I live near the factory. It burned down on march 1. Its a huge loss for our communities. Its completely gone. Thankfully everyone made it out safely. I heard that the owners say that they are going to rebuild. My favorite chips. Now our communities are supporting them. Its a small town we support each other.

Multiple media outlets reported on a significant fire at the Covered Bridge Potato Chip factory in Hartland, New Brunswick on Friday, March 1 2024. The blaze resulted i🎉n the destruction of the plant and had repercussions on nearby businesses.

Hartland is a small town in western-central new brunswick. It is basically in the heart of Potato country here, with a lot of big farms and villages who only grow potatoes. The bridge is over the Saint John River, a major river that was important in the colonial days, but now is basically a hydropower and recreation river.
Just to the north of the covered bridge is a big concrete bridge that crosses; it used to be part of the Transcanada Highway before it got rerouted.
McCain's frozen foods (big for French Fries and other frozen foods) is headquarted about 20 minutes up river from Hartland in an even smaller village called Florenceville.
As for Rick Mercer, everyone loves when he visits, but they also dread because he LOVES to push buttons and do 'dangerous' stuff. I'm sure everything was preplanned, but at the same time you know everyone around him is worried about what the hell he'll do next.
Covered Bridge Potato Chips as others have mentioned just had a disasterous fire (probably why people suggested you to do this video), but they WILL rebuild and no one was hurt. I don't know the Albright family well, but my sister does, she grew up and went to school with the owner.
As for the hairnets and beardnets, you want to make sure hair is contained whenever you are near food production because the hair can fall out anywhere/any time and blow around a bit. But Rick walking on the bags is no big deal; those potatoes were in the ground before being bagged and they were being cleaned once they were dumped from the bag, so extra dirt from the shoes doesn't matter.

Dill pickle chips are a Canadian flavour that has been around a long time. Actually one of my personal faves after Ketchup.

I see that other commenters have already informed you of the destruction by fire of that potato chip factory. I believe that covered bridge is quite old (built in 1898) which explains why they would've only listed the length of it in feet. Canada didn't go metric until roughly 80 years later, and still often posts things like the height of a roif/overhead clearance in both feet and meters.

OMG! You won’t believe this! This morning I watched a video shown by “ Tyler Bucket “ another you tuber who does a lot of Canadian things. He was reacting to Canadian news items. One article was about the Covered Bridge Potato Chip factory burning to the ground. Thankfully no one was injured. This afternoon, I watched your video about this factory. I had never heard of this brand of chips before and now twice within a few hours ! How bizarre!

OMG, I saw the same video to watch Tyler. I was also thinking what a coincidence that on the same day we see a video the factory was burnt down a video about the factory is being done

Mike Duffy BTW was a Canadian senator. He was also very obese, hence the joke about sending the chips to his residence.

This factory was completely destroyed this weekend, it burned completely to the ground unfortunately.
Hartland NB isnt very far from me. Its a shame, I'm sure they will rebuild, but they do/did make some really good chips.

Dill pickle chips are actually a very popular flavour in Canada, Lobster though I have not seen before. Covered bridges used to be very common in Canada as well. Covering the wooden bridges bring their lifespan from 20 years uncovered to about 100 years covered since it protects the bridge from the elements. They were continued to be build until the 1950s...the oldest surviving wooden covered bridge is in Switzerland and was built in the 1300s

Mike Duffy was a Canadian Senator from PEI who was apart of the Conservative Government. He was under hot water for a political scandal where he listed living in PEI while actively collecting a residence stipend while not living there. He volunteered to pay back the $90,000 he owed after the Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Chief of Staff personally wrote him a cheque for the $90,000. He was charged but eventually acquitted as the judge ruled he was a pawn for the Prime Minister's Office and that had they been on trial, the outcome would have been different.
He's also a pretty big guy, so the joke of him having a personal conveyor belt of chips is a great dig.

Historically, Hartland has a lot of history with Potato chips. Back in the 80's, they had a Humpty Dumpty Potato chip factory in the town; I remember a school trip that went up to see the factory when I was a kid (I live in a big town south of Hartland; my mom was a teacher at Hartland High School). Lays bought out Humpty Dumpty and closed that plant at some point.
Then Covered Bridge Chips started up. They make all the standard flavours, usually using Russet potatoes or sweet potatoes. They uses Sea Salt as well for flavouring, and have all the standard flavours like Dill, Salt and Vinegar, BBQ, as well as some 'local' ones like Lobster.
One of their big selling types in the winter is "Storm Chips". It's a bigger bag that contains a mix of 4 flavours. Marketing wise, they advertise to "Make sure you have your storm chips before the storm hits". In the summer they have a similar mix flavour bag called "The Weekender", where they market it to make sure you have it before the (long) weekend in the summer.
They're very popular throughout the Maritimes, and across Canada. Since the fire, they're basically sold out in all the stores locally. There factory is just off the TransCanada Highway at the Hartland exit; the regional hospital is a stones throw away from it.
And yeah, the chips themselves are cheap to make. The big bags retail for 4-5$ each, and they have smaller 'individual' bags for 1-2$, and that's retail cost. Even that big bag Rick had probably only cost about 10-15$. And I know from my sister, that people who work there/know them can easily get big bags of chips like that if/when they want them.
The airport at the end was Fredericton Airport; the Capital city of New Brunswick. Cramming the chips in was probably mostly for show; likely after filming he either took it with him regardless, or they dumped it out into sample bowls for waiting passengers to sample.

Dill Pickle flavoured chips (or crisps as you'd say) are a pretty common flavour choice in Canada

Covered bridges are hundreds of years old and there are still around 600 left in North America. The reason for the roof was to keep the wood Timbers of the bridge dry.

Walking on the potatoes was done before they were washed and ready to be processed. The man with the beard needs it to keep the hair out of the finished product

Everytime that was mentioned it got me thinking, too lol That, or like a whole segment of chips wouldn't actually be sold (like him piling up all the chips on the conveyor belt). Something that they weren't reaching the public as is.
