Nice review! Just traded up our base 2016 for the Limited (Sport Tech) 2019 today. First impressions: the suspension is WAY smoother than the 2016 while still feeling really planted. The rev hang is drastically reduced over the 2016. The clutch feels better and much easier to shift smoothly (probably partly due to the reduced rev hang) so I suspect my passengers will appreciate that. The infotainment system is much better for sure and Apple CarPlay is really slick. The Harman Kardon sound system is very good - much better than the base system we had in the 2016 but still not as good as the Rockford Fosgate system we had in our 2011 Mitsubishi. We upgraded to the STI catback exhaust and I love the deep rumble - with no performance gain, it might very well be a waste of money but that purr is so good. The 2019 has darker accents on the 6 o'clock spoke on the steering wheel, around the shifter, and on the climate control knobs but for some reason the original brushed nickel remains around the vents; I don't understand why they didn't match them. The leather seats have a nicer fit and finish than the leather in the 2015 I had test-drove. So far, this 2019 is everything I hoped it would be. Hope these notes are a helpful addition to this great review for anyone considering the 2019.
At the very least, I will say you helped me out. I am saving up for a 2015-2019 STI, and have a google doc full of minute little differences between model years- and your information helped a lot! Thanks!
Great review again GP. Honestly. If I came out of a 10 year comma and you told me that was a 2010 wrx I wouldn't think for a minute " wow that car is ahead of its time." The touch screen and rear cam etc are good and modern. The styling and engine seems to be stagant for too long. The wrx vs evo debate is dead.
Thanks for the review! I just picked up my 2019 Subaru WRX Premium (WR Blue Pearl)! Love it! I previously owned the 2002 WRX hatchback and 2008 WRX hatchback!
The 2019 radios ( w/o the Harman Kardon upgrade) sound significantly better than the 2016-2018 Fujitsu-Ten Starlink head units. The 18's should have come with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.
It is in fact a sin to order a CVT with a vehicle that offers the 6 speed manual. Shame. I test drove the 2019 base model and was blown away...fit and finish were more than I expected.
I guess no one is going to address the sloppiness of the wrx shifter. I have the 18 model. Perrin shift stop helps address the issues. But getting in the 19 model.... no change. HOWEVER, I love my f*****g wrx. So... props to you for taking the time to review the car bro!
Buying a 19 shortly. Comes with the STI short throw. I didn't seem to notice a ton of sloppiness in that one. Is that only an issue with the stock shifter?

Obviously the WRX has picked up a lot of power. The STI obviously being stagnant. I was talking to my wife about that yesterday, that it used to be a force to be reckoned with 10+ years ago. Now beating an STI isn't such a big deal ha

Jonathan Bridges got you. I kinda wish I would have waited a month or so on getting my 2018 WRX because I honestly miss that feature that’s the only thing I can kind of complain about. It was in my 2016 Jetta I gave to the lady 😔
Just about every 2019 wrx I looked at had a Popular Package (#1, 2,or 3 - - $775 - $1002) tacked on to it which includes the useless to me, $358, mirror w/homelink. To switch to a non-homelink mirror, is another $238 either way you look at it. I don't like how Subaru does their pop pkg as they are different and don't build on one another, just swap/omit items. Luckily I found one w/o the CF trunk garnish which is absolutely useless, even more than the hl mirror. But I'll still have to add the armrest extention (👎). The audio is minimally acceptable and encourages owners to select the R-Fosgate replacement speakers.
@@mikaelafox6106 Hi Mikaela, it's because of the steel belt and pully design that they use to transfer power. They don't transfer power efficiently and the belts tend to snap easily around 80k to 100k miles, just about when the warranty on them ends. It's not Subaru's fault, it's just that the CVT is a weak design, due to the steel belt being the weakest link in it, and that goes for all CVTs. I give Subaru credit that they build them in house, at least. They're meant for lower power and torque vehicles and for high fuel efficiency. With the less powerful models like the 2.5i Legacy/Outback, Forester, Crosstreck, and Impreza, they're actually a smart choice for people who prioritize fuel efficiency and won't beat on the car. The fact that CVTs are used for the WRX, 3.6R Legacy/Outback and Ascent, which are significantly higher power vehicles, it dumbfounds me that Subaru doesn't use normal stronger autos for them. If a CVT breaks, it's better to get a new one than have it rebuilt. Check out videos on Subaru CVT repairs and you'll see why lol. That being said, the CVT in my 2016 Outback is fine right now at 44k (cross my fingers), but I really wish I had the manual. It'd be faster and deliver power more efficiently. Then again, it's my first car, it hasn't failed me yet, it has character thanks to the engine, it's simple. I'm very grateful that I have it and I love it. :) I hope I answered your question.
Jordan Berrish You’ve definitely answered my question, thank you! I’m shopping for a new car and I want something sporty. This car has everything I want but I don’t have the dexterity for a stick shift. My parent’s 2016 Rogue has CVT, but my dad wants to trade it in for the forester sport. Maybe he should! Anyway, thanks for the explanation. Makes a ton of sense.
Own a Pure Red 18 WRX. Great car. I do think Subaru must step their game up for 2020. Complete redesign, much more HP, or at the very least make it lighter.
Push start, key start, who gives a fuck? The car starts. Thats what matters. In 13 years of driving not once have I felt inconvienced by turning a key.

