Lots of people were asking what kind of grease, it’s NGLI no. 2 wheel bearing grease, don’t know which brand he’s using but it’s same same. Lucas oil red and tacky NGLI no.2 is a brand if you want one
Inspired by you, I opened all the bearings on the case and chuck of my Makita impact driver and packed them with chassis grease. Now, that thing runs super smooth and drive heavy duty bugle screws without any struggle. Also, the chuck just feel warm after one day's intense work rather than burning hot like before.
Ill give it a try on my land rover discovery tomorrow. Hoping the bearing isnt going side to side Thanks, it worked like a charm. A lot less noisy in the engine bay now
Wow man my 2012 tacoma is doing the same with the squealing even after I replaced the belt so I definitely gotta do this, never knew you could do this I'm no mechanic by any means but I will do and have done the majority of the DYI on my truck if it means saving money by not having to buy pulley replacements then I'm all for it. Love your teal 93 cobra by the way, I had a black one, I miss it, hopefully will get another one in the near future, thanks again for this video 👍🏽👍🏽
That's a great tip. Thanks for sharing I'll definitely will be trying it next time witch will be soon lol its starting making noises yesterday. Keep up with your great video's. There very helpful
Wish I would have watched this before I changed out my old serpentine belt, I just sprayed lubricant into my pulleys not WD but a real lubricant, did the trick but I’m sure it won’t last. Great info.
Hi bro. Appreciate your video. Not a car geek. But I kind of figured out what the rattling or squeek in mine is. Just change the whole beltings just over a mth ago. It’s got to be those bearings.
My grand sons repack there brging on mowers and decks every winter and repack the trailers of all kinds 😊, then there ready for summer mowing and farming 😊
I just used engine degreaser and a little 3 in 1 silicone spray on my old '86 F150. I could've bought belt dressing. No belt conditioner available. I'll fix it properly in spring. I spilled coolant all over belts. No more stealing belts.
Man I must let you know that your tech tip on this helped my brother and I today. For months we heard this funny noise coming from the engine compartment and never knew what are where it was coming from, so anyway, I checked that pulley and sure bet it was that. Filled it up with grease and noise went away. Just want to say thanks!!
I did this last week, I ordered two idler pulley, but I couldn't wait on it... so i pulled the pulley out and tried packing grease into it... I didn't pull the little plate up, but it worked nonetheless.
@@BREW2LFOXBODY any time brother! About 5 times a week i say screw it im sell my fox cuz im so annyoed with it. But i always think about you and take a step back watch one of ur vids then get back to it! Thanks for the motivation.
@@BREW2LFOXBODY i got into a car wreck and was hooked on those pain killers for about 5 years. As i was trying to get clean i came across ur channel. Those hard days i just sat and watched your videos, saying one day ill build one. And now been clean over 3 years and got a 93 hatch alitte over a year ago. You have no idea the people you reach and what affect you have! Thank you for everything you do!
By the time you hear it, the rollers are damaged. Yes, you can repack with new grease, but the lifespan is greatly reduced. A cheap best solution is that the bearing can be pressed out and replaced at a fraction of the price of the whole assembly.
I didn't hear him say that either and was wondering about that. They look similar to skateboard bearings which are cheap as all get out assuming you ignore the marketing hype for super expensive ceramic How would you figure out what bearings needed to go back in and where would you get them?
I was wondering why nobody had a video on repacking the bearings… I replaced the alternator on my 96 Ranger and it squeals horrendously for like 2 seconds when I start it up. I believe when I replaced the head gaskets it had a really bad idler pulley and I just forgot about it… The belt seems to be running true so idk… Maybe I’ll start with that bad pulley and go from there…
I was curious, so I popped the grease seal off of a new bearing, and I discovered that there was hardly any grease in there. From then on, I grease them even if they are new.
It's more like a chirping or grinding.. but I can't seem to hear which one it is, I have a mechanics 👂 with a probe, but how do you tell which one it is, and you can only hear it when it's running?
My 96 Explorer has 2. One just like the one you did, but another plastic one on the tensioner, the bearing cover plate was very brittle and broke removing it. It is only $12 though. It was free spinning, very noisy! with zero grease inside. Not very good!
The noise you have most likely is internal to your smog pump, the pulley doesn't have a bearing. Now if you manage to dissasemble your pump, there probably is bearings in there where you could apply this fix, but I don't know how doable this is.
Don't over pack them, you may have a little too much grease in the not gonna lie. Fill them to about 25% capacity because there needs to be space in there for the balls to move around instead of having to plough through the grease. If you over pack them they'll overheat over time
Hey, just had a quick question! New to the game and bought a 93 GT! It had the whale tail spoiler on it. I was just wondering what people think of it and of it is an eyesore to the Fox community. (I like it quite a bit but I wanted to know about the origin of them) Thanks!
I think I grease my belt tensioner every 2 months...I think I'm on my 3rd tensioner..I dont like to open my hood cause its embarrassing listening to it squeak off and on..
I hope it'll last but I feel like that bearing is probably in the end of it's life anyways. IMO once it ran dry once, it's going downhill from there, it made a bunch of metal shaving, some remain even after repacking and those shavings will make it eat itself alive.
I gotta roll her out and pull it apart.... problem is collecting all the parts... lmr had a complete pulley bridge at one point , and all that ensues... but now its not on there :/
What kind of grease (the red stuff) should I be looking for? Is there a brand I can find in auto zone? Another reason why you shouldn't use WD-40 is that it can get on your belt and cause slippage, and the grease that it cleans out can also get on to the belt
I'll be honest, I didn't even think those bearings were serviceable Great information!
I wasn’t sure myself.. this was my first time trying it honestly

