I love how candid your videos are. I started watching your IB videos when I had just left after trying so hard to get in from a non-target school and minimal connections. I thought I had reached the dream when I got in but I only lasted a year. I was so hard on myself and felt regretful as soon as the day after. I still feel it sometimes and it’s been 3 years now. After watching this video and how you’ve been able to give up such high level roles and still keep your head up by looking forward, it is inspiring. It sounds like you’ve got a plan and are in a good headspace. I wish you tons of luck and I’ll be tuning in to see where the journey goes next!
I relate to that so much, it's easy to be hard on ourselves when hindsight is 20/20. I think the scary thing about aging is your life becomes concrete vs when you were a student and the future was all potential and not yet reality. You begin to have a concrete track record that you and other people judge you by, which is scary! But that said, something I'm learning is it's ok to go down a different path than the one your younger self would've wanted, because you are constantly evolving as a person. In college I would've been certain that 3 years after graduating I would still be in finance, and sometimes I do wonder what would've happened if I stayed the tried and true path of 2 years IB + 2 years PE. The pedigree and prestige sounds nice, but deep down I don't think I would be any more happy or fulfilled. If anything I probably never would've started this channel.
Wishing you the best, you’ve been a huge inspiration! I’ve really appreciated how you’ve made such an effort to reach out and engage with your community.
Really like how at 10:50 you can see the top of the floral you made on a whim and are taking home -- kind of like a metaphor showing that what you end up taking away from a huge corporate job are the small, meaningful memories you make along the way
As a graduating senior who will begin management consulting soon, I truly appreciate your videos! Your content is by far one of the most genuine and relatable that I've seen among gen-z professionals. Excited to continue following your journey!
I feel like I've grown with you in my perceptions and thinking of work, life, 20somethings. Thank you so much for being so raw and authentic. Excited to keep seeing your views grow as you experience more
Thank you Matt for all the day in the life and consulting tip videos! It has really helped with consulting prep for Bain. Good luck with whatever you decide to do in the future. I will continue to support the channel no matter your decision ❤
Matt you re such an inspiration, you always have a genuine smile on your face and this already means a lot. It's gonna be difficult for someone like you not to achieve joy and fulfilment not only from a professional perspective. I wish you good luck with your next steps and hope to see a new update video soon ;)
Hey Matt, all the best with your future endeavors. Leaving behind something you've invested so much time in is always beyond difficult but your positive mindset towards the future is what I've seen almost all of your videos and tells me that you'll do great things after BCG. Congrats!
Your videos have been of great help to me, wishing you all the best in this next chapter! Made it to final round interview for consulting now next week, hope your videos continue to help people get offers! All the best Matt
I'm pretty much you from a couple years ago. I'm about to start a new job (very similar firm) , nervous yet excited. I love hearing your reflections and have honestly learned a lot from you. You have built a community and what you do is important. Best of luck on your next step and don't forget to have a little fun in the interim!
Best of luck in your new role! It was amazing following your journey in consulting and I have no doubt that you’ll reach a greater level of fulfilment in your career and life in the future.
Wow Matt! What a thoughtful video, I remember feeling the same bittersweet and sentimental feeling when I left EY after 4 years, happy to try something new but sad to leave some of the great people. And writing the mass goodbye email is always a staple. Best of luck in your next chapter!
Amazing video Matt once again! Very well said and I love your content - so real and very good insights into the professional world. Excited to see what you get up to next!
I must say, being a few years behind you, it’s super interesting to follow your journey and also your inner monologue about feelings you have on a shiny but probably often lonely career choice such as being a consultant at BCG. I can 100% resonate with your melancholy for this step, I have it at any big move in life (leaving high school, leaving college, after every internship, and with relationships). It probably feels weird in the moment, but I am very curious what your next step is. I guess it’s normal that you worry about others expecting to see a progress after every career step, but who knows, maybe a step down is what you need for a while to refine your spark for work. Whatever you pick, I’ll watch and I am excited for you, bc we grow with every new chapter no matter what!
10:11 matt you are not only just getting started with this channel, but your future and career as well. And i just know that no matter what your next move will be I’m sure that you’ll excel at it with the great potential that you have i mean just look at what you have already accomplished so far. Wishing you all the best in your journey and Also remember your community will always be there to support you 🤍
All the best to your next journey! I have been digesting your case interview guides and improved my level a lot. I am sure BCG taught consultants a lot about handling ambiguity so you will be successful in any career paths!
I wish you the best! You inspire me to get into consulting (I’m starting on August!) and also starting my own TH-cam channel! Future definitely will give you what you want and deserve!
I am an undergraduate. I got to know what consulting is through your videos and started preparing for a consultant position at any one of the MBBs following your videos. Started following you recently(soon after I saw one of your videos). Your videos are pretty good. Now I see you are leaving this job, it makes me a bit sad but I know you made a decision by considering what is good for you. I hope you keep posting videos. And take good care of yourself. We will be with you on this journey.
Thanks bro, I really love this content. This video well express the practical experience of our real life. I love the way your present day to day activities of your job. Keep going.
All the best man! I would recommend taking a few months off to travel. It will make you feel refreshed and you will see some amazing stuff! Although, at least for me, after a while it will get a bit boring, posting pictures will get a bit hollow, and you'll probably feel like you want to work and contribute to the world. Hopefully you can find an industry/job that you can become passionate about!
Crazy, Matt. I was recommended your channel when I was considering leaving medicine to pursue MBB consulting and/or BB IBD. McK APAC office only takes on 5 new grads a year, most from Oxbridge, so I'm aware of how exclusive/prestigious your job is. But I continued following your videos b/c I realised we are more similar than I initially thought: young, ambitious, and a little lost. Congratulations on mustering the courage to leave - sometimes quitting is harder than getting in - and wishing you all the best. Will continue following.
Next steps could be content creation and starting a business that works with helping people to "break into" IB and Magt consulting. Wish you all the best bro. I think your strategy is unique since you have experience from both worlds as compared to the many content creators on these areas who have experience in just either consulting or IB but make content on both sides.
Hey Bro, Great work man 👏👏 Keep it up and keep growing 💗💗 But as a friend or your subscriber i suggest you that you should hire a professional video editor. The editing quality of video need a lot of improvement. Plz focus on this!
Hi, Matt, so are you going to leave the consulting area or just this company? Another of my favorite content creators left BCG a couple of months ago and you both made me think whether there's something wrong with this company? Anyway, hope you are doing everything well.
Hey xinwei, I assume you’re referring to Taylor Bell who also left recently. There’s nothing wrong with BCG (I actually think it’s a great option) but consulting is just a very demanding job to begin with and after a year or 2 it’s very clear whether you’d want to stick around long term. I’ll be leaving consulting and client advisory behind as I start a new corp strategy role at Google - hope this helps!
Hey Rakesh - there's not 1 "best job" for young professionals. It's a combination of (1) what you're good at or most interested in, (2) how much you get paid, and (3) the work life balance. For each person this is different - that said, if you're interested in business / finance, consulting is a pretty good option early on.
