But background music means that the volume is low enough so you can talk with your friends over it etc.. if you want it "really super loud" as you say, it's not background music anymore and you might as well wear headphones ;)
same, specially if you are fucking 7 years old. I remember wearing a pantera t-shirt with that age. I remember too that I didn't make friends in school xD
Jacob Trull oh gosh everyone's assuming I'm like 10 lol. I just finished high school. there were a very small number of people who listened to a few bands here and there but none of them were in to it to the point that I'd call them a metal head, yanno? they were just someone I could mention the new metallica album or new soad album coming to and they'd be like "Oh cool" I'm pretty sure I was the only kid in the school who even knew who Death was. maybe it's just my area but I shit you not I literally have one metal head friend and he's like 12 years older than me
Gabe Rowland yeah, when I told my aunt I listened to metal she asked me if I was a satanist and then went over to stab me with a short knife to "get them evil demons out!"
The conflicting feelings when you hear awesome music, but the band uses satanic imagery and you have been raised as a christian. (I'm pretty lucky on that one though. The only band I listen to, that goes KINDA in that direction is Slipknot.)
Please tell me how for example SFU's Steve Swanson is WAY more talented than Michael Jackson. If you are telling others"how metal musicians are WAY more talented than pop "musicians"" then YOU are part of the problem why the Metal community has such a bad reputation. You simply sound like a pretencious prick when generalizing like that. Learn to differentiate. There are great pop musicians as well as there are shitty Metal musicians. Metal is not the single one peak of creation.
Bambuzzsprosse I do dislike that some people seem to think that they're better than other people because that they like rock music, but on average, metal musicians seem to be more talented at playing instruments and at singing than pop musicians. Michael Jackson is a pretty good singer though, even though I don't like his style of singing.
@@damf5488 It is a lifestyle if you're an artist and are constantly looking for things to draw inspiration for your own music from. I, for one, are trying to come up with a certain theme and atmosphere for my music and I have fortunately found my source of lyrics now. For many people, metal affects their appearance; what are they wearing and of course, guys with long hair usually tend to be metal listeners. And last but not least: ever heard of band practises? Your lifestyle surely has to change if (metal) music is a close hobby of yours to the point where you visit studying/playing music 3 times a week - music theory, vocal lessons and band practise. And right now, it looks like I've found another band to have a go with, making it almost an everyday routine. Besides, we had one gig too and it felt like a huge accomplishment for me in general, even though it was only a livestream. So yes, I'd argue metal can be more than music. When it shapes your everyday life and thoughts, I think it can be called a lifestyle.
I may not dress heavymetal but i love it to make my mind go blank in wonder from reality for a lil while. It ain't a phase. I hate it when people say shit like that
@@Shadowsdeity That and the people who say "just music" is because they treat it as entertainment or a hobby, like watching Netflix casually or playing the latest sports video game. Mainstream music has watered down the meaning of "music" itself quite a lot unfortunately, and most people are not curious enough to look for good music.
@@metalhead2017 I was listening to infant Anailator decapitation fornication and a little could be herd out of my head phones and this kid said you are listening to some crazy rock I wanted to die there
3 things that suck about being a female metalhead: 1. A lot of people assume that you can't POSSIBLY be into metal on your own- you MUST be at the show because a guy made you go with him, the band merch you're wearing your MUST be your boyfriend's, or you're wearing it to GET a boyfriend. Which brings me to number 2. Constantly being talked to in a condescending way by both other metalheads (not all, obviously, but enough that it's an fucking issue) AND by people who aren't into metal, and who think it's their job to tell you how much prettier/more approachable/more ladylike you'd be if you weren't into metal. Sometimes it feels like we can't win! 3.A lot of band merch that's "for girls" runs really small (my boobs like metal too, and they deserve some badass merch that FITS goddammit!), is way overpriced, can be way too girly, or is revealing in an uncomfortable way. Still, I love my metal and I love my metalheads \m/
Woo hoo! Yeah! I hate the t-shirts that they make specifically for "girls". Can't you make a t-shirt that fits EVERYONE? :O They just use that to charge more for their shirts sometimes, lol.
being called goth annoys me XD i dont wear all black offten bc i dont like wearing all black all the time bc its boring but it just mc annoys me when people call me goth when im wearing corpse paint lel
The worst thing for me probably is being a metal head still at 42 years old. Now to me it's awesome and i realize now i'll probably love it till the day i die. But where i live, people think i'm a 42 year old and still listening to metal, like what a joke i must be, grow up their thinking. Oh i guess at my age i'm supposed to match everybody around here and listen to country. Ignorant beyond belief.
Eh don't listen to the idiots. I'm only 4 years behind you, and I'm still totally into metal. It's we oldies that hand it to the next generation to keep metal alive through the ages.
I completely agree with +Spectre when he said that it's you "oldies" that hand it to the next generation. I probably wouldn't have gotten into metal if my dad hadn't shown me it. Apparently when I was a baby I had one of those bouncy chair things, and I'd used to bounce around in it whenever my dad put SOAD on, or at least that's what my parents tell me. 15 years later I'm still into metal, so he must've done something right.
Samoclese I did the same with my daughter from when I was 2 months pregnant with her...went to Metallica, right in the Snake Pit. Being Autistic, she didn't really show much interest in music, though I played plenty of it when she was a wee one, but then she hit age 11, got her first MP3 player, and boom. Listened to pretty much nothing but Metallica for 3 years. (Aspie obsession). Now, at age 18, she adores most types of Thrash, Viking, Folk and Symphonic metal...with an odd taste in old Celtic folk songs for some reason...
dude. According to my parents whenI was little, I used to fall asleep to heavy metal. Not sure what exactly, but I guess I found it soothing, because I fell asleep to it. Heck, I still do it. Not much, but sometimes I'll be listening to Five Finger Death Punch, or Dadaroma, and I just fall asleep. Also, this is just my opinion, but I really don't like country. It is always about the same thing, and they always have those horrible accents.
"I can't even understand the vocals, it's just noise" And don't even try to recommend some Prog/Heavy Metal that actually has clean vocals to them, most won't evne bother because of their prejudice against metal -.-
Satanic...what is satanic? Certain words? OK. Im a bald 40 year old metal head (across the genre and also a fan of whatever rocks my world.) So excuse my lack of current metal lingo.(i dont give a fuck but misunderstandings bore me more than splaining.) How did you feel after the last time you Slammed out? Shook yur breans to oatmeal? REally had some fucking move you album or track. How did you feel, anticipating it, during and after? Good i bet. How is that bad? How did you feel ; before, during and after Church/mosque/whatever? Which has had a more positive overall effect on your life aside from the shit from the occasional single minded and limited idiot? So Which wins? Church or metal? Satan is just a cool character to scream about LOL :D its a fucking story. If people thought logically about religion for all of about 3 minutes. They´d fucking blow their minds at the utter stupidity and waste of time inherent in it.
I know what you mean. Can't stand Hip Hop. Absolute garbage and terrible excuse for music. I don't have any friends that listen to any heavy metal, I have one friend that listens to classic rock.
But that's what makes it even cooler, as most entertainment nowadays is handed to us on a plate, which I absolutely hate, as it takes away the need to go out and actually look for music (something that has helped me in terms of concerts, as I've been to over 20 concerts, and most of them were by artists that I discovered without any outside help).
+professional troll hunter I feel like I'm the only one who sees the difference between music and mainstream music...one isn't real. good musicians are everywhere not just metal. I also pride myself in having a unique playlist but mostly cuz I have too. I'm not hipster about it but litteraly no one listens to what I listen to whether it's metal or whatever but I do think looking for new music always is work that shows in your playlist. my point is just I was making a joke to help the op solve his problem. But other music doesn't just mean the radio, there's a whole world of real musicians out side of metal you guys :/ it's not like how it was back then when metal musicians were the only ones who knew how to play
Things that suck for me: People always make me the same questions about my hair In Italy is not so easy find a metal shop and bands don't come here so frequently (especially in Rome) I'm the only metalhead in my group of friends People think I worship Satan
#1 When people in Wal-Mart stare at you like your gonna go on a killing spree just 'cos your wearing a metal band's shirt. #2 When someone asks "How can you even understand what they're saying?" or "How is it even good music if you can't understand what they're saying?". #3 When your listening to metalcore and someone asks "You like death metal?" and your like "It's not freaking death metal." #4 When you just love a certain band but they happen to be deathcore or grindcore and other metalheads act like you've committed treason. #5 When you are wearing all black or are wearing a metal band's shirt and someone asks "Are you gothic?" I'm like "Just 'cos I wear black doesn't mean I'm freaking gothic!"