Great tip ,. I too did not realize I could service this bearing.
Thank you for the FYI
Learn something new everyday.... (I'm not a mechanic) but it makes sense... thanks for sharing...
Good tip for even brand new idlers..Most only have enough grease in them to keep them from rusting..
Great point
Do it to all mine as well

I thought I was the only one that did stuff like that. Thanks for sharing!
Gotta save that money 💰
Great vid. WD has so many uses. A lubricant is not one of em. Those idlers can be pricey. Nice way to save a few bucks if you catch it in time.
#203 bearing $8.
This is an excellent tip. Not only to save money. But its preventitive maintance.
Great tip. I’ve done this before on mower deck spindles.
Great job! and much nicer sounding after the bearings were re-packed✊🏼🏁

Those pulley bearings are alternator bearing #203 at O'Reilly's. $ 8.
That stuff always happens, thanks for sharing.
Awesome video man. Excatly what I was looking for, thank you!!!
thx for the video ill try this next time before i replace a pulley
Thanks for showing me how to pack my pulley bearing 😮

THANK YOU I JUST STARTED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ON MY 2 VALVE

You can also use a grease needle to apply the grease.
Damn it Man. We went to school!! Never knew nor thought to repack!!! Those always kinda thought was non serviceable! 🤯

Good stuff. I just had to replace one of these on my snow blower.
You're the best! Excellent details
On auto allway use timkin brging if replacing it 😊
Great video and tip BREW2L, thank you!
It's like vo tech with shop teach Brew2L. Where's the dumpsters where we all burned one behind 😆
😂 they around back ✊😂😂
Did this on my john deere lawn mower. Bearing was loud before repacking
What brand of grease were you using?
I use Lucas tacky
You're a life saver! Thank you so much.
👍. Great mate - just has 5his start on mine
Nice it will probably be better than a new one now and a hell of a lot cheaper 😀 good info !
That's crazy. Mine just started squeaking. How'd you know? They only do it when it's cold.
Mine were horrible when it was cold! Lol
What do you think of the Southside Machine subframe connectors? They look like the best idea. Especially if you weld them too.

For about 2 seconds I thought the reminder start-up at 7:28 was the start up after repacking. Hahaha
Lol I can see that 😂
My little truck likes to tear up tensioner pulleys. Some thing to do with those 5500 rpm shifts maybe.
👀💪🔥🔥🔥
Nice, had no idea!
What kind of grease did you repack the bearings with?
I sprayed mine . 2 weeks later the pulley unscrewed itself coming down a hill. Overun pully on a nissan navara diesel was playing up.
If where you work has a good supply of bearings in the shop!🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😆😆😆
Haaa haaa
Awesome how-to video!
What could you spray, as a temporary lubricant? If you can't get it to a shop for a couple days? Anything??

Just did this on my 5.0 the other night. Zero noise in zero degree temps.
Good s#$* bro, thank you! I appreciate you.. I had that prob on the stang also supercharged. Lifesaver.
Squeaky sound from the smog pump pulley, would this be the same fix?
No, this just refers to a free spinning pulley 👍
The noise you have most likely is internal to your smog pump, the pulley doesn't have a bearing.
Now if you manage to dissasemble your pump, there probably is bearings in there where you could apply this fix, but I don't know how doable this is.
@@imnota Thanks, going to actually take the smog pump out this spring, more room and all that jazz.

If I only get the squeal when I turn my AC on, it’s the AC pully bearing right? Appreciate your help
Great video buddy
What kind of grease do you use in the bearing?
I try it like you show. But it's still noise. I changed new pulley and new belt. Still noise too. Anything else.
Dang..i needed to see this 3 months ago when i spent $60 on pulleys..lol
What kind of grease do you use?
Make sure those ball bearings dont have flat spots.
Don't over pack them, you may have a little too much grease in the not gonna lie. Fill them to about 25% capacity because there needs to be space in there for the balls to move around instead of having to plough through the grease. If you over pack them they'll overheat over time

Id say it’s about 60/40 on the ones that like it. I still think they’re pretty sweet on the right car. 👍
Nice thank you
It’s interesting how you sold the terminator and bought a lightning. The exact same time I sold my lightning and bought a terminator.
Great video thanks
It would have been good if you showed how the the pully was moving after you greased them right on finger to see the difference.
I think I grease my belt tensioner every 2 months...I think I'm on my 3rd tensioner..I dont like to open my hood cause its embarrassing listening to it squeak off and on..
Yeah it sucks.... embarrassing for sure
If you don’t have a syringe you should invest. It’s has multiple uses
I hope it'll last but I feel like that bearing is probably in the end of it's life anyways.
IMO once it ran dry once, it's going downhill from there, it made a bunch of metal shaving, some remain even after repacking and those shavings will make it eat itself alive.
This is still a good practice imo as a preventative maintenance item for new pullies or ones that are good still.
