Great video! Odd that you're having issues with slam fire. I haven't experienced any of that with mine. Judging by how it's failing it looks like the locking piece that interfaces with the back of the cylinder isn't engaging properly. I'm glad you like my shotgun cylinder designs although you should've told me you didn't like the sharp edges! I could've fixed that for you. I just kept them in because I wanted it to be as easy as possible to manually rotate. As for the new ammo type i definitely think it should replace rockets.

The full length cylinder sounds like the one I'd be most likely to buy, as it would fill in some of the massive hole left in the front of the blaster. Sadly, it looks like a large chunk of shell (one of the cylinder shrouds) would need to be chopped off to make Megalodon-style removable cylinders
I want to see which blaster in this line is best adapted to a sealed breech & good length of brass barrel. Such a big plunger tube should give really good performance with a single shot dart, without the need for a large spring.
Let me be the first to point out that, now that Nerf has a new ammo type that’s actually cool and fun, I think out of darts needs to add Mega XL needs to be added to your stickers, tape, tee shirts, and other insignia.

It had no ammo - just air. You could shoot what seemed like a ball of air and you could easily feel it from accross a decent sized room. I don't remember the actual name of the product. It was relatively small - one handed aiming. You pumped it from a lever on the top and it would then shoot the air - no CO2 cartridge.

OD=30mm, ID=19mm The darts are tight enough for an air seal only at the back ⅔ of the cylinder, perhaps designed to limit drag. For community designers, I think the best thing to replicate the results would be to have a barrel shorter than the dart.

I turned my The Judge into a revolving rocket launcher. It doesn't work very well. This is basically doing what I was trying to do with my The Judge, so I'm interested. That logo is super ugly, though. I'd have to find some way to redo that whole area.
I'll be more likely to buy into Mega XL when the Big Rig comes out, and y'all make an insert to single it for Elite-size blasters, and Chinese manufacturers make third-party Mega XL darts.

A singled half dart cylinder would be ridiculously impractical, but hilarious to see how much power the internals have. Also, these are definitely rockets!

I really enjoy the big rockets! I hope they make them without fins in the future since we value their size and power in different game modes. literally a nerf m32 rotary grenade launcher also i think this ammo type should be treated like a 20mm grenade where it does big splash damage but within a very small area
I'd really like to see a cylinder that has 6 triple inline clips that each hold 3 darts. That way you could have 54 darts loaded and fire 3 at a time consecutively 18 times. I think that being so large, this blaster is probably one of the only ones that has the plunger volume to do this and it would make a pretty effective blaster for CQB. I REALLY appreciate the shot with the MXL between the Elite Missile (Demolisher Rocket) and the Mega Dart. That is a much better size comparison visual than next to the Mega, Elite and Short Darts to me. Thank you