Make it a reality. Get a decent paying job, be smart with your money, be patient and you will get it. Keep putting the car into your consciousness and you will get it. I own a stage 2 2011 subaru wrx. I was smart with my money and worked hard to get it. Just make sure you have extra cash for repairs that will pop up.
Absolutely useless review, nice job for the dealership dude. Another version of a MYTH that is better than the car itself. It makes everyone think it’s an awesome car, when in fact: - it’s VERY noisy inside (tires+wind) especially on highway, and when on gravel, you hear every rock hitting the car in the wheel wells - very sensitive to gas quality, ECU will pull the timing (reduce power output) when it’s hot outside (very noticeable heat soak) and/or gas is not 93, will make you feel like you drive a regular manual Impreza. - the car requires an experienced driver with gooood reaction time, because to enjoy driving it you’ll need nearly perfect gear shifting skills (kids, don’t buy WRX as your first car - you'll regret it) - to utilize the acceleration from a stop, you’ll have to launch the car, which gets pretty annoying because of all vibration and noise and perfect shifting required otherwise you’ll induce tranny shock while shifting 1-2-3. You’ll most likely hate doing it daily and then you start driving like everyone else and regret you didn’t get automatic transmission - Can’t nearly match Audi S3/S4 in performance. - AWD? Boxer engine with low center of gravity? How many of you are going to race to feel the difference? - Your passengers will most likely get annoyed or motion sick when you launch and go on and off the throttle all the time, because it's just how the car likes to go. You need to give the car a good impulse off the start to use the boost that propels the car, and in the 1st gear it's hard to catch without over revving. Then you need a perfect shift to the 2nd, or the engine bogs down or kicks you way too fast. Wait wait, then in the 2nd, you give it a moment to come on boost. If it's hot outside, you are NOT going to enjoy it. Good luck. - At about 4500 rpm the car stops pulling hard, it has to be revved to keep the steam coming. - Rev hang is there to keep the engine on boost while you plug in gears, that's how the stock tune works and it is annoying. Yes, it’s fun to do pulls in 3-4-5 gears (when there's enough air going through the scoop to cool down the TMI). Yes, the stock ECU tune is a weirdo but it's done to protect your engine at any temperature (I highly doubt that Subaru engineers are dumb when it comes to engine tuning). Yes, it can do up to 35 MPG on highway if you go the speed limit. Yes, it looks nice. Sound system is not junk, but lacks bass. Yes, it handles great but ride is very stiff. Yes the interior is not bad and seats are comfy. I own a WRX 2019. There are more cons than pros in this car and I would not recommend it. Jetta GLI is a sweetheart, try it - amazing driveability with MT. Honda Civic Si/Type R are fabulous. Subaru WRX is just too raw. Now, mark my word - the Rex will challenge you every day. You will either force yourself to become a better driver or sell it with first opportunity you get. Unless you have some balls to just accept the Subaru love and carry on, possibly modding it to overcome this lack of the driveability with more power... When you fully realize all described above, you’ll end up having a loan to pay for several years and most likely, buyer's remorse. It's a very special car folks. It's not faster than most of the competitors (GLI, Civic, Veloster N, etc.), and maybe even slower (while you apply all the timing to shift the gears without abusing the tranny). All those numbers in the reviews online... folks, you will not want to drive YOUR car like that to get those 5.5 sec off the start (get a Charger Hemi for that). It requires A LOT of getting used to. Then you decide if you rather like it or hate it. It will make you a better driver if you don't give up. But even if you give up and buy an SUV, you won't regret it.
Getting into the 5's for a 0-60 isn't too terrible on the car. What car and driver did to run a 4.5/4.6 0-60 is what none would want to do to their car.
... Funny, im leaving the VW world after 15 years and stepping in to a '19 WRX because I want the rawness (BRZ was 1st choice). I gave up my hatch/wagon-4-life because VW didn't make the GTI raw enough and the Alltrack/GSW in 6mt were so hard to find, a test drive was nearly impossible, but ended up very lackluster. Some of the cars you mentioned have nicer interiors, or commute better, but other than the Veloster-N, they don't get down to the rawness or sense of driving like the WRX. [all cars can be modded to taste]. In the end, it's tomato tomato, potato potato.
my worst mistake was to buy my first subaru with 345 HP, cause every vid now i see is like omg it feels so good and fast, and my mind they are slow as fuk!!!
The only thing I like about the 2019 Wrx is Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. That's it. Everything else is still the same from 2015-2018. And engine is still the same from 2000-2018. I may be wrong on the year, but I do know it's still the same engine for however long it may be.
This car is in dire need of a complete and utter design/re-engineering at this point. It is WAY behind on styling (looks), tech, and driving dynamics. For close ~$30K, c'mon now Subaru...