Saw a random boyinaband video where he talked about this kind of thing, and he made a great point for #2, and his point was "Oh, so music has to be understandable for it to be good? Can someone please go tell Psi, I'm sure Gangnam Style wasn't one of the most popular songs a few years ago."
Wearing a Maiden shirt waiting for pizza at Papa Murphy's and some random guy gives you a fucking card with 7 different religions on it claiming you need help...
Fence Estimates that never happened to me, but i saw some guy at walmart wearing a Marilyn Manson shirt, i was extremely jealous my dad said i cant wear Marilyn Manson shirts coz my mom would flip.
The worst thing about being a metalhead for me is when I'm in school and listening to something, someone I barely know always comes up to me and asks, "What are you listening to?" I let them listen and they always say the same shit. "That music is satanic you know." "That's really loud. It'll hurt your ears." As though my lack of social skills makes me stupid.
Yeah..... Tends to happen I never got that though. People have asked me what I listen to. A lot of people who generalise it and assume its always "screaming", "satanic" or the people who listen to it are "emo" and cut. It can be really unfair to those who are normal but are put into these categories because a lot of people seem to forget that every person is different.
One time, I was listening to music at school, and my friend came up and asked what I was listening to, and so I took out an earbud and let her listen. Then she gave me a scared look after only about five seconds...P.S. I was only listening to System of a Down, so not the heaviest music. XD
You're getting butt hurt over that you fucking pathetic poser why would you care about what someone thinks about you dumbfuck all you need to do is laugh because it's pretty funny that that person is ignorant or knock some sense in to them just say its music dumbfuck I like it. .
Damian cruz Calm the fuck down. I'm gonna tell you why you're wrong. I never once specified whether it got me "butthurt" or not, having people react like that. You assumed that I was an emotional little bitch because you like to write comments like these. I couldn't care less what they think. It's simply an annoyance (which, if you comprehend what you're reading in a more in depth fashion, means that I think being a metal head is kick ass). Next time you don your electronic armor and decide to be a keyboard warrior, read the comment properly.
You're a great example of the metalhead culture and community. Intelligent, kind, respectful, accepting, etc. I'm a metalhead too, 80's heavy metal primarily. Metalhead for life\m/

I agree with your points. another thing that sucks is when you tell people you're a metalhead, they assume you're satanist. also, when you're still a teenager and everyone says it's just a phase. it is quite irritating to be a teen and a female metalhead. lol
I know about the Satanist thing people drive me nuts with that!!! I'm a Christian and I still listen to it. Though I can't relate to the girl part (obviously) I understand where your coming at me being a teen in all. I do have a question; What do people say about it specifically? I'm curious to see if it's much different than what they say to guys. I know that's kind of weird but again I'm curious!!!
Wow that is completely different then I thought it would be me personally I got introduced to metal from my almost 20 year old sister a while back so I completely disagree with them saying its for guys because if it wasn't for a girl I probably would not listen to metal now! C(:
+charles dill my older sister introduced me to metal as well. Her fiancée has introduced their kid to metal as well haha. 3 years old and likes Slipknot cx
One thing that sucks being a metalhead is that you just can't stand hearing that crapy radio friendly pop music people force you to hear all day long on the radio, on their phones, on their mp3's, even when they have earphones they put it so loud you can actually sing along.... it's like being cursed lol
Where I work, metal is the most liked music (judging by how much of it is on the jukeboxes). That doesn't mean that it's on every day, as we like other forms of music too, but there is this one particular person who likes to put on the same songs every week (to the point where I want to stick pins in my ears whenever I hear ABBA).
1.) "You're such an Emo." 2.) "I love metal too! System of a Down, BVB, KoRn and Slipknot ❤️" 3.) "Listen to the songs backwards, it has satanic lyrics. It's the devils music!111!!" 4.) You get dizzy/neck hurts after head banging for too long. 5.) (everyone says this cause I'm 13) "Oh it's just a phase you'll grow outta it." 6.) You can't play music around non metal head friends. 7.) Going to school and everyone's a fucking rap/pop fan. 8.) (This only applies to young metalheads still living with parents) When a band you like comes in your area but you can't see them because parents are non metal fans. 9.) When you're in public listening to kick ass metal but you can't headbang. 10.) When a BVB song comes up and everyone looks at me and then I have to proceed to tell them that I don't listen to them and that theirs a difference between metal and Emo music.
omg it pisses me the fuck off when im at school and say im a metal head and everyone is all like "Really??? you don't dress emo though..." and i have to explain to the dumbasses about subgenres and they still don't get it. or they avoid you or get creeped out because for some dumb fucking reason they think you worship the devil. Don't worry i feel your pain. except it's like 10 times worse being a metalhead chick cause guys will pretend like they're into my shit as it would impress me or some shit and then they don't have a clue what I'm talking about a band (like iron maiden or pantera). those fuckheads get my hopes up that i found a person to talk to about metal. but yeah being a 14 year-old metalhead i feel your pain.
As someone who listens to BVB,I hate when people say that BVB is an emo band. For fuck sake.. The cancer community is emo, or "emo". Their first album was kinda emoish, I agree, but the other ones are not.
I hate it when I tell people I'm a metal head and people say "oh me too I love black veil brides" and you have to tell them why black veil brides isn't metal
ket amine How am I an emo?? Just cause I like a certain band that suddenly makes me an emo?? I don't listen to emo bands, except for MCR but that's it. Saying someone who listens to 1 band makes them an emo is pathetic. That's like saying if someone listens to rap they're suddenly a gangster.. Edit: also I never said I was a metalhead either.. I don't really listen to metal except for Pantera, I just listen to BVB & classic rock like KISS, Aerosmith, Guns n roses, AC/DC, QUEEN etc.
What's really annoying for is the fact that I'm the only one in my friend/family circles that listen to Metal and then get called weird and hear stuff like: "You're supposed to listen to Rap". Couldn't care less tho!! METAL RULES!!!! |m|
Another thing that sucks is when you're a small metalhead (7-12 years) and you can't go to concerts alone cause you're so young and you know that your parents hate metal and they aren't going to go with you, that's my case :'v
e·lit·ism əˈlēdˌizəm/ noun the attitude or behavior of a person or group who regard themselves as belonging to an elite. yeah i'm pretty sure people who tell others that their opinions about music are objectively wrong are elitist lmao
its a pain in the ass tbh . its up there with people asking "are you a satanist?", "How can you listen to that noise" or when somebody in public asks if your into metal and proceeds to pop quiz you even though the "heaviest" band they've ever listened to was trivium ... :/
The Denmeister nah i like to deceive people with my short hair and normal clothes and then suprise them by putting some pantera on when they trust me with the aux
One thing that sucks about being metalhead in my case like woman... people always say me that why am i not wearing in fashion?? and my answer is "I love bands t-shirts and I love wear them!!! I don't want to wear with the typical fashion stuff!!! I'm free to wear whatever I want... Greetings from Mexico
Im both, it was rlly hard for me to make friends in first grade up to 8th grade, whenever i try to bring my favourite artist/singer Ozzy Osbourne the kids would just straight up ignore me, and continue to talk about one direction. 8th grade was extremely easy for me to find friends who love ozzy and all of the stuff i also loved like aerosmith and alice cooper. Im in 9th grade now and they are still my friends, thank god
Old comment, I know. but if you have problems finding friends because you like different music than them... a) those people aren’t worth your time anyways b) it’s not about your music tastes, you just dont match
Twisted sister had that happen to them and I forgot who but one them has a tattoo of Jesus so he's not really a satanist then. There was an interview of them discussing it
Give her a quick search on TH-cam. She raps/sings/growls deeper than some men, and writes poetry. Usually all of those things on each album. I'd recommend checking out T.R.I.C (Rap/Growl), Perfectly Flawed(Slower-paced singing), and Baby's Breath (Poem).