I think 4 dart would have been better for the shotgun cylinder. Both for getting more power, and more importantly a tighter grouping through that barrel. It's obvious from your footage that the 5 shot has a tendency for some of the darts to clip the inside of the muzzle which is making them tumble out, defeating the purpose . Purpose wise should definitely be a shield breaker.
I think a shield buster alternative is appropriate, maybe in some game specific specialty role it definitely shows a lot of potential like you said. I know a bunch of us are definitely going to be looking for that spring upgrade, as well as a smaller front section to de-rez that muzzle will be a instant hit and something a lot of people will appreciate from this ridiculously large new blaster/ammo type!
Ran a game with this last weekend, one player started in the middle of the building, which was filled with Terminators. Terminators had swords stuck out (think Evil T-1000), and had to always walk. The human player started with a regular blaster and if they hit a Terminator it stopped them for 3 seconds. They had to stall and avoid the Terminators, find the MEGA XL, and then use that to destroy the Terminators. It was hilarious, got really stressful for the human, and I 100% agree about MEGA XL is going to be awesome if we find fun ways to use it.
This guy's always really thorough in his reviews. Even a little too critical sometimes I think which is why I'm shocked he didn't mention how uncomfortable the right side of the grip is. I really like this blaster and actually prefer to only play dart tag now with mega/XL darts for easier cleanup but I can't play for more than 10 or 15 mins bcuz the shell cutout above the right side of the grip juts out and digs into your hand which hurts your index finger. Stupid idiot whoever didn't make the shell symmetrical on both sides above the handle. Unless it's necessary for internal function. Idk, either way it sucks. But mega XL is great. Can't wait for XL megalodon.
im assuming the problem with slam fire is the cylinder rotation. the prime handle seems to shoot before the rotation is complete which causes the bullet to not be there in time to be launched
I agree that Mega XL should be equal to rockets in terms of special ammo. Use them for special zombies/units and objectives depending on the game mode. Though from my experience splash damage tends to be hard to enforce due to the difficulty of determining if someone is in the radius of a projectile.
I made mine into a mega shotgun. I plan to remove the AR and as much dead space as possible. I ran into issues with older worn out mega darts. Those type of darts didn't get out of its chamber and caused a jam. I may need to put in a stronger spring too. I'd really like to make a masterkey that will support Mega XL.
Seems like Hasbro might be using Mega XL to indirectly kill off demolisher rockets, or the mega missile as i believe they call it. Still, it might be for the best, seeing as how these darts appear to be more durable than the demolisher rockets. And they can be stored a lot easier than the rockets. The Fortnite GL is a prime comparison in that regard, same capacity, yet a whole lot wider than the Boomdozer. Also can't wait for the Proud Papa attachment for Mega XL darts
Hey luke! You know the Dart Zone Villianator? I was thinking, what if you made a drum that used half darts only? Would be cool, and it would make it look even more like a Thompson!
I think Nerf/Hasbro made the Mega XL dart for a few reasons, some of them weird. Number 1: Demolisher Rockets by Aevdor are at as of now, 1.7491 for a pack of 12 purple ones. That's a little less then half the current price for a Nerf one. Plus Aevdor rockets tend to perform better, hold up longer, and seem to be able to handle mods better. So Nerf is just losing money on ammo for every blaster they make that fires these things. Because I'm pretty sure the hobby buys waaaay more then kids and family. Hasbro milks and poaches whales in Magic the Gathering, trust me. They want that blubber. Number 2: The only demolisher rocket blasters all use HAMPs, the Fortnite GL blaster people bought just to support the ammo type and mod potential. But it's easily as bad as some of the Elite 2.0 blasters or Ultra Blasters. I think they refused to make a springer because of costs and bulk. But these Mega XL blasters are all well, ugly and bulky. And seeing the dead space inside these things is annoying. But the point is, if the market demanded Springers, and they can't make a reliable demolisher rocket blasters, then I guess they had to change the ammo type? IDK kinda SUS. Number 3: I think Nerf is in the trend of changing ammo types every 2-3 years now. Rival is being rotated out with an ammo type you really, really shouldn't use outdoors. I don't want to see little animals and small children eating these things at parks. Elite is being turned into crap to make you want to buy Ultra, and their Ultra Darts. Mega is probably in a weird limbo place. Where they can't figure out how to sell it but also, really want to sell it. Or maybe it's the Vortex situation where they release blasters just to keep ammo on the shelves? Because I haven't found a decent Mega Dart substitute brand online yet but also, whistling darts are fun. But all circles back to Hasbro wanting sole control of the market. TLDR: Profit, Cost cutting, Ammo type rotation
I'd like a full length cylinder sized for gluing in 17/32 brass. A cylinder 2 full sized darts long with 3, 9/16 chambers would let us make a 3 dart RSCB shotgun! A cylinder chambered for spring thunder shells would be cool. (Perhaps with a loading gate like the cartridge converted cap and ball revolvers of antiquity. ) I have a feeling several of these blasters and cylinders are in my future!
The boomdozer is basically the mega XL cyloneshock. I think it would be better without the goofy muzzle on the front obstructing the darts from making it out of the blaster. I really like it though
id love to see a cylinder for The Judge that made use of that huge real estate. You could almost double the capacity. Even as is, a spring upgrade can make it doable especially with elite darts on the outer row and waffles on the inside.
Honestly, this blaster has rendered my prototype rocket launchers obsolete mechanically. Only thing I still have is the aesthetics because its styled off an MGL.

Imo rockets should either be buffed and have XL replace their role, or squeeze in a spot for the XL between Mega and rockets

ID is pretty much the same as the old Big Bad Bow arrows so anything that can fire those can fire these including the BBB itself

Street Sweeper shotgun. Looks nice. I am amazed all the darts are making it out the barrel from that far back.
Hasbro also shows a 10 pack of the Mega XL darts. Not sure if those have been released though. MSRP $9.99. So a buck a dart.

