      It’s very impressive. Especially when you consider the cost. It’s the same as a Totalscan transducer and plugs directly to the display.

    mike i put the active image 3 in 1 transducer on because the total scan ate a floating log . Im having a ton of trouble with it . 1 it wont read depth on the chart screen . 2 it looks nothing like yours on side scan and reads 10.2 feet in 50 feet of water . I did the latest 22.2 update and the same . The other thing im getting is Invalid Radar overlay .I have a 12 inch and a 9 inch evo3 networked but both have the same update installed . The other transducer is a through hull ss75m . ss i think is because its stainless rather then B for brass

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im willing to bet it’s plugged in port 1. It needs to be in port2. Be sure to select THIS unit in sources on the display active imaging is connected to. In valid radar can be a few things. You might have the wrong source selected. The module might not have power to it. Check for the lights on the module. Third can be a bad NMEA wire. Let me know if these help.

      Иван Мир definitely go with the Simrad. You won’t lose a single thing going away from HB’s Side Imaging, but you will LOSE BIG-TIME if you walk away from Simrad’s D2 CHIRP sonar.

  • @jaywagner13

    When you were scanning at 5mph and then scanning at 20-21mph on pad, the scroll speed seemed to be the same at both speeds. How is that possible? Is there just a delay of info on the screen at the higher speeds(20-21mph) and it will eventually catch up or is the image on the screen just stretched out? Thanks for any info and please keep the videos coming!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jason wagner Yes and Yes. You’re pretty much right on. The biggest difference between this Transducer and other structure scan transducers is PING SPEED. I don’t know exact numbers but the PING SPEED is a lot higher. This gives you super high resolution at slower/medium speeds and increased resolution at higher speeds. At faster speeds you will lose some resolution because targets aren’t “pinged” as many times, but this transducer pings so much faster that there is much less “scrolling delay” than past models. So basically you will indeed lose some resolution at higher speeds and there will be a bit of a delay of the scroll “history”, but it’s nowhere near what it was with the earlier side and downscan transducers. Hope this helps!! Thanks brother!!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS

  • @brandonstoner4959
    @brandonstoner4959 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The resolution looks so much better than my Go9 w/ totalscan....is this a better result because of active imaging or an Evo3?

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Stoner it’s the Active Imaging Transducer. The Evo 3 Display is of course a higher resolution screen, but it’s all relative. You will see a major difference in image quality with the active imaging transducer. I believe it will available in a regular structure scan type transducer and a total Scan type that comes with chirp sonar as well. They are called Active Imaging 2in1 and 3in1.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Schwartz The Evo3 has a much higher resolution screen than the Go series, so it won’t look exactly like this. I have seen one on a Go Display and it looked really good.

  • @williamdavis8191
    @williamdavis8191 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it worth replacing a total scan transducer with this new active image one?

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Davis I really do believe so. I have used both and the side scan on the Active Imaging had MUCH better resolution than the Totalscan and it also had MUCH better resolution than the 3D (in Side Scan mode, of course). Now the Active Imaging Transducer I used here was a 2 in 1 so it did not have the 2D sonar elements that give you CHIRP and standard 83 and 200khz so I was unable to compare those.
      The 3 in 1 Active Imaging Transducer is definitely designed to replace the Totalscan.

    My apologies if I missed it, but do you have a video where you go over the settings you use to get these images? Like TVG, noise rejection, etc? My images never seem to come out so clear and crisp.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chad Baudoin I don’t really have one just on the settings only because there aren’t very many. Noise rejection always OFF. TVG reduces gain near the surface where tiny particles can appear huge. I tweak the TVG during the day, if you set it to 0 it will be a little noisier, but you won’t miss any fish close to the surface. It you set it to 3 it will be crystal clear, but you will definitely miss fish in the top area of the water column.
      Do you have a 3 in 1 or Total Scan?

    • @JulioTheBusDriver
      @JulioTheBusDriver 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS I have the total scan. I originally purchased my unit with the HDI 455/800 transducer, and recently switched it out for the Total Scan so I can do side imaging and High Chip down imaging, but still be able to use 455/800 sonar, and now it seems I can never get anything to show up with this thing. Not sure if the frequencies and settings I'm using is what is causing that. I was just wondering if they may have been a base setting I could start with to try and get images like this. Ill move my settings to the ones you suggested above and mess with them from there. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

      Jerry Evans Unfortunately you cant use the 3 in 1 with Evo2. It only works with Evo3 and Go series. I know it’s stinks because that Active Imaging is the best side scan I have EVERY seen on ANY unit in ANY brand. I have a buddy in your same boat. He added a go display with 2 in 1 Transducer that he uses solely for active Imaging Side Scan.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS

      On the Compatible HDS, yes. I believe the Elite has a lower resolution screen so it will be greatly improved, but it won’t look as good as this. I’m not up on all of the Lowrance specs, but the Elite is similar to the Simrad Go series which is lower resolution than the Evos.

      It has improved image quality over the side scan in the 3D yes, but it won’t have the “3D option”. It will not require a box like the 3D does. You can plug the Active Imaging Transducer directly to your display and use both if you wish.
