Through history religious life has always been changing, yet surviving. The last 200 years were an anomaly in the history of religious life. For cultural and often economic reasons convents and monasteries swelled with vocations. Women, especially, have opportunities outside of religious life for education and work Iives which they would not have had in the past. They can pursue these things without having to enter a religious community. The Associate and Oblate movement is thriving as way for the charisma of religious communities to continue into the future. The Spirit moves as she wills!

Its no wonder traddional orders are growing while orders that have turned their backs on the habit are dying they brought it on themselves

People who romanticize the habit don’t understand the origin. Habits were supposed to identify the sisters with the clothing of the poor people at the time they were founded. Think of the saris that St. Mother Teresa’s sisters wear. There are 2 orders near me that were founded around 1960. They wear simple, modest dresses or skirts and blouses. One group wears a large pill box style hat (Thank Jackie Kennedy who made pillbox hats fashionable at that time), but the other one does not bc they were begun in a Communist country and would not have survived if they wore a veil. Some orders were founded for a singular purpose. Once that purpose is met, the order has no reason to continue. Orders that don’t change, die. My order was founded to see what needed to be done then do that thing. So we took in orphans and latchkey children plus taught skills to their parents and care for homebound elders. Then we were called to create schools and hospitals. Now we also participate in the ministry of presence, creating ministries as needed, such as food pantries, counseling, and spiritual direction.

if you don't look like priests and nuns, people find it very hard to think that you are priests and nuns; at least ones that really believe. That's not going to attract vocations is it.

I love this story of these lovely women. I am very inspired to know nuns, in and out of habit, who are modern and missionaries not only abroad (from USA) BUT THESE modern nuns I meet are intelligent, active, determined, committed in the graces of the Holy Spirit serving the homeless, addressing and helping with trafficking of foreigners, and in the ghettos and favelas in this world. Some women wear a veil and some dont depending upon their assignments and charisma. I hope these ladies receive support.

Las Hermanas de Bon Sauveur hoy Hnas. Misioneras del Evangelio son fieles a su vocacion! LAS FELICITO TANTOS AÑOS DEJANDO TODO POR JESUS Y EL AMOR A DIOS PADRE.,!!! El dicho dice que ´´el habito hace al monje´´, pero en este caso las Hermanas siguen siendo fieles a su caminito de santidad entregando su vida por los demas y los mas necesitados. Como dice algun comentario por abajo, han evolucionado, y en forma positiva siguen a Dios Padre, antes con el habito y hoy dia sin el habito pero no han renunciado a lo mas importante que es el llamado a seguir a Jesus con humildad y simplicidad. Da mucha pena que hayan cerrado el Colegio, no solo por la educacion catolica tan buena que debian recibir las alumnas, sino tambien porque podria dar frutos vocacionales. Habian construido un gran colegio, mucha tristeza que se vino abajo. Pero esto pasa en todo el mundo, Congregaciones de cientos de años que quedan sin vocaciones de hermanas, monjes o sacerdotes, y deben cerrar vendiendo o cediendo todo. En este caso, que bueno que se han unido con otras Congregaciones y formado entre varias esta nueva Congregacion que de seguro, pongamosla en oracion, sera pujante y seguira teniendo nuevas vocaciones. Otra alternativa, es que inviten a Hermanas de otra Congregacion a continuar su obra en Holyhead, como las Hermanas del Hogar de la Madre de origen español pero con vocaciones de varios paises, como Irlanda del Norte ( de donde provino la fallecida Hna Clare +), quienes se dedican a la educacion en Colegios, apostolado en Hospitales, Hogares de Niños y Ancianos, y tambien Seminario con sacerdotes propios como el Padre Henry +. www.hogardelamadre.org / www.hogardelamadre.org/es/quienes-somos/siervas Hermanas que Dios las bendiga y muchas gracias por su labor a lo largo de estos años. pd. felicitaciones a los que produjeron el video