Is the hole in back of the dart the same size as the Elite Missiles? I.e can you fire Mega XL dart out of a Demolisher or Tri-Strike missile launcher?
I believe American foam tested that, and unfortunately the inner diameter is a bit larger than a missile post, making it too loose.

How accurate are the darts?
A little less accurate than regular mega, but nowhere near as bad as rockets. I'm really curious if they'll have Mega XL Accustrike in the future…

Aoe type rounds that break shields and/or effects adjacent enemies. Ie:shield wall breakers

8:28 No option for Rival rounds? That looks like it can fire 5 or 6 Rival rounds per shot.

Extra cool blaster very excited for this one.The Mega Xl darts are very cool. I think the slamfire didn't work because of the dart.
We found out that in slam-fire the darts can leave the cylinder enough to not get a good air seal, and a partially fired dart will jam the cylinder.

That moment you brought out that shotgun mod I knew I needed to get one at some point.
I think Nerf/Hasbro made the Mega XL dart for a few reasons, some of them weird.
Number 1: Demolisher Rockets by Aevdor are at as of now, 1.7491 for a pack of 12 purple ones. That's a little less then half the current price for a Nerf one. Plus Aevdor rockets tend to perform better, hold up longer, and seem to be able to handle mods better. So Nerf is just losing money on ammo for every blaster they make that fires these things. Because I'm pretty sure the hobby buys waaaay more then kids and family. Hasbro milks and poaches whales in Magic the Gathering, trust me. They want that blubber.
Number 2: The only demolisher rocket blasters all use HAMPs, the Fortnite GL blaster people bought just to support the ammo type and mod potential. But it's easily as bad as some of the Elite 2.0 blasters or Ultra Blasters. I think they refused to make a springer because of costs and bulk. But these Mega XL blasters are all well, ugly and bulky. And seeing the dead space inside these things is annoying. But the point is, if the market demanded Springers, and they can't make a reliable demolisher rocket blasters, then I guess they had to change the ammo type? IDK kinda SUS.
Number 3: I think Nerf is in the trend of changing ammo types every 2-3 years now. Rival is being rotated out with an ammo type you really, really shouldn't use outdoors. I don't want to see little animals and small children eating these things at parks. Elite is being turned into crap to make you want to buy Ultra, and their Ultra Darts. Mega is probably in a weird limbo place. Where they can't figure out how to sell it but also, really want to sell it. Or maybe it's the Vortex situation where they release blasters just to keep ammo on the shelves? Because I haven't found a decent Mega Dart substitute brand online yet but also, whistling darts are fun.
But all circles back to Hasbro wanting sole control of the market.
TLDR: Profit, Cost cutting, Ammo type rotation
I'd like a full length cylinder sized for gluing in 17/32 brass. A cylinder 2 full sized darts long with 3, 9/16 chambers would let us make a 3 dart RSCB shotgun! A cylinder chambered for spring thunder shells would be cool. (Perhaps with a loading gate like the cartridge converted cap and ball revolvers of antiquity. )
I have a feeling several of these blasters and cylinders are in my future!
It would be really cool to have a quick change barrel, especially if you can quickly change ammo type if needed.
The boomdozer is basically the mega XL cyloneshock. I think it would be better without the goofy muzzle on the front obstructing the darts from making it out of the blaster. I really like it though
id love to see a cylinder for The Judge that made use of that huge real estate. You could almost double the capacity. Even as is, a spring upgrade can make it doable especially with elite darts on the outer row and waffles on the inside.

Hey, a 3D printed "smoother" piece for the big logo would actually be pretty rad.
Honestly, this blaster has rendered my prototype rocket launchers obsolete mechanically. Only thing I still have is the aesthetics because its styled off an MGL.

Is it possible to make an inline clip shotty cylinder?
I'm real curious if the new XL darts can be fired from a demolisher hamp or a meaker mk28.
I'd say it's comparable to the rocket's rule however wouldn't do area damage
Which cylinder mod to you recommend for power? Half length darts?
i love shotgun blasters but they are rarely battle effective. this seems to offer a good option.
What I'd like is a way to let them use Trilogy shells in the revolver, and have them clip into it,
im suprised that the darts all come out when you shoot it because the cylinder is very far back
