stations.
The disused stations in this video are the following, Strathbungo, Paisley Hamilton Street, Paisley Abercorn, Dalmuir Riverside, Crow Road, Kevinside, Ibrox, Govan, Kelvinbridge, Glasgow Buchannan Street and Glasgow St. Enoch
I also regret not putting maps into this video giving you all details on where they are which I do apologise, filmed 20th August 2021

Thank you for watching, I will be honest with you all that I do regret putting maps into this video to give you the locations of where these disused stations are. If I do future videos like this then I shall be adding maps in and end of the day this is a mistake that I shall learn from, I may do this again but focus on the line and revisit some of these Disused Stations, just like to apologise and Happy new year to everyone.
St Enoch was beautiful with a lovely hotel and double level frontage with shops and cobbles. Its destruction was criminal. What you missed at Kelvinside was just over the bridge on top of the tunnel is an old building called Caledonia Mansions which is apartments. This was actually built by the Caledonian Railway as an overspill hotel. If you look at the back you can see how it was built to bring luggage from the trains. At the other side of the tunnel you would have found the Botanic Gardens station which still exists below the park though trains have not run for years.
Kelvinside station definitely looks to be the most beautiful of them all
I've been on that bridge at Kelvinside many times, just were glasgow uni is.
Kelvinside is a nice station.
Was built like a mansion.
@@ametrinemoon You are mixing up Kelvinbridge and Kelvinside. Kelvinside is the lovely looking pub right beside the Gartnavel hospital.
Great tour SimOn . As you might know Glasgow is my home town and I am familiar with all the sites you showed us.
I lived on Vine St which is one block east of Merkland. The original Partick Station was located on the north side of Dumbarton Road on its North side, there used to be a Woolworth Store at that location.
I don’t think you went up the Crow Road line from Partick, there are still some large tunnels.
I think I need to give you some accent lessons as I know friends in Govan who would be upset by your pronunciation- it is GUvan with the emphasis’s on the U
Another Station to look at is the old Partick Central which was situated on Benalder St at Castlebank St.
The station is gone now unfortunately but the line would run west through Partick West Station which I might scratch build

I enjoyed that, thanks - embarassed at driving past Strathbungo staion hundreds of times without realising! I was surprised you went to Partick but didn't show the platforms of Partickhill station which were (last time I looked!) still visible.
Thank you, I did see that they have knocked the building down for the electrification to Barrhead, One of the 2024 plans for a video is to return to Scotland and stop at the stations between Glasgow and Barrhead, Will be planning to return to Strathbungo. I have seen the platforms of the old Partickhill Station as they can be seen from the Hyndland bound platform but only reason I didn't show that I was on the wrong platform but should had done to be honest.
An interesting video here Simon indeed. Definitely something different from you than the norm. Looks like you found sime hidden gems on your adventure which is great to see and look at. Looks like you had good fun. Great video.

Thanks, I considering in doing a round 2 of Disused Stations in Glasgow and Botanic Gardens would be at the top of the list as there plenty of people who have mentioned it.
I enjoyed this video very much, especially your views of Kelvin Bridge railway station on the Great Western Road which is where I used to live. Incidentally, the handsome sandstone building above the site of the station is called the Caledonian Mansions, and was also built by the CR. Great video, many thanks!

You probably went through an older Partick Station between Hyndland and the current Partick station. There used to be some lights and signage still there.
There is a wee bit of Buchanan Station left near the BTP building. It’s just a few courses of sandstone. Have a look in from Port Dundas Rd.
You could have had a look at the Botanic station. It’s the next stop west from Kelvinbridge. It’s below ground but you can easily see down into it from the south east corner of the Botanics. The platforms are still in place. I might have sneaked in to it 25 years ago. There were platforms at Kelvinbridge then too but they’re behind a locked gate so I don’t know if they still exist.
The old Partick Station, that the one next to the current one which you can see from the current station? Wasn't aware that there was remains of Buchanan Station, it was a last minute decision and would had been better research to be honest, Botanic station I heard heard about that Station so when I'm planning another Disused Stations in Scotland video, I take a look, thanks Aedan

There used to be a biggish marshalling yard in Hyndland as late as the mid ‘80s. The houses behind the GWR restaurant are built on it.
Still a wall from Buchanan St Station there and bit of platform retained when bricked over although only one slap with brick work below shown.

I enjoyed this video, those are some beautiful disused stations and I honestly wouldn't be suprised if they do reopen Ibrox station as it's near to the stadium that Glasgow rangers play at.
On matchdays the buses and the Subway cannot cope with the football fans and it is a good idea to reopen the station. Thanks Reuben.
Fantastic vid Buchanan street station tunnel is behind the building at your back to the north.
It runs at that point over the tunnel from queen street.

Great video, Simon! I like the way you did the station histories in this one too. Even though I live near Glasgow, I've never been to most of these disused stations. There is another remnant of St Enoch station at the opposite corner of that car park (on the corner of Osborne St and King St) - there are some old railway arches which formed the other approach into St Enoch

This was a very interesting Vlog indeed Simontrains it’s always nice to discover lost railway lines and stations especially at that station where the platforms where still there and to find that tunnel too was a brilliant discovery I’d say myself i hope that they reopen Ibrox railway station because that would ease the passenger congestion especially on match days overall a brilliant and very interesting Vlog as always keep on being awesome my friend and I look forward to seeing your future Vlogs until then take care and stay safe
You cannot justify a multi-million pound investment for a fortnightly football match. Perhaps if there was a lot more housing in the area it would make sense.

At Buchanan Street, there is an old station wall still visible, as is the Station Bar across the road. It’s the Balgray Tunnel not Balgarry.
You traversed two further disused stations between Glasgow Central and Queen's Park Station, Eglington Street station and the terminus on the South side of the river before Central was build I think. Not sure if it is called Bridge Street, the building which looks flatted is still visible from track side and road side, whereas much of Eglington street has gone with the new motorway. There is a further station at what I call Gorbals Cross.

Would love Glasgow to open up Botanic Gardens station as a visitor piece. It would be good if there was also a walkway theough the tunnels from there to Kelvingrove
Got to admit, even though there is no platforms there anymore, Strathmungo must have been a lovely platform

At crow rd station, when you were looking down onto the station if you turned around and walked up a small footpath you would of saw another tunnel, it’s all fenced off but you can get a good view of it from the footpath
Did you also pass through the remains of Merkland Street on the Subway ?
I'm going to be honest, I didn't even noticed Merkland Street but thinking about doing a Glasgow Subway so next time I have a look when around the Subway
I remember waiting in the queues for 40 minutes to an hour outside Ibrox Stadium for Underground back to city centre but there is bus services aswell but reopening Railway Station wouldn't be bad idea for those live in Paisley or Renfrewshire

Is that were the line is to be electrified to East Kilbride and for ScotRail to use the Class 318, Class 320, Class 334, Class 380 and Class 385 EMUs to operate East Kilbride. Once the line has been electrified.
Strathbungo disused station is part of the East Kilbride line. Not sure on which units will be used once finished
