So, like many other theatre fans, I enjoyed watching Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS at the weekend. 🙀
CATS was one of the first musicals I was ever introduced to as a child and I've been in love with it ever since. 😻
The most common criticism I see from inside the theatre community is that CATS has 'no plot' or that it 'doesn't make sense', so obviously I have crafted an impeccable Mister Mistoffeles cosplay with limited lockdown supplies and sat down with a bottle of wine to explain the cultural phenomenon that is CATS. 😹

Describing Bustopher Jones as a "chonky boi" is simultaneously is hilarious and also really accurate.

The wierdest but most entertaining explanation of "CATS"! Have you ever owned a cat? With so many different personalities, they are hours of viewing entertainment. The line "a cat is not a dog" is to let you know that if you decide to get a cat, do not expect it to act like a dog. It will not fetch or jump happily on you when you come home. I call them "eating, pooping stuffed animals." I think the phrase "Dogs have owners. cats have servants." pretty much sums it up. My two littermates will work together like Mungojerry and Rumpleteaser. They also have the traits of so many of the others as well. I always thought of the "heavyside lair" as a place of reincarnation , not death. And Grizzabella as a once arrogant glamorous show cat who was treated well and who looked down her nose at the others, but then got thrown out into the cold when she got old.

You are hilarious...love your sense of humor! Saw the show at least 3 times and learned a few new things I never realized before...but I did know a Cat is not a Dog!
Pertaining to Victoria, not only is this her first Jellicle Ball, it's also the first time she goes I to heat. So yeah, there are definitely sexual overtones throughout the show.

This video is adorable and hilarious. Well done! Also, I only put together a couple of years ago, during the pandemic when we rescued a kitten from our alley, that Mr. Mistoffelees' "power" of producing 7 kittens out of a hat is a reference to his, uh, mating proclivities. :)

Bustopher Jones is a beloved cat friend of all those clubs and restaurants, I think. I imagine people feed this cute chubby cat every night and that's why he's unlike a thief.
It was pretty funny except for many things you got totally wrong in the story line but I’m not gonna hold it against you.

The Victoria things.... appears on a making off of the musical. I've seen the video of the coreographer expalining it to the actress that plays Victoria. Of course, it's more like "It's a virgin cat that is in heat for the first time" and "it's about mating", but i've seen it many times.

Waited months to see Cats on Broadway. My friend who was an ex marine threatened the dope singing while Betty. Buckley did Memory. We heard most of it thankfully

As an avid theatre-goer, I struggle with Cats. I've seen many shows that I didn't care for, but they generally fall into 2 categories: 1) Just not very good (underdeveloped, unclear, boring, messy, etc), or 2) Not my taste (I can appreciate that something is being done here that someone else may enjoy, but not me). I didn't like Cats at all when I finally saw it live in 2019 and would have lumped it into the Not Very Good category without a second thought, but on the other hand it somehow sold well enough to run forever on Broadway and some people apparently love it (though no one I know). So I remain confused and annoyed. If someone who loves Cats reads this and can tell me why you love it, I would greatly appreciate it if only to satisfy my curiosity.
I’ve owned some very chaotic, overdramatic cats. So, the musical feels very accurate to how I think my cats would act at a ball. Also some people believe that the jellical cats are a cult. I’m not completely sold on the idea but I get where people are coming from
I have owned cats, and EVERYTHING that is described through the songs are true. They are stuck up gluttons of capricious and changeable desires that believe they are the xenters of the universe and nothing happens without them, and of whom you may never be certain are where you last saw them, even if they were sleeping two seconds before. Lastly, and I know this from deeply personal experience, the detest being mistaken for dogs.
Basically if you are a feline fanatic, or maybe a fanatical feline, you will like Cats. If you are not, then, well, I suppose you must endure hufferry snufferry barking that can be heard all over the park. 😁
I'm a dancer and absolutely love the dance and the songs idk what to tell you hahahaha "Grizabella, the Glamour Cat" and "Old Deuteronomy" are my favorite songs, you should check the 1998 version of them!
