Sounds great. It was in this car. The idlers are easy as long as you can access them. Some engine pulleys areas are super tight and become the bottle neck of the repair. Good luck with your project 😀
while it is probably working, this is very dangerous lol. the way i do it is: i remove the belt and i use zip tie connected to the crank and the pulley im suspecting to make the sound, that way its much safer and youre 100% sure you find the culprit
Yeesh. I would have changed that AC pulley pre-emptively but i understand customers sometimes just want bare minimum. Or its your own car and easy enough to change later lol
Yup. I agree. Although that a/c bearing was clearly dry and noisy. I have seen them last years and years. I think its because of the larger size of the bearing. It should be replaced for best results though.
Excellent! Dont forget to verify bad parts before replacing parts. It's a pain to remove belt just for testing. But it is usually less expensive because you have a better chance at getting the right parts 😀
The a/c pulley sound isn't ideal. It has some wear on it and is dry. But it's tight and sounds good otherwise spinning on the belt. It could need repair in the future. They often will sound like that for quite a while before they fail. I think that is because they are larger in diameter. But theres no guarantee. They could fail at anytime once they sound like that.
Gotcha, you could start the engine a couple minutes to see which pully is the hottest, maybe it's the culprit as it experiences the most friction that makes the most heat. Am I right?
@@satochinakamoto6129 Some pulleys run hotter normally such as alternator pulley vs AC pulley. Even the tensioner pulley will run little hotter than idler pulley. Ymmv
So I have a whining noise coming from my engine bay for months now... I took it to two mechanics, at one of their shops they checked all the belts, they said they took all the belts off and run the engine and it was still making that noise. They said it might be coming from the engine, like from the chain inside the engine.... But of course they don't work on engines so who knows.. Car has been running fine for months but now I'm not so sure. Gonna check the pullies myself.
Process of elimination is a good method to make sure all accessories bearings on the belt spin silently with the belt removed. If nothing turns up, you could have an idler pulley or tensioner pulley bad on your timing belt system. Some water pumps also run on the timing belt. So it is very plausible depending on what type of system you have for timing. Some vehicles have timing chains with water pumps running on them also. Exploratory surgery on the timing belt or chain system may be needed to inspect and find the culprit if everything else checks ok with the accessories and no other related causes seem to be the issue 😃😃
Might need a safe listening device to test some pulleys. Or you can always remove the battery terminals and remove the belt and hand spin all pulleys. The Bad ones will usually jump out at you 😃
replaced all idler pulleys and belt tensioner. now when i start the engine i hear a clicking noise for a few minutes and it stops after the engine is warm. 2005 4runner v6 2wd