Annother problem about being a metalhead is that people are asuming you are worshipping Satan. To which I would answer... Yes, I worship satan, what are you gonna do... perform an excorsism?
Or they immediately assume the bands you listen to worship Satan. I told someone I listen to Megadeth (I love Metallica too, I am not starting the debate) and they immediately said, "Don't they worship Satan or something?" I spent a good 30 minutes to them explaining how they use Satanic themes to make them seem scarier, or just to screw with the media.
Damn I'm old, remember Van Halen opening for Black Sabbath.Prices were different back then too,Only 10.00 US for floor seats.....{sigh) the good 'ole days.
For me is when your'e playing metal on your radio and someone is yelling at you to turn it down. I remember back when i was listening to motorhead some jerk is screaming at me to turn the music off. If he ever yell at me like that again i'm gonna shatter his jaw with my hard fist.
My biggest annoyance is the elitist fan that any metal band or metal sub-genre they don't like isn't metal. Especially if said metal band made it big commercially. There are so many styles. It's ok to not like certain bands or styles, but to completely negate it as metal is rather pretentious to me.
Exactly! That's a part of the reason I normally don't call myself a metalhead (also because I listen to almost everything). The technical death and prog elitists are the worst. They are normally people who have just started to get interested in music as a theoretical subject, so they have this desire to tell everyone about how intellectual they are. I know because i've been there myself.
There should be no war between people who listen to different rock genres. Our real war is against butthurt hipsters and gay ass popsters, 😂 hahaha!!!!
It's ironic that such people even listen to metal or any ''rockish'' genre at all, because jazz is miles ahead in that sphere of everything from rock'n'roll to djent
I am from one of the least Metal countries (India) according to a research. In Asia, rock concerts happen only in Japan or even pop stars only go to Japan, no other country. Its terrible. People always say "U are the first girl I have ever seen who listens to Rock/ Metal" *sigh*
I can relate to that. Surprisingly, when I went to college, I actually ended up having 2 classmates who listened to metal. Other than them, I haven't found another metalhead anywhere else.
Yes, yes, Malaysia ban Lamb Of God and I was upset since they're one of my favourite bands out there. Worst, they don't even let ANY metal bands into Malaysia since they said it was all blasphemy ☹☹
I totally agree with the 'explaning to non-metalheads': it's a pain in the ass... But the after-concert-feeling: I love it! When you hurt all over your body and your voice is gone: you know it was a fucking good concert ^^
Nice video. You just got a new subscriber all the way from the Philippines dude! But I think you forgot one more thing. The Hardcore elitists. You know, that one guy or girl in a certain type of fanbase who shits on other fanbases because their genre isn't "brutal" enough or whatever. basically the type of person who just likes to ruin it for everyone.
What sucks is everyone thinks I'm really negative because I listen to metal. I tell them that I only listen to positive metal but they never believe me! They are the reason I'm so negative!
haha I completely can relate to the after math of going to a show, your neck hurts so much from head banging it feels like it will never go away, just subscribed! We need more cute metal guys like you!
Hey, funny you mentioned Dio, I live real close to where he lived, and my family knows a cousin of his, never met him tho sadly, but I always go to "Dio Day" here in ny
Joey's such a cool guy. Very down to earth and personable. He was good friends with Dio actually. I know that's something it seems like people say a lot, but it is Dio. He knew a lot of people and was a genuine person. I saw George play at a guitar expo at the House of Guitars in Rochester a while back and he signed my best of Dokken cd. Honestly, I don't really like him much. He even said at the expo he started playing guitar to get famous and make money. That's not what music's about, nor should it be.
Metalhead1460 yeah George didn't say much to me but Oni from Lynch Mob was a doll and whoever their bass player is, he's some actor on tv, but he was a sweetie, he asked for a picture with me like he came up to me wanting a picture with his phone haha, but man what I would have gave to meet Dio, he's from cortland (close to me).
I sympathise with all of these things, especially the last one since my favourite singer is Freddie Mercury and I was born in '94. Also, I have had brain surgery and am not allowed to get hit in the head. So I can't headbang unless I want to die.
Kishore Shenoy well doom, black and symphonic metal are the least headbanging metal genres so if I ever have to get brain surgery, I'll just listen to Epica for the rest of my life.
So every metalhead needs to have long hair.Come on dude that's just a immature stereotype.Accessories , long hair , clothing and piercings have nothing to do with listening to metal music.Look at phil anselmo when he was young.Just a black t-shirt with cargo shorts and a shaven head. You don't need this shit to show that you're listening to metal.
Thats true, but based on how your dressed in the metal culture? You'll definitely attract other metalheads. If anything I dress normally because i don't have any band shirts, merch or dark cloths or long hair or any sort of outlook that says HEY I LISTEN TO METAL TOO GUYS!!!! its kinda lonesome not gonna lie... I live in florida... and. most people here DO NOT listen to metal. Except this one guy i knew in my Biology class, dudes in a band, Look up Untomoria they're actually pretty good for a high school metal band.
I have medium hair and will certanly grow it long. But that has nothing to do with being a metalhead, i just love long hair. And i do agree, you don't need to have long hair to be a metalhead.
robin mckinley, the only reason I want long hair is because I think my curly hair would look good if it were long, especially since it's strawberry blonde.
Here’s what I hate: 1. Non-metalheads calling your favorite music “screamo” or “noise” or shit like that 2. Metalheads acting like you’re not metal because you appreciate other genres of music 3. Metalheads acting like you’re not a fan of a certain band if your favorite song is their most popular song. You can be a fan of a band and like their most popular song. It’s not that bad 4. People assuming you’re not a metalhead because you don’t have long hair or anything a metalhead normally wears 5. People saying it’s a “phase” and that you’re always “angry”
#1 finding girls or sane guys into metal (it's impossible) #2 money for concert tickets #3 growing and or taking care of long hair #4 being a citizen and loving fucking metal #5 People assuming shit #6 money to get the sick shit you want to wear #7 the constant inner struggle to not feel like a poser #8 dealing with public insecurity (just fucking blast it and headbang lol) #9 dealing with non metalheads in the family #10 dealing with super religious or anti metal losers #11 finding a GOOD friend or group of friends #12 deciding what shit to wear #13 loving metal so much you fucking die, like shit ur dead, like dead from Mayhem #14 and last but not least you're fucking NECK \m/
1) the elitism in metal culture 2) you get looked down at if you listen to other genres 3) being a female metal fan- encountering misogyny on every step
i agree with #3 100%. It seems like most people in the metal community have respect for underground punk and even hardcore communities. The problem is when core culture gets confused with metal culture, its honestly pretty annoying. Ask a kid in highschool what he thinks metal is, and he will probably describe deathcore or metalcore to you, not music that the majority of people associated with the metal culture actually listen to. Like i said before though, the misogyny is out of fucking control everywhere, and racism can also be a problem depending on where you live. Theres alot of people who dont feel safe at metal shows just based on how they were born, and thats a complete fucking shame.
+Vincent A. The problem is that in the metal scene particularly, men have an obsession with being as masculine as possible, which is why they end up treating women either as "feeble little things that need a strong man" or as just a piece of ass to fuck and prove their masculinity and feed their egos. This of course doesn't go for all metalheads. I have many friends that are into metal
+CountdownSmiles right?! I'm in the metal scene, the Metal Men are teddy bears! They are the perfect gentlemen! Every show I've ever gone to! Everyone I've ever met is soooooo nice! Idk what she's talking about..The men treasure women like gold and take hella great care of them! Especially in the pit!
hahaha. I didn't say that every other metalhead is a dick. I think metalheads are more kind and respectful than "normal" people because they know the suffering of not being understood as a person. I mean I can't tell you how many times people came up to me and said "How are you listening to scream songs?.. I get a headache when I hear it..". Many metalheads have respect for other types of music and therefore other people and this guy sounds like one of those types of people. :D
Yeah, I'm a dude who's growing his hair out, and I eat lots of foods with sauces. It is... quite difficult, to say the least. But hey, I look better with long hair than I did with short hair. Long hair+weight loss=good lookin' me!
