Thank you for giving the community this info. I don't know about anyone else but this definitely helped me out.
This video has a lot of good information, the walkthrough on how to actually use the program and showing what the different parts are meant is a huge help. I am getting toward the end of a build on a 2000 trans am that i am putting a supercharged LQ4 based 408, i was looking at the costs of getting it running since im not sure the stock LQ4 tune would work or if it would damage the engine. The quotes i was being given were anywhere between $700-1,200, and since i want to make several changes that will definitely need another solid dyno tune for, i decided to look into the costs and difficulty in tuning my own cars.
I'm glad you made this video I've been on the fence for a while about buying it and I think I'm gonna take the plunge now, keep up the good work I can't wait to see the next video!
You know how to use the file comparison tree view? By far the fastest way to see any and all differences and be able to copy complex tables in one click, great overview, green screen is no bother
I have not used that actually. I'll have to give it a look. Appreciate the green screen feedback. I thought for sure it would cause a comment section meltdown. Maybe my excuse to finally switch to Vegas. Lol.

I have a Datsun 280ZX had a small block 406 upgrading to the lq4 6L I think this definitely is going to help me get started tuning thanks for going into depth on the options 2 Hp tuner little easier to understand than some of these other guys that talk too fast and don't explain exactly what they're doing

I Apologize in Advance for the green screen at transition points. I spent a couple hours trying to remove it but no luck. May try a different editing software for screen capture.
Do you have to buy credits for turning off anti theft systems
What software are you using to screen capture now? I'd like to be able to do videos like these but that green screen is distracting lol I appreciate you going through this software to walk me through what is what. I'm used to aftermarket ECUs so this is just getting used to the software display and its strategies.
@@TheProPilot OBS. What I do now is render the unedited clips into its own video, then edit that one. Then it doesn't do the green screen after cuts.

great video love the information with the fundamentals hptuners, wish i saw this earlier! and one thing with such a long video you should go through it and make a table of contents in the description so if someone needs to reference back to it one day they can find a spot about lets say map sensor characteristics or something for example just some advice for future vids man.

How do you go about doing say, OS upgrade, VATS delete, and segment swap? Can you do it all at once and just write entire 1 time or is there a particular order you must do them in?

@a21bravo Off topic question. I have to bay better scanner ($150-200) to program/relearn Crankshaft position sensor. I have LS-edit. My first experience to reprogram 5.3L was cost me an engine (road throw the block). I not able to make LS-Edit to work with Win7 and Win10.

Hello a21bravo...I know it's been a while since you made this vid; but at about time 53 min where you are playing back a saved Log File, the Accelerator Pedal Position does not change from 0% on the Channel List value throughout the log. I am having similar problems with PIDs that don't record or worse yet when it does record in the Channel List Values and then using the same Channel List on another Log, it does not record. Do you know what is going on and what I need to do to correct the problem. Thanks...this is the best video I have seen on HPT Scanner/Editor and definitely the most comprehensive.

call for MIL illumination, a Trouble code showing up on the dash. Working on a 2009 Silverado and changed
everything including fuel pressure sensor, FSCM, fuel pump and still get trouble code. The truck runs perfect as it did before I changed everything including ground and wiring check.
Hi a21bravo, good video. I just need to send my tuner a copy of my current car file so he can tune it. I’m already running a previous HP tune. I have the mvpi 1. How do I use that to retrieve the car file, copy, save and send?. I don’t need to dink around with anything just copy save and send. I’ve never used this stuff myself before. Thanks

9:50 can you save a stock file and later write the stock file (unmodified) back to the ECM without using credits?
whats up dude! i love watching your videos! i got a 5.3l turbo ranger also, do you happen to know what setting to use to get the factory tachometer output to read right? right now i have high resolution 3 and low 3 but its off by 1k rpms.
Mine is off a bit too... Reads high. I don't really use it enough to care, but may have to do with the resistance on the pullup circuit.
What can cause mafs not givnig a good signal? Brand new GM MAFS

Getting ready to tune my first car soon. As far as licensing goes I don't want to waste any credits but I have a p59 with IAC. The os is drive by wire currently. I'm a little confused on the best way to get a base tune without wasting credits, would the simplest way be to buy my ecm vin and one of sloppys flex/ 3 bar sd tunes and then shut off the trans segment (running th400)
That's how I did mine for flex, licensed one of the tune cabinet files and wrote that...

Yeah it will do all of that. I heard the original versions had issues with logging wideband over Bluetooth, but I think they have that fixed now.

