Putting on the gloves before retrieving the ignition key from your pocket is hell annoying. Forgetting to reset the trip metre after you fill up is annoying. Throwing on your dry riding gear inside the house only to walk out of the front door to find that it is lightly raining is really damn annoying. Forgetting to remove your eye glasses before removing your helmet is annoying and painful. • @Wintersdark

All of these. Every one. Right from the start, as soon as you mentioned battery I *knew* it would be from those fucking square nuts that always tip at a slight angle or get pushed down a bit to far or whatever else. I actually have a spare battery because I'm a moron who leaves his keys in his bike and it turned on regularly, so I've had to swap and fix batteries a lot. I'm so, so familiar with that. There's a solution!
Take the battery out of the bike. Unthread the bolt until it's flush with the bottom of the nut. Hold the bolt with the nut pulled tight against the battery terminal, and squirt some hot glue/etc/silicone/rolled up electrical tape/anything underneath the nut. This way it can't move, and is always right easy to thread in to.
Hot glue is my favourite for this, it lasts longest and is easy to remove with a bit of heat should you ever need to.
Never struggle to thread those bolts into the terminal again.

I’m on my 22nd bike, 30+ years of riding.
I have given in and purchased a Goldwing and accepted my position in life as uncle hi-viz.
I have also spent probably 30 minutes of my life over the past year panicking when my Goldwing wouldn’t start because the Killswitch is a fucking dial like device and if you bump it one way or another the bike doesn’t start. It is the only bike I have ever accidentally hit the Killswitch on because all the others are massive red rocker buttons. I just have never accidentally depressed and not realized it.
But that Goldwing has sent me into a panic multiple times.

Simple tip for the battery terminals I've used on every bike I own that has a battery (all six of 'em):
Take the vent tube that comes with your new battery, or a comparable vinyl hose. Clip a short length off it, maybe 3/4", or however wide your terminal is. Now, take the nuts of the battery, slide them into the terminal, and stuff the bits up tube underneath.
When the bolts are out, the tubing holds the nuts nice and tight to the top of the battery terminal. When you put them in, the bolt squishes them down, ready to pop back up when the bolt comes back out again.
Simple, cheap, easy, and works like a charm.

Unscrewing two tiny screws that hold on a bit of air cleaner trim. One drops and doesn’t hit the floor. It’s somewhere in the frame. I spent 15 minutes blowing the area with compressed air hoping I could force it out, but no luck.
I wrote it off as lost. About a week later I returned from a ride. I pulled in the garage and put the kick stand down. Darned if that little sucker didn’t fall out and land on the floor as I was looking down.

cleaning chain lube off the rear wheel was a pain till I tried $3 lemon furniture polish from the dollar store. Crap just wipes right off and the furniture polish helps resist dust as well. Same furniture polish works as a spray and shine for the bike as well as the helmet and wind screens. For the battery spin the little bolt with a mechanics magnet and it will draw the little nut right up to the bolt and thread on.

    Solution to Thing 1:
    Kick start.
My buddy's 2022 Harley had a dead battery a few months ago, and I reminded him *that* was *exactly* why I don't want a newer, EFI bike.
Then he bought a 2017 too, and its battery went flat after about a week.
Kick start. My XS650 doesn't give a darn how many volts or amps are in the battery, it fires on the first kick every single time above freezing, and the third kick below. Every. Single. Time.

It's winter, you've got a ton of gear on, you start riding and realise you forgot to put your ear plugs in!! That really is annoying. Or while working on your VTR you drop an airbox screw, it's falls into the v off the engine. Put a dab of grease on it, set it down, used the screw driver to line it up, and the grease holds it in place. The other thing that's hit that's different is they use Loctite on everything! Quickly learned if you don't want to bugger up those "phillips" screws trying to remove them then you'd better get a set of JIS screwdrivers. That was a new one on me!

Regarding forgetting heat shrink wrap there's a product called "Solder seal wire connector" It includes a solder, wrap, water proof connector in 1 convenient product and you only need a heat gun to install. Works great and much easier!
And great list, I especially hate those battery terminal connectors and how the rectangle part can fall out easily when you unscrew the bolt. Why don't they just change the design so it will hold the rectangle part? To get around this after I disconnect all connections I then install the bolt again so nothing will fall out when i remove the battery.

I have an Electraglide and have changed the battery, I must add that in order to install the terminals there is a 3/4 round "D" shaped spacer that goes on the outside between the terminal and the terminal block on the battery. If you substitute ANYTHING for that, the terminal will vibrate loose on a long ride. On my Harley it will make the engine cut out, make the ammeter act crazy, and damage the voltage regulator if you dont fix it fast enough. On a Sturgis run from south Texas, on the way back i was 200 miles from home and this very issue occurred. I have gear in my back seat, and on all of my saddle bags. Hell getting the seat off. Its happened more than once i am ashamed to say.

    CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT:
Do twisting and braiding instead of solder and crimp splices.
Fun fact! 2 dissimilar metals in the presence of an electrolyte (humidity alone can be an electrolytic source) creates a process known as galvanic reaction.
Anyone ever noticed green corrosion after some time has passed located at the location of a soldered or crimp spliced joint?
    Galvanic reaction.
(If splicing a zinc & a copper wire crimp or solder away. You're fuct anyway and soldering/crimp splicing is a better joint.)

For the battery screws I use fork terminals on some of the accessory wires. I can start the battery screw, then slip in the forks, then finish tightening the battery screw.

I've put a colour on my 10mm socket. Plus I'm Aussie so we predominantly use metric 😀 But yeah, I can relate to most of these things. The battery: Combine all the extra accessories into 1 or 2 eyelet terminals. Also, go buy different lenght battery terminal screws / bolts and extra nuts. Use some tape to stop the nuts from falling out. Some batteries lie down and can be a real B.

Forgetting to take your sunglasses off before you put your helmet on. On bikes with 1 front disk, the first and sometimes only fork seal to start leaking is on the disk side thus schmoozing your front brake.

Oh no was my thought untill I remember my bikes lights only comes on AFTER I had the bike running .. turned on the bike and the modul and lights worked as intended :D yay! from pure gut wrenching panic to entirely happy :D

    1) Use the right tools. Put the screwdriver away and use a hex driver. Pay attention to what you are doing. Profit.
    2) It is what it is, practice makes things easier.
    3) Crimping is better where there might be vibration. If you have to solder, build a routine so you don't forget steps.
    4) Keep spare hardware. If you have the service manual for your bike they often have a hardware list. Just put a box together with several of every size. Replace what you use ahead of time. Some bolts shouldn't be reused, keep plenty of those on hand. Problem solved.
    5) Keep your tools organized and you don't lose them. If the spot is empty you haven't put it away yet it's time to double check.
    6) Disable kickstand kill switches. They are evil and unnecessary if you have real skills.
    7) Put your gear on in the same order every time and you tend to forget steps less often. Don't let yourself get lazy about it and short cut.
    8) Filling your tank isn't that complicated. Lift, let it drip, put a paper towel from he windshield washing station under the nozzle, put it away. If they are out of towels, that's why you keep a rag on the bike.
Life gets easier when you use your head for something other than a hat rack.

At least in your state, you don't have evap cushions that need to be pressed to dispense the gas from the pump. Push that spring back with one hand, while also balancing the nozzle over the tank and pulling the trigger with 2 fingers to avoid the early cutoff. Hope you do it right or the lever will go limp and smack your fingers. A lot of extra work just to get that extra 5 miles before I have to fill up again.

I replaced the indicators on my bike that I've had for about 12 years now - someone pinned out they thought they were illegal here. Previous owner had installed them. The connections were just taped with electrical tape. When I pulled the tape off, the two rear ones were just two male bullet connectors placed side by side then taped up. Very surprised they lasted that long, the number of times I've had the fairings off, messed with the regulator rectifier right next to them etc.

Don't use electrical tape. Use Nitto No. 11 rubber tape. It is self-amalgamating, which means that it sticks to itself and forms a solid rubber sleeve around the connection. Has to be cut off, won't unroll.

Holy shit, I just went through this Friday & Saturday. I put my bike up for sale (2014 ZX6R ABS) and got more interest than I expected. I put in a new battery, have tons of accessories so I spent 6 hours making sure they all worked. I was up till 3am Saturday morning just to give up. I spent 3 hours trying to get my front brake reservoir to clear my double bubble Windscreen with my 2" Riser clip-ons. So I finally get it all back together, 2 hours past the time he was supposed to be there and he never showed up. I was kinda relieved, because I was done for the day. I've done this dozens of times. The bike is in immaculant condition. I swapped in the factory rearsets and took off my Driven Racing rearsets. Well when I did this, I switched to a Rear Left-Hand Thumb Brake (car accident in Dallas years ago; I can't use my right foot all that well anymore) and I can't find the odd sized banjo bolt to my ABS pump. I had used a normal length banjo bolts with my steel braided lines. The factory one uses a longer banjo bolt because the OEM line has a riser on it to clear the other lines on the ABS pump. Then I couldn't find the right length shift rod. Still haven't figured out how to clear the brake fluid reservoir yet. How the bolt hole is angled & these risers & Puig Double Bubble W/S, makes it very difficult. Lost a couple 10mm sockets too
