Great vid, Mike. Question: I am using the go7 and fishing in water from 250 to 550 feet for rockfish. I am having much difficulty getting any kind of reading other than just showing a number on how deep it is. Where do I need to place my settings (frequency, chirp, etc.) to get a decent reading in the deeper water? Thanks so much. Danny
Hi Mike, do you subtract the water depth from the distance mark on side scan for actually distance? Example 100 foot mark on side scan subtract 50 foot depth actually distance from boat 50 feet. Is this correct? I think I remember you saying that in a previous video.
So, bottom hardness is yellow for hardest, then red, then blue being soft? If I have a thick yellow line with fluffy blue just on top of it, would that be kelp or weed on top of a hard bottom?
It can be anything really. Probably just fluttering sediment. The color doesn’t really show bottom density, the thickness of the bottom band and presence of a double bottom will help with that. A thinner bottom band and close second bottom means harder bottom.
Dig you videos! I have a Simrad Cruise, whenever I go over 6mph I lose my echo. No depth or fish finder feature at all until I slow back down to 6mph or less. Any idea?
Yep. You are getting air across the face of the transducer. Lower the tail end of the transducer a touch first. If that doesn’t help lower the entire transducer a little at a time until you track at full throttle. 👍👍👍

First off, congrats on the new Sea Pro! The Total Scan is now being replaced with the Active Imaging 3in1. It’s basically the same, but with the better side scan. The 150 is a great inexpensive transducer. Probably the best you could get for the money, but I would go with the 175 H wide CHIRP for where you fish. If you do that you never have to look back!

Any tips for fishing for stripers In deep water? I do really well in depths 3-15ft but struggle anything above 25ft any tips would be great. Thanks for the videos your an awesome captain and teacher.
Thanks brother!! I really appreciate your kind words, really. freshwater I rarely Target deeper Stripers unless that is the ONLY place I can find them, such as mid-summer when they are forced to be there due to water temps. Fish holding deeper than 30 ft with NO bait around are probably not actively feeding. They can be tougher to catch. Try fishing shallower points NEAR those deep water fish. When they are on a feeding pattern they will transition towards the food source, which is often shallower. Those fish are a lot easier to catch.