Some things that suck are all the misconceptions about metal itself, such as, "It's the devil's music." Aslo, when this happens, I get really pissed, "You listen to metal? But you don’t look or act like a metalhead." For whatever reason people assume all metalheads have long hair and that we'll all douches or something. It makes no sense.
I have found, in my 30+ years of life, that I am not a big fan of many of the "fans" of many things that I love. Be it comic books, music, video games, sports, wrestling, movies, you name it.....there are losers and people who try to "ruin it for everyone else", in EVERY fanbase. Sadly. I do especially hate the "metal bro" mentality. The "I hate the bands you like, they're not 'real metal'" type mentality. That's total BS. No grown ass adult gives a fraction of a shit about what is "metal" and what isn't. You like what you like, and other people like what they like. End of fucking story. I think the "metal community" as a whole would be so much more fun to be a part of, and so much better off for everyone, if the vast majority of fans would grow the fuck up, and actually adopt that kind of mature, intelligent mindset about things. I fucking love metal, have since my teens. But I really hate certain things about the metal/rock fan community.
I never understood the whole 'elitist' mentality that some people have. There are bands I have heard and do not like, but respect the fact that other people do. Vice versa, there are bands in different genres(not just metal) that I like that others don't. To me it's all pointless garbage some like to spew out of their mouths. It doesn't make you cool or manly, it only makes you look like a douche.
There’s a lot of gatekeeping elitism bs in the Metal community. They’re not willing to try anything new constantly bashing kids for not knowing the music despite the fact that music is subjective and not allowing new fans to listen to the music because they weren’t there from the beginning and telling them how to be a fan. It’s a nightmare and it’s killing the genre.
Another thing that sucks is being raised in a religious family and being a metal head, now don't get me wrong, I love Christianity and I'm proud to be one and my dad(a deacon at the church we go too) actually got me into Metallica and sabbath, now I love stuff from ac/dc to cannibal corpse, but the thing that sucks is the older family members who disapprove pretty good on that stuff and you also get some really weird looks when you tell people at church what kind of music you listen to, but I don't care, I love God and I love metal
+Luke Hoseason yeah I know I'm not the only one, this is that thing that doesn't and shouldn't bother you and shouldn't distract you from God, there's always gonna be people who disapprove
#5 our favorite bands become popular, played out! cradle of filth became popular, played out after their album Bitter Suites Of Succubbi :( but best album from Cradle will always be Dusk and her Embrace
It is not bad bro. You are a metalhead from the day you listen a metal song. Even if you don't like metal and you listened to a metal song, you still have a bit metalhead in yourself. I live in Croatia and not many bands come here. Last metal band that was in Croatia was Slayer + Anthrax on June 1st, 2016. It was a great concert. And that was my first metal concert even though I'm 18. I listen to many genres, but that was really my 1st metal concert. And I listen to metal since I was 4. Well, I know I listened to metal when I was like 1, but I can't remember that, but my bro listens to metal and he put like Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Slayer and many more bands. But myself, I started to listen to metal when I was 4. So let's almost whole my life, I listen to metal and after 14 years of listening to metal, I've gone to 1 metal concert. Crazy :)
When you're a huge fan of a less-popular band, you have a chance to see them live, but they're opening for another band, and they only play for like 30 minutes.
+HermanVonMisticric I honestly wouldn't know because I don't know you and you don't know me so we can't Decide if you would kick my ass in a mosh pit xD
That's right, but I think you understand what I mean. I wear earplugs but it doesn't mean that I'm waiting for the end of the concert in the back of the room or sat down behind the sound/light technician, as many people not wearing earplugs do.
My least favorite part about being a metal head is no one really shares my interest in music where I live. Also I hate having to use the internet to get most of my metal posters and CDs. I gave up on long hair because of the food thing. I actually got pissed and cut my hair myself with a scissor. It looked interesting Lol. I had to get my hair fixed the next day. I also looked like a hot chick with long hair so that bothered me. I don't care if someone thinks i'm a devil worshipper. I knew this lady that was a huge Jesus but and she was sure I worshipped the devil because I listened to metal but she felt I could be saved and that God still loved me. So I went along with it and printed pamphlets out to try to convert to satanism. Lol. It was great! =D
When you listen to Infant Annihilator on your phone in your room, accidentally click connect youtube to TV downstairs, while you mom and her friend are watching it.
An additional 4 things: #1: You're a social outcast. Especially when you project your passion for heavy metal onto other people with your sleeves, your shirt and your hair. This is particularly detrimental when you need to start doing adult and accountable things like getting a job. #2: Heavy metal communities are just as pretentious and elitist as the jazz and classical communities. So even sharing your passion with supposedly like-minded individuals often sucks. Especially with online communities, including accusations of successful bands selling out, praising the production quality of records that have dogshit production quality and of course, subgenre Nazism. #3: Teenagers who proclaim their passion for metal do it in the most cringeworthy ways possible. Such as supporting the genre as an alleged act of rebellion. And then making sure everybody knows about it, yet not understanding that people find the way you present yourself gravely unattractive.. This ties in closely with #1. #4: Your passion in 70's heavy metal stands on the doorstep of dad rock. The very thing heavy metal ironically claims to rebel against.
*sigh* Look. I don't have the habit of commenting that often, and by all means, I don't defend: a. The fact some metalheads aren't the way you describe, just that a majory are not b. The specific person that made this video, as I only saw it due to it being recommended by youtube c. And other form of personal attack Now, with that out of the way: 'Social outcast' is a very interesting term to use, especially given that you justify it by a choice of attire, and not mentalities. Sure, I do not deny some of us are indeed outcasts, most of the time it is not due to our hair, or our shirts and sleeves. Instead, it is due to our mentality or the likewise. Also, I like the way you phrase the 'adult' and 'accountable' things, as if long hair or a black shirt do, in any way, stop you from, well, having a job (not talking specifics, but most desk jobs don't give a damn about your hair; at the same time, long hair in a professional ponytail is widely accepted as a 'business look', as long as it's accompanied by a suit, or just simple black shirt), or anything else. (Note: do tell me some other 'adult' things apart from a job. Really. I cannot think of any, maybe except taxes et all, but no one will give a damn about your hair there) The heavy metal communities point you're making is too subjective for me to approach. You may have had contact with too different groups, no professional study was ever made on the subject to be used as proof, and, in the end, you're talking too broad. I won't deny your point, but I can just say 'Most of them are not like that. You're not a metalhead, and have way less contact than me, so you don't know what you're talking' and really, you cannot disprove me. But I cannot prove it either, so I'll just leave that point as moot from both sides. Teenagers who proclaim their passion for metal... Another very, very subjective point. Why? Teenagers in general are *quite* cringeworthy in most of their activities, not just proclaiming metal. Honestly, please don't begin telling me that those who go in clubs to get dead drunk to prove their 'coolness' are not at least as cringy. Seriously. (also, please stop with 'unattractive'. That's a 100% personal claim.) Also, heavy metal does not claim to rebel against something. Heavy metal just said 'Well ol' rock is good an all, but ain't aggressive enough for me. So I'll just make me own rock, only more brutal'. Also, I find it fun how on one hand you claim our 'elitism' is bad, but on the other you use the fact we listen to non-exclusively-metal-stuff (aka. we're not elitist) as another counterargument. Make up your god damn mind. Are we all just elitists or not? Stop using both as an argument! It don't make logic sense, to condemn us for both being *and* not being elitists at the same time. Okay. Sorry for the rant. But you know, I just felt it had to be said. I don't get why you people keep insisting that being a metalhead instantly means you're not social and you can't get a job and whatnot. I've seen considerably more people in my life complaining about metalheads that metalheads doing the stuff you're saying. Sure, I don't say I didn't see some. We, the other metalheads, don't like it either, don't get us wrong. Hell, most of the time, it's us that eventually talk sense back into them. I'll stop now. Thank you for actually reading this all, if you did. If not, too bad, but hey, it's your right, and personal choice.
