Lawful ideals described in 5e are usually about giving yourself a code that fits into a larger society, which means they can come into conflict much more easily. Chaotic ideals tend to be more self-centric, without involving to many others. Take for example tradition (L), fairness (L), and creativity (C). Historically, the struggle between those two lawful ideas have been one of the most prominent, take for example the history of monarchism and republicanism. This cant be said as much for creativity, although there were probably some instances.