looks like a 2015 civic mixed with a 2017 corolla
Can someone please tell me how rare a 1995-2000 wrx is, ive spent so long looking for one I can not find one
Wrx came to the USA in 2002, thats probably why you can't find one.
Are any of the seats heated and or vented?
Yes mine is. Limited or upgraded premiums
Does the 2019 base come with fog lights?
yos
No it doesn't.
Automatic it’s better I just don’t know why it’s more expensive doesn’t make sense
Because they're heavier and more expensive to repair. Also, you don't wanna go with the CVT because it is the weakest transmission design in general.
Jordan Berrish I got the limited manual😊
Jordan Berrish Why is CVT the weakest? Asking for a friend.
Complete redesign, much more HP, or at the very least make it lighter.
definitely
I own a limited one same 2019 impreza wrx
For a 2019 car and with a price tag of 27k+ push start should be in all the models
Push start, key start, who gives a fuck? The car starts. Thats what matters. In 13 years of driving not once have I felt inconvienced by turning a key.
Are you doing the sti ??
Already done... STI will be up on Wednesday! 👍
*5.2
its 2019 and the key fob still have no improvement -.-
Limited trim gives you push button start
@@kawasaki_racer91 so does series.gray
Why don't you actually connect a phone to Bluetooth to show those features?
Pretty useless to show the error messages instead.
Immediately noticed a philly/PA accent within the first few sentences. Mechanicsburg... lol didn't fail.
Hahaha. I've been told that more then once! 😁
This is a great compare to the new GLI.
Wow, y'all don't get as many trims as Canada
Can they make it look any more boring? What happened to the aggressive and different design?
Do they come with an automatic transmission
CVT is optional but no automatic

Anyone else here after seeing the 2022 "wrx"?
WRX My dream car!
I've already started saving!
JNJBIKING/AIRSOFT 👍
@@aciditywormhole9898 GAS cost will be huge especially now with this moron in the white house driving up gas prices.
Absolutely useless review, nice job for the dealership dude. Another version of a MYTH that is better than the car itself. It makes everyone think it’s an awesome car, when in fact:
- it’s VERY noisy inside (tires+wind) especially on highway, and when on gravel, you hear every rock hitting the car in the wheel wells
- very sensitive to gas quality, ECU will pull the timing (reduce power output) when it’s hot outside (very noticeable heat soak) and/or gas is not 93, will make you feel like you drive a regular manual Impreza.
- the car requires an experienced driver with gooood reaction time, because to enjoy driving it you’ll need nearly perfect gear shifting skills (kids, don’t buy WRX as your first car - you'll regret it)
- to utilize the acceleration from a stop, you’ll have to launch the car, which gets pretty annoying because of all vibration and noise and perfect shifting required otherwise you’ll induce tranny shock while shifting 1-2-3. You’ll most likely hate doing it daily and then you start driving like everyone else and regret you didn’t get automatic transmission
- Can’t nearly match Audi S3/S4 in performance.
@@K03sport bruh you're so raw
my worst mistake was to buy my first subaru with 345 HP, cause every vid now i see is like omg it feels so good and fast, and my mind they are slow as fuk!!!
No WRX ever had 345 hp. This is a Different car. And why is it a mistake if you like your car better?
The only thing I like about the 2019 Wrx is Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. That's it. Everything else is still the same from 2015-2018. And engine is still the same from 2000-2018. I may be wrong on the year, but I do know it's still the same engine for however long it may be.
MJ Wild the motor is in 2015+, do your research before you try to bash it
YOOOO! PA FTW! XD
$27,214 OTD is a good price?
Definitely if it’s the same year and trim, 2019 WRX Premium manual. CVT will add $1,900.
WKaznartist it’s a base model tho, 2019WRX, I’m trying to get it down to $26.5
the wannabe front evo radiator grill looking thing looks like if the car had a month and it was swollen
Definitely
More like 17 in the city
But it has apple and android play
Nice looking care on the outside. But not even worth the base price IMO.
anthony aguilar it’s more car than a Honda
Nicholas Todd right lets see wich one would hold its value longer and would go past 30k miles without blowing a head.
Smh they cant bump the horse power
Luckily i didnt wait for 2019 model lol i bought 2018 and theyre the same lol
Similar but Not the same. Apple CarPlay and android auto for one.
What is this guy a radio announcer?
This car is in dire need of a complete and utter design/re-engineering at this point. It is WAY behind on styling (looks), tech, and driving dynamics. For close ~$30K, c'mon now Subaru...
Still think it's the best option out there for the price.
The 2017 had better looking wheels
no they didnt
Nah
You're on crack mate
2016* premium
imo the rims on the 2019 are suddle yet beautiful. The best looking rims so far.
You wanna see an ugly car...2018 civic...what happened there? Now that's ugly.
The interior still look like shit
Sly Carl not true. it’s one of the most complete cars on the market
Not at all
I agree cheap plastics all over but again these are rally cars not meant for luxury..
Its a cheap car what do u expect a Ferrari quality interior
They need to bring back the blue suede n alcantera
