Sister Richards... she taught us philosophy, and French. She was such an interesting, open-minded, and devoted woman: we all loved her. I never thought I'd see her again. Thank you so much.
I love this story of these lovely women. I am very inspired to know nuns, in and out of habit, who are modern and missionaries not only abroad (from USA) BUT THESE modern nuns I meet are intelligent, active, determined, committed in the graces of the Holy Spirit serving the homeless, addressing and helping with trafficking of foreigners, and in the ghettos and favelas in this world. Some women wear a veil and some dont depending upon their assignments and charisma. I hope these ladies receive support.
God bless you Sister Malinda as well as your two other sisters. What a journey. Use social media to communicate your history, present situation, charism, etc. publicize and maybe graces will flow. I pray for you now. Boston,Massachusetts, USA.
Through history religious life has always been changing, yet surviving. The last 200 years were an anomaly in the history of religious life. For cultural and often economic reasons convents and monasteries swelled with vocations. Women, especially, have opportunities outside of religious life for education and work Iives which they would not have had in the past. They can pursue these things without having to enter a religious community. The Associate and Oblate movement is thriving as way for the charisma of religious communities to continue into the future. The Spirit moves as she wills!
My sister was there, 1964-1970, skating on the roof, being taught Italic Script Handwriting, and to place a newspaper on a young man's lap before sitting on it :) Ma Mere, R.I.P.
@@constancechateau7312 I recently met someone from Dublin. In the 1930's, when her mother was a girl, she used to travel to the Convent in Holyhead every term! It seemed to me like Coals-to-Newcastle! I mean, isn't Dublin full of Catholic Girls School Convents?! Holyhead must have had a good reputation.
Obviously, very well meaning Sisters. Unfortunately, by abandoning traditional religious life, including a distinctive religious habit and apostolate, they are now presiding over the death of their once thriving Community. Oddly neither the Sisters nor the priest introduced themselves as “Sister or “Father,” and other than at the altar, the priest was not in clerical attire. Secularization leads to the destruction of religious life,
My daughter remarked to me that Miranda could be a sister of mine, as the likeness is uncanny. My family came from Shropshire, so there's a chance that we are related. Is there any way I could get in touch with her to explore this further? Thanks so much
1 Timothy 1-3 1. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2. Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3. Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
if you don't look like priests and nuns, people find it very hard to think that you are priests and nuns; at least ones that really believe. That's not going to attract vocations is it.
Sad... I believe that most if not all cloistered Nuns took the biggest blow post-Vatican II even greater than the Priest shortage. Even the modern habit looks much more relaxed and secular than the traditional habit Nuns used to wear as a sign of being dead to the world but alive in Jesus Christ. Choosing to not wear any habit is a massive shift away from the One True Faith. Salve Maria.
VATICAN 2 WAS THE START OF THE DOWNFALL OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. IT WAS INFILTRAITED BY THE ENEMIES OF GOD. IT'S SAD TO SEE THE SISTERS AT THEIR AGE WITH NO ONE TO RELPACE THEM. IT MUST BE HEARTBREAKING FOR THEM. GOD BLESS THEM.🙏
They're all in this shape, across much of Western Europe. Also, moving people about (when they're not paying for themselves) costs money and the Church doesn't have that. Mass takings are way down year on year, Catholic schools and other establishments have to employ lay staff at full salaries, while compensation payments have been climbing ever higher. The only way this could be resolved is for the Vatican to start selling off their properties in bulk- and I don't think Pope Francis could get that past the cardinals.
The apostolate of these Sisters was to teach young students the Catholic faith. They did not take religious vows to give out holy communion at the altar like priests or drive elderly people to the doctor appointments, as good as that may be. Obviously, not wearing a Religious habit just adds to the confusion and the demise of the religious community.
People who romanticize the habit don’t understand the origin. Habits were supposed to identify the sisters with the clothing of the poor people at the time they were founded. Think of the saris that St. Mother Teresa’s sisters wear. There are 2 orders near me that were founded around 1960. They wear simple, modest dresses or skirts and blouses. One group wears a large pill box style hat (Thank Jackie Kennedy who made pillbox hats fashionable at that time), but the other one does not bc they were begun in a Communist country and would not have survived if they wore a veil. Some orders were founded for a singular purpose. Once that purpose is met, the order has no reason to continue. Orders that don’t change, die. My order was founded to see what needed to be done then do that thing. So we took in orphans and latchkey children plus taught skills to their parents and care for homebound elders. Then we were called to create schools and hospitals. Now we also participate in the ministry of presence, creating ministries as needed, such as food pantries, counseling, and spiritual direction.
O I wish the nuns could come here in Pacific Northwest Washington State USA and live and pray uninterrupted by the world madnesses. God bless you sincerely Gentle NUNS ...🙏❤️👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🙏🐕🦺🚶❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pse sisters, ask SSPX to help you n get more vocation. Wear your nun habits too. Satan has attacked many Priests n Religious Vocations. Will pray for 3 of you n also for SSPX to rescue your convent.
Sad what the Novus Ordo has done. If there are sisters or traditional priest that are looking for places to stay please respond we might be able to help in Massachusetts.
The Monastic habit was the definition and connection with the whole monastic life of 1700 years. Rome broke away from the Church and was then free to innovate much. Come home to Orthodoxy ... Most Holy Theotokos, save us.
...Irish Nuns are weird...French Nuns aren't the same. The Émilie de VIALAR in Tunisia were the best. All the Nuns'Orders in Tunisia were The Best. The Best. God's Favorites. ⚔️.
Sister Richards... she taught us philosophy, and French. She was such an interesting, open-minded, and devoted woman: we all loved her.