"Edge of Thorns" is the only one Ive heard so far and its amazing! the best part is: this morning i posted on my FB page asking for new metal bands to get into, so i thank you very much
exactly you don't have to live up to metalhead standards or stereotypes to be a metal head but fuck, headbanging with hair longer than short feels so good
I call the post gig feeling a "bang over", but obviously as a lady all of my guy friends joke around as if its a sex thing haha. Its impossible to get good vinyls in Hong Kong :(
People like to say that I'm not metal because I don't just listen to metal. I listen to everything from Kalin and Myles to Metallica. What do you think?
Listen to whatever the hell you think sounds good. Who cares what they think? I love black/death metal etc. since I was really young, but also love classical, country and 90's dance shit like Aqua. Variety is the spice of life
The worst part for me is not being able to go to certain concerts because of distance or price.
So much this !!!
im 16 i've been to one to many concerts around the us and i have lots of merchandise
it's nice to live in sweden. we have some metal festivals around. and concerts are always close even for me who lives in the middle of nowhere
Jefferzon Jeff one thing that sucks about concerts in Sweden are the 18+ concerts >:(
Pareidolia or age
When you try to listen to metal in your room and everyone else in the house gets angry about it so you have to listen to it quietly
I have that problem all the fucking time
Headphones, dude!!!
+Tronderose but sometimes you want to enjoy it as your background music, if that makes sense, and have it really super loud without anyone complaining
my parents grew with metal so they're good with it
But background music means that the volume is low enough so you can talk with your friends over it etc.. if you want it "really super loud" as you say, it's not background music anymore and you might as well wear headphones ;)
my least favorite thing about being a metal head is that there are hardly any people my age who are also metal heads
This is a very real problem.
same, specially if you are fucking 7 years old. I remember wearing a pantera t-shirt with that age. I remember too that I didn't make friends in school xD
righteous octopus I'm in fifth grade and I met 3 one likes SOAD one likes skillet like me others like pop
righteous octopus I feel like you see more metal heads from late junior high through high school
Jacob Trull oh gosh everyone's assuming I'm like 10 lol. I just finished high school. there were a very small number of people who listened to a few bands here and there but none of them were in to it to the point that I'd call them a metal head, yanno? they were just someone I could mention the new metallica album or new soad album coming to and they'd be like "Oh cool"
I'm pretty sure I was the only kid in the school who even knew who Death was.
maybe it's just my area but I shit you not I literally have one metal head friend and he's like 12 years older than me
When people immediately associate you with being Satanic...
Gabe Rowland yeah, when I told my aunt I listened to metal she asked me if I was a satanist and then went over to stab me with a short knife to "get them evil demons out!"
Gabe Rowland IKR
Telling my mom about ghost and her telling me to stop listening to them -_-
my dad disowned me cause I listen to metal :|
The conflicting feelings when you hear awesome music, but the band uses satanic imagery and you have been raised as a christian.
(I'm pretty lucky on that one though. The only band I listen to, that goes KINDA in that direction is Slipknot.)
I hate when I say I like metal and people say "oh you mean screamo music." It makes me wanna punch them.
For real. Screamo is emo music, not metal.
Yeah, screamo is for angry kids, metal isn't.
Well, there is a lot of screaming in Metal I guess, how should they know?^^
+T Hitsugaya not necessarily, have you heard "in the end" by bvb. It's a pretty good song without any screams.
Eric Gilbreath same they made fun of me cause I'm black and I listen to metal
the struggle of being 154cm tall (5 feet) at metal concerts.. I die
Setgiga •_• Fucking same. Like being 5 feet in a mosh pit 😂😂
Yoooo word I get fucked up lmao
Man it's the best, yes five foot and change so I make sure I hit the big guys and I go flying! It's brilliant!
SERIOUSLY. Normally my guy and I get there early enough so we're in the front, but if we're a bit farther behind then I suffocate in the crowd.
The struggle of being 209cm.......
When you have to argue about how metal musicians are WAY more talented than pop "musicians".
Ifkr!
Bambuzzsprosse correct.
Bambuzzsprosse I do dislike that some people seem to think that they're better than other people because that they like rock music, but on average, metal musicians seem to be more talented at playing instruments and at singing than pop musicians. Michael Jackson is a pretty good singer though, even though I don't like his style of singing.
send them some links with live concerts without playback haha ! that would explain everything to them without you wasting saliva and time!
The worst one I've been told constantly is metal is a phase
Yup, been there heard that. Metal is not a phase, it's a lifestyle
@@Shadowsdeity its not a lifestyle is music
Me: listen to slayer
Friend: Oh, you are listening to rock music?
Me: facepalm
Lol that's funny af 😂😂😂
@@metalhead2017 I was listening to infant Anailator decapitation fornication and a little could be herd out of my head phones and this kid said you are listening to some crazy rock I wanted to die there
That's so true
Strictly speaking, metal evolved from hard rock, so I'd argue metal falls under the umbrella of "rock".
Metal is Rock
3 things that suck about being a female metalhead:
1. A lot of people assume that you can't POSSIBLY be into metal on your own- you MUST be at the show because a guy made you go with him, the band merch you're wearing your MUST be your boyfriend's, or you're wearing it to GET a boyfriend. Which brings me to number
I MAY need to make a response video...
Yes, yes, and yes!!
Woo hoo! Yeah! I hate the t-shirts that they make specifically for "girls". Can't you make a t-shirt that fits EVERYONE? :O They just use that to charge more for their shirts sometimes, lol.
All of these! I usually go with the men's Tees cause, fuck it, they actually fit.
ugh and merch for women can be really sluty
Being called a Emo..... cuts me deep...
Lol
Yep
I accepted it
being called goth annoys me XD i dont wear all black offten bc i dont like wearing all black all the time bc its boring but it just mc annoys me when people call me goth when im wearing corpse paint lel
This dumb ass kid in my class is always like why are u so emo he also thought I was lesbian! Like omg can I just be me without being labeled
Yep, so true
People that have no idea how deep metal can be, and assume all of it is Satanic, nonsensical screaming.
the most frustrating aspect of it
"I can't even understand the vocals, it's just noise"
And don't even try to recommend some Prog/Heavy Metal that actually has clean vocals to them, most won't evne bother because of their prejudice against metal -.-
+Felidae Iustus and then when one of our heros die (like Dio, Lemmy, Paul Gray, etc.) they suddenly become huge fans
Tomas Torres
because of course they always loved their work...
Satanic...what is satanic? Certain words?
OK. Im a bald 40 year old metal head (across the genre and also a fan of whatever rocks my world.)
So excuse my lack of current metal lingo.(i dont give a fuck but misunderstandings bore me more than splaining.)
How did you feel after the last time you Slammed out?
Shook yur breans to oatmeal?
REally had some fucking move you album or track.
How did you feel, anticipating it, during and after?
Good i bet.
How is that bad?
How did you feel ; before, during and after Church/mosque/whatever?
Which has had a more positive overall effect on your life aside from the shit from the occasional single minded and limited idiot?
So
Which wins?
Church or metal?
Satan is just a cool character to scream about LOL :D its a fucking story.
If people thought logically about religion for all of about 3 minutes. They´d fucking blow their minds at the utter stupidity and waste of time inherent in it.
One thing to me that sucks about being a metalhead is the ppl around me who just judge me for listening to metal saying I have a crap taste in music
Dank Jake 2nd Channel people like that obviously don't know what music is with their mumble rap and gay Justin bieber pop shit
XlethalX most likely they listen to rap or pop so you can say the same thing to them
Don't worry. They lack brain cells.
Then they seriously don't know what they're missing! I love rock and roll and metal!
XlethalX if I were you, I’d come back with the “rap isn’t better” comment
The ABSOLUTE WORST THING is that nobody else likes metal, so it's not on the radio, or at parties, or anywhere else you'd want to mosh with your bros
I know what you mean. Can't stand Hip Hop. Absolute garbage and terrible excuse for music. I don't have any friends that listen to any heavy metal, I have one friend that listens to classic rock.