Yes, there are some special instructions that pop up when doing the conversion. Mainly using the "save as" function, saving as a new file, then using the "write entire" function for the first write of the new file.
So if i bought the mvpi1 used, I would need to buy the vcm software too?

I appreciate the video, a21bravo! I am on the fence of purchasing the HPtuner & credits. My current set up is a bone stock and high mileage GMC Envoy SLT with the 4.2. I want to use that as a starter for gaining fuel efficiency and/or power before diving into a separate project car I want to LS swap. My intent is to daily the Envoy and make very marginal changes. The bigger goal is to learn the HPtuner front to back.
The Envoy is well kept and in great work order with no SEL lights. Any advice on which direction I should go to learn the software? Whether it be more youtube, or parameters to dabble in first?

a21bravo I licensed my camaro 4 credits , then I sent the base tune to my tuner, did I essentially waste 4 credits, should of I waited for my tuner to send back the tune then used my 4 credits, I think I did it backwards,
Someone told me I should of sent him the base tune using no credits, then when my tuner sent back the tune i should of selected “write vechile” then used the 4 credits
My friend have question some one make everything in my project tuned my pcm and my harness now motor dosen't turn on just turn on for few seconds.
Does it fire then die right away? Or does it actually run and struggle for a bit then die?

Tuned my 97 GMC 454 with a hypertech programmer... have Volant cai, Jet MAF, Flowmasters...very easy to tune and update....HP tuners is not for basic tunes....essentially for shops, weekend and regular racers. A class for tuning....multiple classes...videos etc.... got this to tune a 12 caprice and 09 tahoe....feel like i have to train for 6 months first 😳😵🤦
can someone actually tune your chip and they live another state and cant up the obd1 up and see the reading they just going by the information you gave them of what you got in your car...i would think its hard to get the chip burn correctly especially the frist time..the reason i ask you that because im having that problem now..

What if you swap your engine does it cost more credits
The credits are tied to the VIN for the computer. If you keep same computer you don't need to use more credits.

how do you download the vcm scanner ? i have the editor but the scanner doesn’t pop out to download am i missing something?
You should be able to find it in the HPtuners program files on the computer.

No, this tunes stock ECU.
So right now ive got a 2002 Mustang gt N/A. ive got a Vortech v3 kit with power pipe i will be installing soon and im really on the fence. i bought a Moates Quarterhorse and Binary Editor and im just having trouble getting it to work im sure its probably user error and theres just not a lot of support. so its either pay the tuner at the speed shop $500 for a dyno tune or go with the HP tuners. Its tough because love the thought of doing it myself and not having to pay someone.
Really depends how much time you're willing to spend on it, and what risk you're willing to accept. If a lot of time and possible broken parts are an issue the tuner may be the best option. If that's not and issue, or you change parts/upgrade a lot, tuning yourself is worth it in the long run.
When I hit the OS tab, nothing shows up. It's blank. 00 GMC Sierra. Trying to change to a 3 bar MAP for a 7875 Turbo. Any ideas?
Usually its blank when the OS has already been changed. Should be able to look at the details and see what type of OS it is.

Has anyone here used hptuners on ford cars? I ended up using sct for my 2.3t ranger because i couldn't find any ford/hptuner reviews, might still try it some day.
Do you have to have a wide band for basic tuning?
I would recommend it... You may be able to do some part throttle tuning with fuel trims, but I would trust that for mid/wide open throttle tuning.
Which wide band would you recommend?

I just don’t understand.. this cost just as much as to get the ECU FLUSHED by a professional, you got more chance to screw things up and more things to worry about , more reading and understanding... why don’t just go to a professional team and make a great tuning with a hard disk of backup to go back to stock ?? You can also get a better increase of HP in this way..
Depends on the person. If you're going to build something once, and never touch it again, id recommend taking it to someone. Since I bought this, I've done 3 ECU's. Once of the ECU's I've flashed hundreds of times because I've changed turbo, injectors, exhaust, added methanol, changed fuel pressure, season changes, increased boost level etc. How many times have you watched someone on a video dyno their car and say "I'm running out of injector, I'll have to come back"... They're now buying new injectors and spending another $400-$600 to get it re-tuned. Depends on the person. I take my stuff to the track so I'm constantly changing things.
a21bravo k i see , this is stuff for people that keep on modifying their vehicle.. but if you don’t crave so much and keep you limit to a CAI and exaust, and as per my case now considering some extra power..would you still suggest that ?
@@Italianborn Might need a a light tune for that, but not worth buying the software. Unless you're really wanting to understand how everything works... I bought it knowing full well that I was going to break stuff (which I have). But pulling the motor, rebuilding the trans etc. doesn't bother me. But it's not for everyone.
