    Thanks for the walk-thru. It was very helpful. The Troy-Bilt Storem 28" 277cc 2-stage blower looks like the 2-stage cousin of this guy. All the controls and component placement is identical.

      That’s good to hear. I have a big driveway on a hill abs also need to go next door to do the neighbor’s driveway which is a couple hundred yards away so I needed something I can drive across the yard in snow. The tracks should help. My luck will be this year, I only get a dusting of snow and won’t even be able to try it it. 😅

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      @willy david so far so good. Though I admit where I live, I don’t have to use it very often.
      We could get 12 inches of snow, or just a dusting, just depends on the year. There’s too much driveway to clear and it’s on a hill, so if it’s more than I can blow off with a professional, large, backpack blower, leaf blower from Stihl for example, I need some other way to clear the driveway and that’s where the cub cadet comes in.

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      @willy david the reason I like to use a backpack blower on my concrete driveway if it’s only 3 inches deep or less and it’s fluffy snow is because it does a faster job and it cleans it all the way down to the concrete (completely clean) whereas with any walk behind snowblower, you’re going to leave some snow on the driveway and snow that gets packed down when you drive over it and try to scrape it off with the snowblower.

    About the transmission rod It usually tells you right in the manual how to set that up to get the gears to work right.
    For instance in the Toro manual for their products they tell you to put The gear shift in R2, Then you put the rod in the bottom first with the cotter pin, Then you pull the rod all the way up till it can't go anymore Then you unscrew that piece until it reaches the hole in the gear shift then you put the cotter pin in.
    This will set you up for everything to be perfect.
    If the first gear is too fast which a lot of people have an issue with All you have to do is get that top piece where the rod spins You want to turn it clockwise two or three turns.
    This makes the friction wheel on the friction desk be in a different place which will slow down first gear and actually make the reverse gears a little quicker.
    When you do any adjustment to that rod it'll change the speed in all of the gears so if you slow down first gear by turning it clockwise all the gears will be slower going forward but the reverse gear will be a little bit quicker
    Hope that explains how it works.. It's just putting the friction disc on a different spot on the friction wheel

    For the steering to work properly you need a little resistance pushing against the machine like as you are going against snow. Just using it on bare ground it basically freewheels and coats so you need to pull back slightly on the handlebar in the direction you want to turn.

      The comment about how it turns was made regarding how it turns on the grass (I bought it in summer and just wanted to drive it around and get familiar with it), but that’s not really relevant because that’s not a real world situation of how it’ll be used. I realized during my first winter of use that it actually turns very easily when you’re using it with snow on the ground.

      Yeah....I bought it in summer so I thought I'd do the review (overview really) while I still had all the info fresh in my mind, after getting it setup and adjusted. Once winter comes, it's hard for me to find a good time to actually do a video while the sun is out because I usually have to clear the driveway before sunrise and we don't get lots of snow here, so my opportunities are less. I'd still like to get a nice daytime snow clearing video though.

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly haven't had the chance to use it very often because we just don't get enough snow here often enough to use it. I only use it when the snow is too heavy or too deep for my backpack blower. That being said, so far I've had no problems at all with it. It doesn't throw snow very far if you only have a few inches, but if you have a lot of snow, WOW...it throws it very far. Traction is great. It pulls up my hills with no problem at all. I do two driveways. Mine and the neighbor. Mine is about 300 feet long (concrete) and the other one is about 200 feet with a large parking area. It has done well there. No issues.

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so. What I understand is that it's a relationship Cub Cadet/MTD has with a Chinese engine manufacturer. I've only had the chance to use the new machine twice and haven't had a chance to make a video of it in use, but I'm hoping for some heavier snow this season so I can make a video. Regarding the engine, everything looks well made and sturdy to me and it runs great. I imagine as long as it's maintained well it'll last for many years for me.

    • @robertknight4672
      @robertknight4672 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePhotographyHobbyist it also looks like they requested engine manufacturer add shut-off function to the throttle lever making it very similar to the old Tecumsah snowblower engines. Some of the cheaper snow blowers you don't even get a throttle anymore.

      @@robertknight4672 Yes, if you move the throttle lever all the way to the right if you were standing behind the snowblower, that will turn off the engine. It doesn’t do very well with slush, sometimes it will just sort of use out of the opening but I haven’t had any mechanical problems at all, I’ve been pretty hard on it and it is been working as expected as far as I can tell. If you check the forecast for the Cincinnati area and see what we got yesterday and today, you’ll see what I’m dealing with.

The sleet basically became ice under the snow. In the future I would like to sell my zero turn mower and walk behind snowblower and replace it with a four-wheel-drive lawn tractor from John Deere with a snowblower attachment on the front and the option to have tire chains. For what we get around here, even several inches of snow would be easy to remove with a PTO powered brush on the front of the mower so I’m thinking about that because I live on a hill and that would clean the driveway really well down to the pavement. I’ve seen other people using them here on TH-cam and it looks like it works great and there would only be a few special scenarios where it wouldn’t work for me.

