"THAT MAN..." has a lot to answer for! St Enoch Station (and the adjoining hotel) were magnificent, should never have been destroyed. I travelled from St Enoch down the Ayrshire coast by Steam (I'm ancient, I know...), the glass roof was stunning. Could have, SHOULD have been re-purposed into something like Exhibition/Galleries Space, Entertainment Venue etc.
I guess the trend is that people have realised now that city centre shopping centres don't get as much traffic as they used to, and that shopping centre space is better off being rebuilt into mixed use space
Stumbled across your wee channel. Just wanted to say excellent stuff and keep up the good work. 👍🏻 For a future video, I’d recommend looking into Bridgeton Central. Technically it’s still in the city boundary and it’s the only abandoned terminal which had an electrified service. It was closed in 1979 but the line was used until 1987 (I think) as a maintenance depot. So it makes it possibly the only stretch of abandoned electrified railway in Glasgow.
I think the stone wall in the background of the last shot of this video is all that remains of Buchanan Street station. I think I read on the old HiddenGlasgow forums 15 years ago that these walls used to be part of the platforms themselves.
Definitely check out some of the abandoned west-end stations such as Kelvinbridge, (not the subway station!) Botanic Gardens, Kirklee and Maryhill Central. (secret subway in the big Tesco) Fantastic video nonetheless!
The train station at the botanic gardens is still visible in the park and now is just left to slowly rot although it would be good if this station were to be brought back into use along with station that is or was near the peoples palace. As it would make it easier to get to these places especially when events are on in the likes of Glasgow green and botanic gardens instead of having to mess about with various busses or parking. Although from the few times that I had passed the grill/air vent at Glasgow cross you can occasionally hear a train go by but would be handy if this station were to be re-opened or brought back int ouse assuming that there's anything left of the station that is.
F@*€* Beeching, I was surprised to find out before his cuts Glasgow had the longest tram network in Europe, imagine how different the whole country would be if it wasn’t for him, loved the video btw, if you can get the subway to Bridge street then why walk, I wish it extended to Shawlands, hell, even Eglinton Toll.
Just came across your channel and im binging all your videos, great stuff!
you deserve more attention for these videos man, i can just tell you put alot of work into this. great video though
Thanks for the kind words :)
Great video, really helped me understand the history of our long-gone train stations.
Thank you very much!
Great video.

The old Hyndland/Patrick lines are fascinating
Nice one buddy, always good to let people know what they once had.

Excellent profile of Glaswegian station history. Have you considered doing the Glasgow to Belfast coach/ferry journey by the way?
I'm hoping to do so soon. Got plans to head across the water!
@@SomeoneExplores nice one

Thank you! I actually did have a look at those stations. Feel free to find on the channel page!
