    First of all, all of these are so cool!! I love the blue one, of course. Secondly, thank you so much for pushing a little bit against the unjustified uproar of “Seiko raising prices”🙏🏻👌🏻. In most cases the price is reasonable and still attainable, for almost everyone.

    I personally prefer the bead-blasted case finishing to give the watch a more tool-ish look.

      Me too, I already got the SRPG37 and I love the case. For a daily tool watch, the blasted finish is the best. Home they will come up with other variants of this new dial, it looks great

    Seiko is going on his move to middle -price segment. They will give up cheap watches soon wich is a real pity and à bad strategy in my opinion. I hope they dont discontinue the old model.
    Also their saphir crystal is crazy reflective. It’s much worst leagibility than hardlex and give the watch a cheaper look even if the material is more expensive. They use it in all their recent watches and it’s terrible. Why TH-cam reviewers never say it?
    I’m very disapointed with seiko and their last productions i think they are loosing their soul and l’m more and more looking towards Orient.

    People also tend to forget about how JPY rate moving drastically these ten years. To balancing out costs/salary/tax/income around oversea market, factories and currency, they had to ditch old models and review their prices at some point.

    • @michaelb9303

      Around ten years ago the exchange rate was about 80 yen per dollar. It is now about 115 yen per dollar. That is a weakening of the yen of around 40% over the ten year period. Put another way, a dollar sold in 2012 returned 80 yen to Japan. Today, it returns 115 yen.
      The JPY rate change since 2012 has been great for Seiko.

    Seiko is a huge world wide company. Their mass produced movements and variants are all pretty much identical. I think it's time that they invested in a newer, thinner design. They make so many that over time, they would easily recoup their costs. That would allow them to compete more with Miyota and ETA in terms of watch thickness. A millimeter or two makes quite a difference when you think it is 10-15 percent of the watch thickness.

    • @khairulhelmihashim2510
      @khairulhelmihashim2510 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Marc, no matter how many times you say it, and others too, there are still to many people who don’t understand and always point out how Seiko raised prices to those days of Seiko pretty much getting out of control with the distribution channels and production probably. Seiko was basically Invicta. That said, many of what Seiko came up with these days still get big discounts at least in Easter Europe where I am. • @ookamikuroi6902
    @ookamikuroi6902 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Incorrect, the price in the box is "the suggested price" by the brand, in this case seiko, and as a suggested price it is a retail price, not "the sale price", which commonly is around half price of the retail one, so if it was retail as 180 dlls then sale price would be around under or little above 90 dlls.
    That explains why the price of the prior seiko 5 field watch was around 65 to 85 dlls when it was top sale, the new seiko 5 field watch is retailed at 275 dlls, this means the sale price will be between 125 -145 dlls. As an introduction it could be as high as 200 dlls, but price will go down until it reaches that margin.
    Mark my word!!!

A lot of brands have largely lost their amazing value prop (Seiko and Sinn come to mind) but prices are not unfair, just not what we are used to. If that new field watch is available for $150 or $175, this is still a really good deal. I think the new watch is also made in Japan. Also, a Hamilton with similar features is $500 or $600. This watch is still a good deal. I am mostly disappointed that the crown is not at its normal Seiko 5 location. Why would Seiko move away from this, it is unique to them, and it makes the watches look sleeker. This new watch shows how good the looks of the snk was. The original release of this new field watch was not as good looking, looked off. Add the SNK dial styling and instantly the watch looks better.

    I tried on that solar diver (a different coloured one) a few months back at an AD and it was almost perfect. It looks awesome and fits perfectly on my tinny wrist!! Unfortunately i was looking for an automatic watch since all my watches have been quartz. It would have been my go to watch or my one watch collection had it not been a solar/quartz.

    You are a very patient person with some of these comments, Marc. They should teach this skill in Business 101.

    A great presentation. Truth is, Seiko has so many models with so many generations, it's hard for the lay person to keep up with it all - so this is a welcome update. You mentioned, in passing, another development: in the backwash of Covid, folks are moving away from gray market to legitimate vendors (like yourself). This has a parallel in the car world. Within a couple of years, buyers will simply show up at the dealership and order their new car - and pay for it. The endless quest for the 'super deal' will end - to the benefit of both buyers and car makers. Industries can't survive and prosper if everyone is trying to get something for free - or less than the other guy. The US can learn from Japan and Europe.

    Nice looking watches but why can't Seiko lume the triangle at 12 on the new "809" series?

    For me anything over $150 and definitely $200 should have sapphire. And the Diver at almost $500 definitely should have a milled clasp and solid endlinks. Thats the problem with Seiko, the value isnt 100% there. They get close, but then leave out basic features we’ve come to expect at the price point. Features offered by most other brands.... and thats not even mentioning the QC gamble with chapter rings and bezel alignment

    I hope this doesn't mean they are cancelling the SNK models. This seems a lot closer to the SRPG in comparison than the SNK....

    My 1st auto back in 2014 was a snk809 for $55 a few years later I scored the beige snk803 for $30 off a flash sale. Put a sick domed sapphire on it. A different time.