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist

      It's pretty easy. It weighs just a couple hundred pounds. I keep it in my basement, so as soon as I get it over the ledge and past the door, I turn it off and then pull or push it by hand wherever I want it. Not bad at all. It's obviously not as easy to move around like a wheeled version (not running I mean). If pushing in a straight line, it's pretty easy. If turning, I shift it to get it to the angle I want and then keep pushing or pulling to get it where I want it. Assuming you only need to move it 20 feet or so, it's not bad.

  • @muzikmon2267

    Do you really need something this complicated in advanced.
    The best snowblower for the money that outperformed all of them was the Toro snowblower the 826 was the number one and the number two was the 828 in all tests.
    No tracks. The weigh a lot less. Easier to maneuver, They work perfectly with the tires they have go up any hills And of course the amazing customer support, easy to fix snow blowers, that lasts forever by Toro..
    Not to mention THE ANTI-COGGING SYSTEM THAT REALLY WORKS NEVER ONCE HAS IT CLOGGED EVER!! That system also puts less pressure on the belts, and the motor because it recycles the snow to lighten it up before it's thrown so it actually gets thrown father.
    NO SHEAR PINS ON THE TORO SNOWBLOWERS REALLY WORK WITH THE HARDENED GEARS!! It happened to me I was snow blowing and the auger smacked right into a old rim that was under the snow it was a car rim so it was aluminum big and heavy. The machine stopped immediately I started the machine back up again and on I went.. no damage no shear pins no wasting time.. It really works it's ingenious.
    Then of course some people just buy the Taurus snowblowers for their best shoot control THE QUICK STICK!! IT IS TRULY AWESOME AND EASY.. they've perfected it and it last for the life of the machine.. You just have to do a little maintenance making sure everything is working properly..
    And they also have an automatic differential auto steering. The steering does it automatically for you You don't need any levers and you can do a zero turn.
    Another good thing Toro does that Ariens tries to claim longevity.. with an Ariens you have thicker metal.. But that doesn't necessarily translate to being stronger or lasting longer. Toro uses thinner metal to bring down the weight of the product to be more maneuverable But the metal is special made to be just as strong but to be thinner. I forget what the process is called.
    In other words Torah was always innovating trying to make things better they understand what matters and what doesn't.. their parts are always be available, Customer service is great, very easy to fix..
    Those two snow blowers can handle absolutely anything if you see the videos that's why they won in all the tests.
    And the parts are available for Toro basically forever. And they're not expensive..
    Unfortunately club cadet I think is made by MTD which is known for having a lot of issues..
    Also three stage snow blowers from what I understand how much harder to maintain. They even recommend don't doing it yourself with the three-stage and give it to a service center I don't know why but there's got to be something to it
    And they don't necessarily perform better than two stage.
    Just some advice..
    The only advantage to that one I can see over the Toros I mentioned Was that it has that thing that lifts it up automatically If you're doing gravel or cement. But Toro has more expensive models that do that also..
    Most of the time if you set the skids to a 1/4 of an inch sometimes 1/2 If you have a combination gravel and cement driveway. Those measurements will take care of and work well with just about any surface..
    It comes standard I'm the factory usually at 1/8 of an inch off the ground with the skid shoes..

      @ThePhotographyHobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re only removing 3 inches or so of snow and you’re not going fast, that’s true. It only throws it out 5 feet or so. Just depends. Sometimes less than that. Depends on the snow type and how deep it is. BUT if you’re plowing though 6 inches or more of snow, oh boy! It shoots it out really far (20 feet or more). It seems to all be about the volume of snow.

    • @ecoboostrules9795
      @ecoboostrules9795 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hooked on Photography you think 20 feet is oh boy wow alot. Its pathetic. What is 20 feet. That's what mine did at most. Big 30" blower and a 375cc engine that doesn't bog down and all it can do is 20 feet!! The cub cadet throwing distance is pathetic. All the cubs are the same from what I've seen and the more I talk to people that have different sizes. Now I have a toro 1232. 32 inches wide and same size engine as my cub. I went through the same spot in the snow. About 15 inches deep. Cub threw about 15 feet, toro would guess at least 50 feet if not more. Now that's a snow blower. I liked everything about the cub accept the throwing distance its pathetic. Will never buy another cub unless they change there throwing.

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m just guessing. I’d have to stop and think about the distance. It may very well be more. It very easily could have been 30. Bottom line is that for me, it does what I need it to do, which is remove snow on my long hill of a driveway that I can’t do by hand or with our JD 4120 tractor because it’s too steep and dangerous for that. I don’t normally get tons of snow. The Cub (for me) seems built more than good enough and I’ve had zero problems so far after two winters. Granted, it’s not heavily used but it works when I need it to.

      @@ecoboostrules9795 looking at the impeller on this unit, the blades of the impeller seem to be about an inch away from the wall of the housing so I’m just assuming that’s the reason why it won’t through snow very far until you get much more snow built up inside. I’m not sure what the design rationale is for that and what other brands look like as far as the spacing of the impeller to the wall of the housing but it seems to me that’s the reason why it’s not throwing snow farther until you have a lot more snow.