Great Post! I have an EVO2 with a TM150 and this is very helpful. Msahing buttons is key. My best custom frequency for the EVO to is 155. It is a Medium Chirp transducer. I have experimented with Medium Chirp and it doesn't seem to work as well as the customer frequency. Any thoughts? BTW I saw your downscan is set to 800ghz. Is that your preferred frequency for your structure scan? Thanks for the videos. Tom
Thanks for comment brother!! You are right-on. Custom frequencies or “single frequencies” work better in less than 40 feet. I switch to CHIRP at around the 35-45 mark. I use 800 because it is Active Imaging, it has the highest resolution and still has crazy range. 800 is kinda cruddy on ANY other side Scan transducer when deeper than 15 feet. Since the Evo2 can’t use Active Imaging I would leave it at 455 where you already have it. Have you tried 105 in custom frequencies? It’s one of my favorites on the 150. Thanks again brother! Great questions.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS I tried 105 by accident and thought I was seeing things that weren't there!!! Probably should have left it on the 105 frequency. I will compare it to the 150. Thanks again for the tips on the side scan as well. Tight lines and love your videos. Thanks again. Tom
Hello, Mike. Thanks for the video! I have the TM150-M and the Garmin GT22-TM. I fish local sea cherry salmon. My depth between 17-70 feet. Does it make sence to use the GT22 for the shallow water? Or shoud i use the TM150 all the way? Will you test the Garmin GT22 or GT8 ducers in the nearest future? Thanks!
The 150 will be your best option in any depth, I would stay with it all the time. I’m not sure if I will be testing any Garmin units, but it’s possible. Thanks brother!
desinto I’m gonna try to do some more comparisons. I end up having to buy these other units because whenever I ask someone owning another brand like a Garmin or Humminbird to do a simple comparison they always change their minds. I do it out of pure curiosity. I want to know what’s out there.
I lose bottom on my evo 3 at any speed, Have the airmar med chirp thru hull ..but feel i am not getting the whole picture..or best use of the unit.. should i add the transom mount transducer to see bottom at speed and the 3D scan?
I wouldn’t add anything just yet. Do you lose bottom at slow speeds too? Is it a big 175 or a 150 medium CHIRP transducer? Thru-hulls are usually the best option for holding bottom at high speeds. There might be an issue with your installation. Try different frequencies next time out, see if 83khz does any better. The 150 works better on 83 for high speed performance.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS just one that came with the boat..stock bottom digital. not sure which med chirp it it. its heavy and expensive!. and yes may be the installation could be suspect, but i still dont get that 3D bottom.. that is cool.. I will try the 83khz next time.. thanks!
Mr GreenPad You won’t get 3D without a complete 3D system. (Transducer and processor). If I were you I would bypass 3D and get the new Active Imaging Transducer 3 in 1. You will get Side and down scan and you also add high CHIRP to the mix. It’s also way cheaper than 3D. Here is the link for the one you need for the Evo3. amzn.to/2ErP9ug It’s an Amazon link, if you use my link you will get lifetime setup help from myself. It’s a win-win. I can get you a 3D link too, but it’s 3X the price and Side Scan isn’t as good. (And you get no CHIRP bands either)
Hey Mike. Need help again. I did something to my units. I have two evo2 9's and echo want work on one unit like before. It's not even showing source to switch to. You have idea what to do. Thanks
I have a question I just put in my go12 with active imaging transducer and my side scan was white with a little color in center but no scan movement. So I paused the chirp or downview and then it wouldn't unpause anything and says shut of chirp for side scan.. any ideas now thier both locked paused and only my sonar works?
The echo sonar is whats traditional right? That works fine. My chirp and side scan won't unpause and the screen is saying I can't use both side scan and chrip at same time so how do I shut off chirp to get the side scan to work? Youre saying change my frequency on my traditional sonar to fix my side scan? I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot but I'm really confused? First time with simrad.. also in my initial setup it did not have an option for ai 3 in 1. But I think It recognized it because in setting it comes up but is grey shaded.. not sure about that either
Yes. Echo is traditional or 2D. Setting it to 83 or 200 will take it out of CHIRP. It will unpause Side Scan for the you. CHIRP is multiple frequencies at once. 83 or 200 is single frequency. If it says 3 in 1 in grey it’s working fine. You can’t change it. It’s an XDUCER that talks to the display. Sounds like everything is working perfectly. You’re all set brother!!! 👍👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS ok I will try that. I have the stock system normal transducer . Do I need to thr the active imaging transducer to get better returns ?
Ray S. The active imaging transducer will definitely give you the best side scan I’ve ever seen. This one has high and end Chirp Sonar as well. amzn.to/2ErP9ug I’m not sure what transducer you have now though.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
I would actually really like to do that, even if just for comparison purposes. I have some friends that use Humminbird, but haven’t used one personally since the old square dot machines in the 80’s 😁.
Thanks Mike, that was a bitchin video, I'm trying to decide between the garmin gps and the evo3 right now and your making this thing look pretty dam good!
Tbev Ha! Thanks brother. It really is sick. I have been doing a lot of comparisons recently and the Simrad sonar stands firmly alone.
Tom
Tom F Wow. Interesting. Might have to do some side by side comparisons. Thanks!
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Thank you!
desinto 👍👍
Hello, Mike. Would it be possible for you to test TM150-M vs Garmin GT23-TM? What do U think about the GT23 ducer? Thanks.
desinto I’m gonna try to do some more comparisons.
Do you have other transducers installed as well?
Here is the link for the one you need for the Evo3. amzn.to/2ErP9ug
It’s an Amazon link, if you use my link you will get lifetime setup help from myself.
Thanks
Sounds like you may have turned networking sonar OFF. IN system menu select ECHO INSTALLATION. CHECK THE NETWORK TRANSDUCERS BOX. Thats should do it.
I understand much mo better
Thanks
I have a question I just put in my go12 with active imaging transducer and my side scan was white with a little color in center but no scan movement. So I paused the chirp or downview and then it wouldn't unpause anything and says shut of chirp for side scan.. any ideas now thier both locked paused and only my sonar works?
Change your echo sonar frequency to 83 kHz or 200khz. Pausing it will not free up side scan. It will un pause. I prefer 83 with that transducer. 👍👍
Thanks man I was hoping it was something simple and I didn't need to buy a special harness or box
You got it brother!!
Nice vid learn a new things thx Mike.
have more colours?lowrance is diferent?i.ve see nice colours too.
Hey captain mike I have a sxe go9 can you help me set this thing up idk if I’m using this thing right
What transducer?
I’m gonna sound like an idiot but idk whatever one came in the box with the screen how do i find out
Is it like 8” long?
It’s the total scan transducer
I tried to send a screen shot of the exact package I bought but idk how to post it here
Mike. Would my evo 2 have the fish reveal option. Ive never downloaded anything since new
Yes, the last update would have it. 👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS do you have video on how to download.
Jerry Evans yep!!
This is wireless

Awesome. Thanks
what transducer d you use?
Airmar 275 CHIRP L/H wide.
can u help me out please ! i have the same unit but im not getting the boomarang marks . im new to the unit so its hard for me to read marks
Ray S. Go into your menu on the echo sonar page and make sure the interference filter is off.
This one has high and end Chirp Sonar as well.
amzn.to/2ErP9ug
I’m not sure what transducer you have now though.
I have simrad nss9 evo3 how to set the temperature of the water
You have to select the transducer source you would like to get temp from. In echo installation
Nice. Do one one hummingbird. Please
Garmin’s new scan system is really nice for marking Bait schools to net and Crappie on bushes, but I don’t know how helpful it will be on the big open water. Time will tell as we learn more.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS you think it smashes the garmin gpsmap series right? That's the other option I'm considering. I'll be out chasing blufin but I'm putting a good ducer on it for that.
Tbev Absolutely. Simrad CHIRP sonar paired with a high quality 1Kw AIRMAR CHIRP Transducer is the best you’re gonna get.
Your the man, I appreciate it. Trying to score a evo2 if I can find one with a warranty, if not I'm gonna grab a evo3 and a b175hw. Thanks bud!
Thanks! Your stuff really helps. We'll enjoy our fishing a lot more thanks to your hard work. Cheers from downunder. PP
Thanks brother!! Great name 🤣

Wouldn't chirp mode be turned of in demo...?
Why would you use demo mode?
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS I may be useing the rong name for the mode....there is a mode where you can interact with the fish finder.... this mode ? can be found in settings at the bottom of the list...it is on my 2022 Lawrence HD..... when using this mode? You are not actually using the Transducer, but simulation
I hope.... the question is; whould the transducer be turn off or not working in
Simulation mode so it wouldn't be
damaged or over heat ?? Thx.