Why don't you just listen to other stuff then? I think earl sweatshirt still makes music? idk I'm just trying to help...
+professional troll hunter didn't realize how chatty I was there 😅 blame it on the oxy
Things that suck for me:
People always make me the same questions about my hair
In Italy is not so easy find a metal shop and bands don't come here so frequently (especially in Rome)
I'm the only metalhead in my group of friends
People think I worship Satan
And they think you are satanist for listening to metal
Same.. i hate it
#1 When people in Wal-Mart stare at you like your gonna go on a killing spree just 'cos your wearing a metal band's shirt.
#2 When someone asks "How can you even understand what they're saying?" or "How is it even good music if you can't understand what they're saying?".
#3 When your listening to metalcore and someone asks "You like death metal?" and your like "It's not freaking death metal."
#4 When you just love a certain band but they happen to be deathcore or grindcore and other metalheads act like you've committed treason.
#5 When you are wearing all black or are wearing a metal band's shirt and someone asks "Are you gothic?" I'm like "Just 'cos I wear black doesn't mean I'm freaking gothic!"
all very true...\\m//
Mysterious Gamer Dude your 3rd point..in my case its different, i was listening to metalcore but my classmate ask me if I'm listening to nightcore
Saw a random boyinaband video where he talked about this kind of thing, and he made a great point for #2, and his point was "Oh, so music has to be understandable for it to be good? Can someone please go tell Psi, I'm sure Gangnam Style wasn't one of the most popular songs a few years ago."
Samoclese That's a perfect comparison. Next time someone does something like described in #2 I should say that to them.
Mysterious Gamer Dude To be honest,I don't blame people who can't understand scratchy growling and screaming because it REALLY is hard to decipher.
Throw that fucking card at him
I’d run at him and scare him lol
Tell him to shove it.
The Papa Murphy’s crowd is it’s own beast.
Yeah..... Tends to happen
I never got that though.
XD
qwertydog979 Thats funny:)
One terrible thing about beeing a metalhead is the Advertising from ed sheeran just before the Video starts😑
Yes that ruins my day! 😡
You're a great example of the metalhead culture and community.
Intelligent, kind, respectful, accepting, etc.
I'm a metalhead too, 80's heavy metal primarily.
Metalhead for life\m/
So... Many... Freaking... Genres...
Yeah, I have the same problem. I also love folk metal which just confuses people completely
Aw man how did you know?!
Technical progressive psychedelic mathcore
Death djent gothespaghet power romance folk religious black avant-garde d00manime 1337 html5 Siberian clamat0cor3 Fadades love making ambient seapunk hand cream metal
hipster
;D
I hate when people call me a satanist because metal isn't about being a satanist it's about the music.(there is more satanist in pop)
John Harney not really sure about that haha
I mean pop is soo fucking much about sex and lust is a thing u would use to describe the devil and metal is more about feelings and truth
Edge_meme seen from that angle I agree !
Either way, they don't seem to realise most metal is fantasy
My go to response is, "hail satan" gets the idiots to shut up and go away. I'm atheist BTW.
when you have short hair and are trying to grow it out :(
@MonoChronicle Parents act like they can dictate every little thing about their child
Can't relate... I am a girl 😂
The in between of short and long hair is shit
Day after concert feeling is called "a bangover"
when you have 3 concerts in 2 weeks
+Wenxing Wang owwwwwwww
oh so that's what it's called XD
+Angel Westbrook haha I like to think so, it's pretty clever.
wow that name is doooope!!
I agree with your points. another thing that sucks is when you tell people you're a metalhead, they assume you're satanist. also, when you're still a teenager and everyone says it's just a phase. it is quite irritating to be a teen and a female metalhead. lol
Right.
+charles dill most of the time I'm told "girls can't listen to metal" or "being a metal head is not feminine" I personally don't care xD
Like every fucking day on the train. Its why i never leave home without my earbuds
Adriana Parker yeah but take care your ears low down the volume ;-)
+Alexis Nicolas Always.
Where I work, metal is the most liked music (judging by how much of it is on the jukeboxes). That doesn't mean that it's on every day, as we like other forms of music too, but there is this one particular person who likes to put on the same songs every week (to the point where I want to stick pins in my ears whenever I hear ABBA).
i live in a place were people love country ugh everyone usually gets all pissy when they realize i dont like their music
1.) "You're such an Emo."
2.) "I love metal too! System of a Down, BVB, KoRn and Slipknot ❤️"
3.) "Listen to the songs backwards, it has satanic lyrics. It's the devils music!111!!"
4.) You get dizzy/neck hurts after head banging for too long.
5.) (everyone says this cause I'm 13) "Oh it's just a phase you'll grow outta it."
6.) You can't play music around non metal head friends.
You'll be a metal god in the future
Number 7 is so true
omg it pisses me the fuck off when im at school and say im a metal head and everyone is all like "Really??? you don't dress emo though..." and i have to explain to the dumbasses about subgenres and they still don't get it. or they avoid you or get creeped out because for some dumb fucking reason they think you worship the devil.
I hate it when I get chosen to be the DJ and when I start playing rock or metal everyone starts bitching.
As someone who listens to BVB,I hate when people say that BVB is an emo band. For fuck sake.. The cancer community is emo, or "emo". Their first album was kinda emoish, I agree, but the other ones are not.
Being called goth or emo when you're clearly brutal af it bothers me so much
best comment ever bro XD
yes omg
+Darius Evans One of your favourite bands are Chelsea Grin, Asking Alexandria and Motionless In White, so they usually judge you that way...
+MEyck97 dude I haven't update my TH-cam since fucking 9th grade
This
one of the things i hate the most... "youre just going through a phase"
I'd like to poop on them for saying that
my dad years ago haha
+ThiscouldbeaName Same LOL!!! He said that to me in 1988. still going through the "phase". \m/😉\m/
Thank you!
the first thing I think of after hearing it is something like "luckily I went through it already, unfortunately it won't ever happen to you" >.
I hate it when I tell people I'm a metal head and people say "oh me too I love black veil brides" and you have to tell them why black veil brides isn't metal
MadBull RC when they say that we gotta say "Y'all wanna single"
They emo/posers...
I love black veil brides, but Ik that they're not metal :P
I'mTheBlackVeilBrideThatHauntsYourDreamsEveryNight you're an emo not a metalhead then mate
ket amine How am I an emo??
METAL RULES!!!! |m|
Don't let them tell you what you're "supposed to listen to" stupid rappers.
just say you do listen to rap and show them a song by slipknot XD
Doddery feline 😂😂. Good point. Tried it with my brother and he freaked out and put his headphones on
My friends try to understand it, bless their kind souls, they even listen to it to a certain extent, but the stuff I like is clearly not their thing.
I listen to rap and metal. But people automatically call me a satanist for liking metal. Fucking pop lovers
If your with non metalhead friends you automatically lose aux cord privileges
+Regal Snorlax dude i hear you i have those problems i deal with personally they kind of it has me pissed off a lot all the time
+ryan hicks I've lost my stereo privileges at work. Got a bunch of coworkers who only ever listen to pop, hiphop and rap.
1 like= 1 prayer :(
my buddies only ever listen to rap and dubstep... i hate it
+chris born
Same. Along with Pop and Country for me...
Another thing that sucks is when you're a small metalhead (7-12 years) and you can't go to concerts alone cause you're so young and you know that your parents hate metal and they aren't going to go with you, that's my case :'v
Mapi lol poker face Man that sucks,I'm 11 and my dad loves metal so we go to concerts all the time
That's also kinda my case, but also everytime I hope to see a concert it gets canceled.
My mom and me both love metal, we were gonna go to so many concerts this summer
My dad likes metal so he will take me to a local pub where metal bands play which is cool
1. Elitism.2. Elitism.3. Elitism.4. Elitism.5. Elitism.
lol this
That too.
You don't know what elitism is
e·lit·ism
əˈlēdˌizəm/
noun
the attitude or behavior of a person or group who regard themselves as belonging to an elite.
yeah i'm pretty sure people who tell others that their opinions about music are objectively wrong are elitist lmao
HarbingerOfTruth1 It seems as if you just got schooled.