Bring back the Habit, and vocations will come. I believe this! It’s impressed on my heart.
Absolutely ! That was my first thought. Return to the full habit.

God bless these wonderful nuns. So sad to see the demise of the school and convent. Personally I love to see a nun wearing the habit.
I would love to see these Nuns in their Religious Habit...Your community will surely flourish.
Absolutely
Modernism has destroyed Catholic institutions but there are many of us out here who carry on the true faith. The faith lives, the structures crumble.
Salve Maria! We need a TLM revival and we need Pope Francis to rescind traditionis custodes.
This is what the Novus Ordo wants.
May God richly bless and protect you sisters. Invite Traditional sisters to come and live among you. Our Lady of LaSalette, pray for us.
If you are reading this sister Silvia , big hugs from your former primary student Kelly wright xxx

God Bless them
If they are in their traditional religious habit, for sure vocations will flourish
I really believe this. You are so right. This is unfortunate. The Habit is a sign of consecration and this is slowly slipping away since Vatican 2.
God bless you Sister Malinda as well as your two other sisters. What a journey. Use social media to communicate your history, present situation, charism, etc. publicize and maybe graces will flow. I pray for you now. Boston,Massachusetts, USA.
It's VERY obvious why their community will soon disappear. That they seem bewildered as to why just adds to the acceleration

These ladies are dedicated. I find no fault in them.
Very sad to see the loss of vocations
Not the SSPX They’re building convents just because they follow traditional church teaching and not the false destruction
There is no loss of vocations. God still calls. However, he may not be calling people to live like these sisters.
Ty for sharing

We skated on the roof too... we played tennis with the sisters. Do you remember Mother Brown?

Ah, what a pity... I can't remember anyone being injured while I was a border there...
Also in Carriglea, Dungarvan, doing wonderful work.

They secularized and abandoned the habit
That sums it up. So why would someone bother to leave the secular life for a secular life?
Exactly why they’re in the shape they are in. 😢

❤ He loves you!
I do too!
I recognise sister Silvia in the photo from st Gerard's. Lovely lady

Visit Sr. Miranda at the Island !!!

The fruit of modernism, very sad.

Cant they just move to other cloisters or something?

They better find a way out of their predicament. Like swimming to shore

You have lost your way. No habit? No outward sign of your sacrifice .

Because they left Tradition Habits and sort the world instead of Christ

Its no wonder traddional orders are growing while orders that have turned their backs on the habit are dying they brought it on themselves
