I frequented their Chuch when I lived in North Belfast. I’m sad to hear that they aren’t there anymore... very sad. Many of us were comforted by their presence during ‘the troubles’... as was I...♥️💐
I don’t say this with any malice or blame - nuns that give their lives to God for our benefit are gravely unappreciated. I so miss their presence in my life these days. They built men and women, of children, with self awareness of souls. It isn’t hard to understand that they are lovers and loved by God - the ultimate life.
Absolutely. I was educated as my mother was, attending boarding school then nursing training with them as well. They were strict in those days. Never underestimate their incredible strength and they would often engage with the local priests and put them in their place as required. Working, still in their 80’s and cared for my mother in last days. Will never forget them. 🇦🇺🙏
If they had stayed more traditional in regards to the mass for example, it would have saved them. Other congregations did and they are flourishing in comparison. So sad.
Sadly this convent closed a few years ago and the 2 remaining sisters whe were left are now in a convent in Carlow, I knew them so well as we live near there and sometimes went there for mass and rosary and holy hours. The convent was rebuilt and the diocese took it over after the nuns left as a diocesan administration centre.
Praise GOD! May GOD ALMIGHTY sends many vocations in your convent. May you remain faithful in your vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. May HE always grants piety for all of you to strive for a holy life in reparation for sins now and forever without end. May this prayer be sealed in GOD'S HOLYTHRONE NOW and FOREVER WITHOUT END. Amen.
Hello from America😊After watching this, I also wondered when this was made and can't believe it was 1982. I was still in school being taught by nuns. I also read that Sr Pascal passed and more resently Sr Mary. It's strange and a little surprising to hear about the closing of the convent and their passings. In the video they were relatively young. Also, does anyone know what happened to Bernadette Hughes, the nun who being admitted?
My mother went to Catholic school and the BVM Nuns were the nuns that were there. My mother loved them so much & had so much respect for them and that’s 80 years ago. She always said that Thea’s woman gave up on having husbands and children in order too be married to Christ & to teach other peoples children about the Lord and the love he has for us as his children. We are loosing our nun’s little bye little such a shame 😢😢
In September 1984 I asked an Irish Benedictine Nun out by accident. She tracked me down now that she's back in the 6 Counties. EDIT: this was 1 week before I turned 13 in the 7th grade.
With all the scandals in the Catholic Church that have gone on, it is deeply unfair that the Poor Clare Sisters have been scapegoated in some quarters and get “tarred with the same brush” by those who hate the church, so as a gay man myself, I tend to defend the Sisters in this regard when this kind of criticism comes up
Very true. The Carmelites, the Poor Clare’s, the Cistercian’s/Trappists, the women Benedictines are in a totally different category to the Sisters of Mercy or the Christian Brothers or the Rosminians. Worst they ever did was get grumpy with each other or the cows in the dairy. I see that the Cistercian Mount Melleray is going to close. A tragic loss of contemplative wisdom is happening in Ireland - the wisdom and peace of these men spoke to all - even atheists
I was a Franciscan Sister for 12 years and 20 years ago I left the Catholic Church and now I belong to a very thriving non denominational Church. Some people ask me how I became born again? They are surprised when I say I was born again before I entered the convent! I want people to know that most nuns ARE BORN AGAIN!!! That experience is what they perceive as a call to religious life! They are saved they just have incorrect theology. Pray for them and ask God to protect them and lead them. I'm not sorry for one second of the time I was I the convent! That's where I learned yo pray!!!!! ❤

I wonder what happend to the professing nun in this video. She seems to not have been one of the nuns at the time of the closing of the monastery in 2012.
Sometimes nuns get transferred to other houses within the order. It's especially been happening the past few decades as convents move/consolidate/close. I can't speak to how the Poor Clares operate, but it's possible they were still professed and living, just elsewhere.
What is the point of nuns there not doing anything as before they would do things badly very badly but what they get a house payed for them and food provided just for praying surely there will not be nuns soon

These videos are very important because they show us aspects of Church life before we became washed away by the liberal and progressive tide.

because the pope was JP2, it has to be some time in or after 1978
and JP2 visited Britain in 1982, so I would guess that's the year.