Going (being dragged) to a party that doesn't have any metal.
Even worse when you hate interacting with people.
Oh do I have a video for you... th-cam.com/video/HxT4i8lymj8/w-d-xo.html
That’s why I always carry a testament or exodus cd with me just in case
@@satanskitty5341 no one cares
Party’s are the worst for Metalheads. I have to talk to people and I can’t listen to metal
@@dylanrus8117 All you need is a pair of earbuds and you're all set.
"Not being metal enough" because I'm too lazy to take care of long hair.
its a pain in the ass tbh . its up there with people asking "are you a satanist?", "How can you listen to that noise" or when somebody in public asks if your into metal and proceeds to pop quiz you even though the "heaviest" band they've ever listened to was trivium ... :/
XTN94
There's also getting lectures about how it's "evil" from family members
DenMon 2019 its never just once either. I hear them a few times a year.

I feel ya. Also sub-note I play DnD so double the lectures!
Trix gore Good for you. Just because it is fashionable doesn't mean that it suits you.
I'm more a rocker than metal but know the struggle of being labeled weird or satanist to just listen that kind of music.
a satanic don't worship devil, go search "laveyan satanism" on google
"Rocker" is literally just another term for metalhead. Metal heads called themselves rockers all the time
Im both, it was rlly hard for me to make friends in first grade up to 8th grade, whenever i try to bring my favourite artist/singer Ozzy Osbourne the kids would just straight up ignore me, and continue to talk about one direction. 8th grade was extremely easy for me to find friends who love ozzy and all of the stuff i also loved like aerosmith and alice cooper. Im in 9th grade now and they are still my friends, thank god
Where do you live? In every 1980s comedy about the bad boy new kid who introduces the simple country folk teenagers to rock 'n' roll?
The worst for me is being haRd finding friends :(
Old comment, I know. but if you have problems finding friends because you like different music than them...
a) those people aren’t worth your time anyways
b) it’s not about your music tastes, you just dont match
Why do you have to find friends that necessarily like Metal? Only one of mines listens to Metal but the others don't, and they are still my friends
Hey friend :) hmu on insta @choking_hyena
When people think that just because you listen to metal, they think you're a satanist. That's the worst feeling cause I'm a Christian
Same. Then you have to explain that there are even Christian Metal bands.
Yeah although that misconception is understandable considering lol.
SAME!!!! I love Suicide Silence and Disturbed and people always think that! I listen to a ton of metal but people think it's just evil ;-;
have you ever considered that if there is a belief in satan it also means a belief in a god. and also a conformity to organized religion.
Twisted sister had that happen to them and I forgot who but one them has a tattoo of Jesus so he's not really a satanist then. There was an interview of them discussing it
For me its when people give me entire novels on why Nu Metal is not actual metal
It's not.
Some nu metal is metal like slipknot
+tomcornhole Who's Otep?
+tomcornhole No, you look like a 14 year old girl on her period.
That makes no sense. Worshipping satan and being posessed are two completely different things :P
+Tronderose+ It was a joke that you just missed.
or you trying to be troll :D
Or they immediately assume the bands you listen to worship Satan. I told someone I listen to Megadeth (I love Metallica too, I am not starting the debate) and they immediately said, "Don't they worship Satan or something?" I spent a good 30 minutes to them explaining how they use Satanic themes to make them seem scarier, or just to screw with the media.
Realcat -#*
I must say I have not been completely honset with you, I am not a satanist, I actually follow the Norse gods, that are way cooler.
Ørjan Jåsund
Nope, you're Satanist.
Music is just sounds that people like and enjoy, calm down guys and just chill.
Damn I'm old, remember Van Halen opening for Black Sabbath.Prices were different back then too,Only 10.00 US for floor seats.....{sigh) the good 'ole days.
D Garrett that must've been amazing 💕😍
I'm seriously jealous...what a concert that must have been!
Lucky. It's like $150 for slipknot tickets
Now eddie is gone i'll never get to see him and van halen :/
I hate how people think its weird to listen to metal. Thats not always the case.
yes it is...
Metal isn't weird as long as you don't dig TOO far down into the genres. Like porno-metal. I remember hearing about it.
+Dick Baguette very true
love metal but i still like stuff like pierce the veil, bring me the horizon,AA and stuff like that
Gamers Paradise thats bad metal. Get into pantera, slayer, devildriver, ect.
Cilff Burton is Dead :(
Juan Zambrano ;-;
when you tell people you listen to metal and they think you worship Satan. I get this a lot
also being called gothic all the time
For me is when your'e playing metal on your radio and someone is yelling at you to turn it down.
I feel like youre referencing avenger sevenfold haters
there is a difference between an elitist and a purist, a purist listens to all metal and other stuff too yet still loathes nu and core
There should be no war between people who listen to different rock genres. Our real war is against butthurt hipsters and gay ass popsters, 😂 hahaha!!!!
It's ironic that such people even listen to metal or any ''rockish'' genre at all, because jazz is miles ahead in that sphere of everything from rock'n'roll to djent
you can be a metal head without long hair ( ._.)
Lol exactly... You just need good hearing to listen to metal.
ChronoWind music got no boundaries bro... You're seem to be shackled by 21st gen stereotypical metal trend.
Short hair doesn't tangle up too often. I rather take that over taking 1 hour to untangling my damn hair.
@ChronoWind lul tell that to phil anselmo
NO YOU FUCKING POSER
I am from one of the least Metal countries (India) according to a research. In Asia, rock concerts happen only in Japan or even pop stars only go to Japan, no other country. Its terrible. People always say "U are the first girl I have ever seen who listens to Rock/ Metal" *sigh*
Adya Dass F
I understand. I'm Pakistani female Metalhead.
I can relate to that. Surprisingly, when I went to college, I actually ended up having 2 classmates who listened to metal. Other than them, I haven't found another metalhead anywhere else.
When you find a new band and then you find out they don't come to your country
Yes, yes, Malaysia ban Lamb Of God and I was upset since they're one of my favourite bands out there. Worst, they don't even let ANY metal bands into Malaysia since they said it was all blasphemy ☹☹
@@sidthejovian5105 that sucks bro

I totally agree with the 'explaning to non-metalheads': it's a pain in the ass... But the after-concert-feeling: I love it! When you hurt all over your body and your voice is gone: you know it was a fucking good concert ^^
I want to go to one so bad but I'm not old enough
Thank you for the sub! I appreciate it. and don't worry, I plan on doing more of these videos haha
+Blackmetal Werewolf (Blackmetalwerewolf) cool. keep it metal!
Philippines here too .love metal. hails!\_/
+Chill Kitty Ph cool.

What sucks is everyone thinks I'm really negative because I listen to metal. I tell them that I only listen to positive metal but they never believe me! They are the reason I'm so negative!
What?
When people think you like Pierce the Veil when you say you like metal, that's the worst.
When you do a corpse paint and somebody thinks that you’re doing the kiss makeup
haha I completely can relate to the after math of going to a show, your neck hurts so much from head banging it feels like it will never go away, just subscribed! We need more cute metal guys like you!
Hey, funny you mentioned Dio, I live real close to where he lived, and my family knows a cousin of his, never met him tho sadly, but I always go to "Dio Day" here in ny
I also live in NY! Have you had the chance to meet Joey Belladonna yet? He's from Oswego and still lives in the Syracuse area.
Metalhead1460 no I haven't had the chance to meet him yet, I wish, I have met Joan Jett twice tho, and George Lynch.
Kishore Shenoy Damn it must be so bad not to headbang :/
Kishore Shenoy can't you headbang without hitting your head?x
As long as there is space which there rarely is at a metal concert.
Very true! Unless you're right at the front by the barrier. x
Except this one guy i knew in my Biology class, dudes in a band,
Look up Untomoria they're actually pretty good for a high school metal band.
I have medium hair and will certanly grow it long. But that has nothing to do with being a metalhead, i just love long hair. And i do agree, you don't need to have long hair to be a metalhead.
