It still amazes me how well Beetlejuice works as a musical, It gives the characters so much more depth, Everyone, especially Beetlejuice are great singers, and I'd argue Alex Brightman has become even more iconic as Beetlejuice than Micheal Keaton. Wait did I just say... Oh no.
Underrated is not really a word I’d use to describe Beetlejuice, that thing is a phenomenon

I love the spongebob musical so much but i really hate how the recent drama with ethan and ariana has turned the show into a punching bag. it's one of the best broadway shows i've seen and it's like people immediately hate on it ONLY BECAUSE it's spongebob
I went to see The Bands Visit not knowing much about it, and was so moved ! Truly deserves the label underrated.

I mean I wouldn’t say SpongeBob and Beetlejuice are underrated , I was thinking more “A Bronx Tale”, “American Idiot”, and “Bright Star” but it’s all subjective 🤷♀️

It still baffles me that Beetlejuice is an underrated musical. I saw the tour version back in March of this year and it was SO GOOD. I had so much fun. Wish it lasted longer on Broadway. And I hope to see the tour version again
I also saw the tour in March and it’s coming back close enough for me to drive to next year. I’m dragging my friend as an excuse to go again. I’ve been obsessed since.
Anastasia is a musical that is probably my favorite that should have been on the list. It definitely deserves more recognition with the songs, story, design, and amazing performances. Seeing the show in previews with the original Broadway cast was an amazing experience.
I saw American in Paris in NY and London, could watch it every day!
Lots of them were great musical that deserved more love (including the SpongeBob and Beetlejuice musical) but I’m surprised these didn’t make the list:

And Lizzie: The Lizzie Borden Musical should be added to the list.
It genuinely hurts my soul that The Great Comet is so underrated, wished that more people new about it! Honsestly recommend the Abdution song its so good!
Honestly Beetlejuice seems like one of the most popular/well known musicals, there's many animatics of it and the soundtrack has millions of view on youtube, so it doesn't deserve its spot on the list. Musicals like Anastasia and the Lightning Thief deserve to be on this list more cause almost no one talks about them.
Alright Kelsey Grammer was more than just Captain Hook in Finding Neverland-he played Charles Frohman, who was the producer for Peter Pan.
I recently saw Beetlejuice in Hollywood and thought the storyline was a bit off. But the actor portraying Beetlejuice the understudy for Lydia, and Delia were amazing.
FINDING NEVERLAND! Was able to see it on tour a few years ago and loved it. It was fun and emotional, everything a Broadway show should be.
The only show I've seen was Something Rotten, in their national tour in 2018 with the wonderful Rob McClure as Nick Bottom. Absolutely loved it ❤️! A comedy that's a "love letter while playfully making fun" at both Shakespeare and Broadway is a tough thing to pull off, but they nailed it 🤣. Songs like "God, I hate Shakespeare", "Hard to be the Bard" and "A Musical" are still on my playlist 🥰

I’m not sure you guys know what under-appreciated means. Several of your picks were obscure, but SpongeBob, Beetlejuice, and Natasha/Pierre?? Are you kidding? The Band’s Visit won multiple Tonys - that’s kind of the definition of appreciation. Meanwhile Groundhog Day happened, and was good enough it just got a revival in the West End, but didn’t even get its planned North American tour.

“Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812” is one of the worst musicals ever written and staged. It is not underrated in the slightest. There is a reason, no legitimate Broadway producers wanted to touch it.

SpongeBob is one of my favorites childhood cartoons. So, I’m glad it have a great musical for fans to love.
I am so happy first date was mentioned!!! It is one of my favorite musicals! Some other underrated musicals I really love are Ghost, In transit, and Amazing Grace
Ghost is MARVELOUS!! The music is unparalleled and each principle character gets their distinct genre of music! Molly gets all the slow ballads, Sam gets the gushing soulful songs, and Oda Mae Brown gets the funk rock jams!

Allegince had a run in London earlier this year!
I would personally say Allegiance belongs at the top, because it uses fantastic original songs to retell a point in American History that we tried (and are still trying) to pretend never happened. But I am most grateful that it at least made the list! I can’t always be a winner!
I'd have put Anastasia on here somewhere. Other than that, good list.

Maybe they weren't underrated so much as unoriginal. Only three, maybe four of the 13 musicals discussed weren't based off of a movie. Now adaptions can be amazing (the costumes and puppetry in Lion King, or the new spin and perspective in Some Like it Hot) but there are too many people on Broadway and in Hollywood who can't seem to be able to come up with an original idea. Instead they remake someone else's work and say "look what I made!". They put a lot of time, sweat and tears into it, for sure, and it doesn't mean it's not quality work, but if my friend asked me "Do you want to see Beetlejuice or Six?", I would have said "Well, I already know what happens in Beetlejuice, so..."
What was so fun about Beetlejuice for me is how different it was from the movie. The major points were all hit, but the plot was different enough to be worthwhile. While Six, which I saw the week before, followed history. You know what happens to them all.
How the great comment lost the Tony’s I will never understand. It’s in my top three best musicals I’ve ever interacted with (best, not favorite, tho it makes that list too)

Allegiance... ooph. The show's subject matter is SO important. It had incredible talent. I wanted to love it, but the music was so forgettable and paint-by-numbers. I think it would have made a better play. Or it needed to be workshopped longer.
Also...in what universe is Beetlejuice "underrated"? This show had a dedicated and vocal following.
I think War Paint deserved a spot on this list personally.

I really loved Finding Neverland and The Band's Visit but I would sooner say that WAITRESS is an underrated musical over Beatlejuice.
“Waitress” ran for over five years, on Broadway.

Why is Beetlejuice on this list? Barely anyone hated it. Calling it underrated is like calling Avatar a box office bomb
IKR? The rights were even sold to Norwegian Cruise.

In what universe is “Beetlejuice” underrated? Norwegian Cruises purchased the rights to the musical, after it closed on Broadway. It is the only show from that season, apart from “Hadestown”, that anyone ever remembers existed. While, “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812” is one of the worst musicals ever written and staged. It had no business ever being allowed on Broadway. The score is terrible with no melodies and juvenile lyrics.

Idk how you can possibly say Beetlejuice is underrated when you guys put it over Hadestown as the best musical of 2019. At this point it's pretty clear, if anything it's overrated.
