    I would have liked to have seen the one stage, two stage and three stage in action throwing snow, both wet snow and the fluffy stuff. That would have sold me. Actions speak louder than words.

    Features that are lacking in todays snowblowers are 1- thicker steel auger housings. Todays snowblower are flimsy when it comes to chewing through tough drifts and frozen snowroid chunks that the snow plows leave behind. 2- Augers are to small for deep snows. 3- Impeller clearance is too far from the housing to handle wet slushy snow which clogs up the shoot. I've measured some of the clearances on these new machines and some are as far out as 1/2 in. That's why they give you a special tool for clogged shoots. Check out some snow blowers from the past like the Craftsman Drift Buster. Large bottom auger with the addition of a smaller auger at the top of the housing. Ice and snowroid chunks never stood a chance. Thick steel housing that didn't flex when attacking drifts and what the snowplow left behind at the end of your driveway.

    I'll stick with my Ariens. When I was comparing the two (Cub cadet vs Ariens) I was surprised at the build difference. Twice as many welds and just felt heavier duty built. However, that is a pretty nice (and convenient) service that Cub cadet offers.

    This is the second winter with my 3x30 HD from Cub Cadet. Only issue I can see is with these carburetors. I now only run Aspen 4 fuel in mine. Has handled wet snow and lighter snow very well. No clogging issues. My neighbor purchased a new Ariens the same time. Nice machine, but water gets inside of the housing where the pulleys are and the drive belt does not align straight, between pulleys. Strange design. He hasn't had any issues yet, though. I'm pleased with my purchase. I live in a cul-de-sac and the town does a horrible job down at this end, so I needed a bigger unit. My old snapper 7/24 lasted 25 years.

    I live in the North East in Boston. We get all types of snow; fluffy and light (not often) and wet and heavy. I have a two stage Ariens Compact 24 and it does not cut it! As soon as the snow turns wet, the machine clogs, stops throwing, and makes life miserable. I need something with balls! What do you suggest?

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hate my 3-stage machine but I will say that the ONE thing it does better than my 2-stage is throwing wet snow. I'm in Boston too and a few years back (can't remember exactly) we had a snow storm that turned to rain. I had over a foot of soggy snow. My 2-stage clogged up immediately and just sort of oozed slush out of the chute and it just fell on top of the machine. The 3-stage actually threw it about 20 feet which saved the day for me.

      It is a good snowblower, but it jammed up on me with wet snow...I got mine from a local dealer....Honestly, I have a mid-90's red MTD two stage snowblower with a 10hp motor and it is a beast...It doesn't have the fancy heated grips or the power steering but it is so easy to spin around...That is my main snowblower...lol

    • @eosjoe565

      @@gospos1Same here. I have a MTD 2-stage 12 HP 33-inch that I bought new in the mid 90's that is still going strong. It is very basic. You move a lynch pin to select one wheel drive or two wheel drive. I've had tire chains on it since new. About the only maintenance it has required is a new rubber drive tire every 10 years or so.

    Does the 3 stage do a better job than a 2 stage? Or may I say is a 3 stage proven to be the best?

    • @nodak81
      @nodak81 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience, absolutely not. I have two 30-inch machines that are identical except one is a 2-stage and the other is 3-stage and about 7 years newer. The 2-stage can run circles around the other one. It just doesn't want to eat snow, it prefers to just push it like a plow which then just builds up in front of it until it can't push any more.

      I bought a 2x 24" a few years ago or so and I've been using it to clear snow for myself and the last 2 years also my clients (I serve my community through cutting grass and snow removal). I have a herniated disc in my lower back, so shoveling for my clients the first few years or so went well but it was hindering me each year that passed and then I started using my snow thrower which was awesome but after last year, I was done! It worked well but it sat low for me (roughly 6'4"). With my back, it was torture! February hit, I was done, I said no and went to upgrade but they didn't have any brand new ones and it just didn't feel right to go with the 2x 26" used one that just got in. So I said screw it, I'll just get through this.
      September came, they received 1 3x 28" (what I've been drawn to ask summer when looking at them), and I was sure to make it known it was going to be all mine, haha. Sure enough, after a $250 trade in from my 2x and a push mower, $1,250.xx later, I now own a 3x 28" and I can't express the excitement I have for this snow season, the most I've ever had and I've been so excited for nearly every snow season the last decade.
      A key feature with the 4x vs the 2x, I was watching a video and the 2x likes to rise up because of the direction the augers do. The 3x seems to stay more grounded with the center auger which will be very very nice!

      Ps
      I forgot to put why I mentioned the price. Doing the math of how many clients in looking to have this winter, I'm looking to earn what I spent on my new snow thrower within the first 3 snow falls. Not to mention the relief this week provide for my back, a true blessing!

    You really need to go to a store and handle one. The balance of the machine makes it easyer to use. A 30 inch may be easyer to use than a 28 inch. You also need power steering or a diff to easy make a turn. I have one were the tires turn the same speed all the time. Meaning there locked and a real pain to make 180 angle turns. Plus when moving it on dry concrete is a real pain and really hard on your shoulders and arms.

    Manhandling the machine back and forth is in fact a terrible idea on these machines. I have the cub cadet 2x 30 Max, and the thin weedy little snap rings that is all that's holding the axle bearings in failed and the wheels came off. Really disappointed when I took off the panel and saw these fragile pieces of rubbish in such a critical place in what is otherwise a very good machine. Just super cheap and completely unnecessary as a hog ring would have done the job right for maybe a few pennies more.