Heroe Del Infinito oh yea im aware that appearence doesnt make you constitutionally metal. BUT it does indicate you do listen to it lol
No you don't. Phil Anselmo even back then you could tell he was a metalhead. Scott Ian of Anthrax is bald bit you can still tell. To each their own.
robin mckinley, the only reason I want long hair is because I think my curly hair would look good if it were long, especially since it's strawberry blonde.
a lot of the underground BM tapes/vinyls/shirts aren't available :( lol
people think we are all satanist and I hate that
Here’s what I hate:
1. Non-metalheads calling your favorite music “screamo” or “noise” or shit like that
2. Metalheads acting like you’re not metal because you appreciate other genres of music
3. Metalheads acting like you’re not a fan of a certain band if your favorite song is their most popular song. You can be a fan of a band and like their most popular song. It’s not that bad
4. People assuming you’re not a metalhead because you don’t have long hair or anything a metalhead normally wears
5. People saying it’s a “phase” and that you’re always “angry”
"Judas Priest don't have screaming in it"..........
#1 finding girls or sane guys into metal (it's impossible)
#2 money for concert tickets
#3 growing and or taking care of long hair
#4 being a citizen and loving fucking metal
#5 People assuming shit
#6 money to get the sick shit you want to wear
#7 the constant inner struggle to not feel like a poser
#8 dealing with public insecurity (just fucking blast it and headbang lol)
#9 dealing with non metalheads in the family
#10 dealing with super religious or anti metal losers
#11 finding a GOOD friend or group of friends
#12 deciding what shit to wear
#13 loving metal so much you fucking die, like shit ur dead, like dead from Mayhem
#14 and last but not least you're fucking NECK \m/
I’m a sane guy lol
1) the elitism in metal culture
2) you get looked down at if you listen to other genres
3) being a female metal fan- encountering misogyny on every step
#3 particularly.
Every community has those assholes lol, that's just humanity.
i agree with #3 100%.
When your 2 favorite bands are touring together... but its on the other side of the fucking world
I think you are the kindest metalhead on earth.
C'mon bro! We are normal people ahahah
+Redbeat best comment to touch my heart
Another thing is that people think that your possesed or worship the devil
I'm a girl with long hair and the food thing is actually relatable
Nora Thompson I’m a dude with long hair and I second this haha
Yeah, I'm a dude who's growing his hair out, and I eat lots of foods with sauces. It is... quite difficult, to say the least. But hey, I look better with long hair than I did with short hair. Long hair+weight loss=good lookin' me!
Some things that suck are all the misconceptions about metal itself, such as, "It's the devil's music." Aslo, when this happens, I get really pissed, "You listen to metal? But you don’t look or act like a metalhead." For whatever reason people assume all metalheads have long hair and that we'll all douches or something. It makes no sense.
I just witnessed a person say that Justin Bieber has more talent than Dream Theater...

I have to explain sub-genres to my “metalhead” friends

Another thing that sucks is being raised in a religious family and being a metal head, now don't get me wrong, I love Christianity and I'm proud to be one and my dad(a deacon at the church we go too) actually got me into Metallica and sabbath, now I love stuff from ac/dc to cannibal corpse, but the thing that sucks is the older family members who disapprove pretty good on that stuff and you also get some really weird looks when you tell people at church what kind of music you listen to, but I don't care, I love God and I love metal
I know how you feel man I went through the same think
true jc metal is cool
+green dreems I'm not catholic I'm church of Christ big difference
+Philip Medina jc metal? Sorry I'm not following
+Luke Hoseason yeah I know I'm not the only one, this is that thing that doesn't and shouldn't bother you and shouldn't distract you from God, there's always gonna be people who disapprove
That feeling when you check ticket prices on your favorite band's show and you're wondering, do you need food this month.
#5 our favorite bands become popular, played out! cradle of filth became popular, played out after their album Bitter Suites Of Succubbi :( but best album from Cradle will always be Dusk and her Embrace
Abel De Leon I like midian the most
Is it bad that i ve been a metalhead for 10 years and ive never been to a metal concert cause bands that i listen to dont come to my country
It's not. I kinda have same problem.
Crazy :)
Same here, even worse because I don't have anyone to go to concerts with.
Yeah my brother was a metalhead before but know he is into that hardstyle
When you're a huge fan of a less-popular band, you have a chance to see them live, but they're opening for another band, and they only play for like 30 minutes.
"I like anything smothered in gravy"
I couldn't agree more 😂
There is an invention called earplugs, you should use 'em if you want to listen to your music in your 40s and up xD
damn straight. there's nothing metal about tinnitus.
Amen
only bitches use earplugs.
When you have short hair and dress normally but other metal heads look at you like you’re a poser or have no idea that you like metal.
When you listen to Infant Annihilator on your phone in your room, accidentally click connect youtube to TV downstairs, while you mom and her friend are watching it.
An additional 4 things:
#1: You're a social outcast.
Yea the community is terrible. Full of elitist. I keep my music to myself these days.
Yep 100% agree.
Tim Heidecker does dad rock, so it looks cooler now.
*sigh*
Look.
I don't have the habit of commenting that often, and by all means, I don't defend:
a. The fact some metalheads aren't the way you describe, just that a majory are not
b. The specific person that made this video, as I only saw it due to it being recommended by youtube
c. And other form of personal attack
Now, with that out of the way:
'Social outcast' is a very interesting term to use, especially given that you justify it by a choice of attire, and not mentalities.
Really. I cannot think of any, maybe except taxes et all, but no one will give a damn about your hair there)
The heavy metal communities point you're making is too subjective for me to approach.
That's a 100% personal claim.)
Also, heavy metal does not claim to rebel against something.
People like HJames are idiots who will blame everyone but themselves when the economy tanks.
I just looked up Savatage because of you \m/
awesome! what did you think of them?
"Edge of Thorns" is the only one Ive heard so far and its amazing! the best part is: this morning i posted on my FB page asking for new metal bands to get into, so i thank you very much
Right on. When ever you get the chance check out the album Hall of the Mountain King. You will not be disappointed
Hall oof the mountain King rules!
Being a former/closet metal head now, just seeing that you got someone else to look up Savatage is fantastic. Liked, and subscribed keep it up man.
Also, people think you’re going through “THE phase”
My least favorite is that I can't blast my music in my room because still live with parents...
"What's up rocker!?"🤦♂️
Ikr! It’s Thrasher ffs!
Everybody asking if your parents/neighbours aren't annoyed by you being a metalhead
I hate it 😬😬
lol "are your neighbors scared that you worship Satan?" 😐
hah no such problem, Neighbours like loud music, and dad is a metalhead.
,,Haha, your neighbours probably love you..." God, how I hate these people
My favorite was,
Neighbors: Play your drums quieter, or we'll do a formal noise complaint.
It was 12 pm.
I know im late, but this is still one of the most relatable videos on TH-cam.
I'm a metal head and I don,t have long hair, I did but not anymore
same here
untrve
Yeah i can't grow long hair but i'm also a metalhead
exactly you don't have to live up to metalhead standards or stereotypes to be a metal head but fuck, headbanging with hair longer than short feels so good
True...
This video speaks to me on an intimate level....
I call the post gig feeling a "bang over", but obviously as a lady all of my guy friends joke around as if its a sex thing haha. Its impossible to get good vinyls in Hong Kong :(
"bang over" haha that's fucking gold XD I'm going to start using that!
im only looking at your hair throughout the whole 8 minutes long...look so smooth and im friggin jealousssssss....
People like to say that I'm not metal because I don't just listen to metal. I listen to everything from Kalin and Myles to Metallica. What do you think?
Yup, same with me because I aslo really enjoy 90s rap.
i know i am definitely not millitant like some people are, this guy is not millitant which i appreciate haha.
i like metal, rock, and classical.
That drives me CRAZY...apparently you aren't supposed to be well rounded in music if you like metal...which is bullshit lol
Listen to whatever the hell you think sounds good. Who cares what they think? I love black/death metal etc. since I was really young, but also love classical, country and 90's dance shit like Aqua. Variety is the spice of life
Thank you all for helping me clear this up.
