    Thank you for this thorough review! This will be our second year homeschooling. Both years with abeka. My kids will be going into 5th, 10th, and 11th grades this upcoming year. I agree with you that the workload can be a bit overwhelming with abeka. They also give a lot of quizzes/ tests. We are currently doing the accredited, but may switch for next year. Thanks again!

      Thanks Jenny! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, Abeka is a ton of work but very worth it! I will have a 6th grader and a 10th grader as well and we do not do all of the homework. It is hard to complete all of it especially if you’re children have sports or other activities in the evening, but we all manage as do you all! I hope you and your kids have a good school year!

    How do determine the end of a quarter per subject for grade 5?

    Thank you for sharing this. My daughter is currently doing Abeka grade 4 so, I appreciate your honest opinions on certain subjects. Spelling is way to fast! I wish they would slow down the speed on their videos. We may only do LA and Science for grade 5. Thanks again!

      Thank you! We’ve done 4th grade as well! The curriculum is great, just a little too much sometimes and I agree the spelling is very fast on the video. I just have my son pause it and say it on his own if he gets behind! Have a great homeschooling year!

      @@ahallelujahplace It definitely can be a little too much! She started not wanting to do spelling due to the fast pace. I also told her it was ok to pause the video. If you have anymore tips on reducing Abeka work load, please share! Hope you have a great year!

      We are starting this year in 5th grade and he didn’t have to learn cursive in public school. Do you think we should maybe order a separate book for that in maybe a grade or two behind?

      Thank you, Maci! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you found it helpful! Have a great homeschooling year!

      @@MaciRoss As far as cursive, yes, I’d get a separate cursive book a beginners book any will do. You can look at the 5th grade Abeka and if it seems way too much than try another cursive curriculum or a lower Abeka grade! A lot of people like prescripts cursive you can check them out as well!

    what cursive writing curriculum would you recommend?!?

    • @ahallelujahplace
      @ahallelujahplace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kay! I really like Abeka cursive especially up until 3rd grade. After that the Abeka cursive is more journaling and copying of phrases into cursive. I have used Abeka cursive, but I’m looking at supplementing with a cursive curriculum called Prescripts. Students can copy the cursive and they have different subjects that you can choose from you can do literature, math, Bible etc. So when your child is doing cursive they’re actually going over general math formulas or math principles or they’re going over history sentences or history documents if you choose history for cursive and it’s more of copying the cursive and tracing the cursive which I still like. I hope this helps! thanks for commenting and have a good year homeschooling!

    Hello I have so many questions I want to order this but without the videos. How do I get all of this do I do complete or essential?

    • @ahallelujahplace
      @ahallelujahplace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! You would look into parent led books. If you go to the website you’d look under homeschool and then click parent led and you’d also see the student books for whatever grade you were looking for. You can order student kits and parent kits to match or depending on the grade, you could order student materials only. Abeka has videos online and you also call them and they could help you as well! Thank you for commenting, if you have any other questions let me know!

      Essential is just the basics. It comes with a few flash cards, but the complete curriculum comes with all flash cards, and extra teaching flash cards. Some parents don’t order the complete, because they don’t think it’s necessary however some like all the visuals. You would have to look and see which extras you’d like to use. For me, I ordered the complete kids for elementary. Middle school and high school only have completes. Thank you!

    About how much seatwork for each subject for 5th grade?

    • @ahallelujahplace
      @ahallelujahplace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daphne! So yes, seatwork depends on if you do dvds or just parent led. With the dvds, subjects can range from 20-40 minutes and usually seat work is 75% of the video. The videos usually start out with review and then jump into the new concept and then seatwork. However, if your child completes the seatwork sooner you don’t have to watch the whole episode. For me we do the work sheet before the video and so my son just watches the 15 minute review and the introduction to the new concept. I hope this answers your question and thanks for commenting! Have a good day!
