    We love ABeka. I have an incoming 8th and 3rd grader. We use the DVD's so it's easier for me. I have been using this curriculum since K4. It can be overwhelming at times but highly recommend.

    Thank you for going over all of these materials. I have really been wondering about what Abeka was like (I heard it was all black and white.). Right now we are going into 3rd grade with The Good and Beautiful. My 8 year old loves the colorful style of TGB, but I am going to order the Bible Study Set from Abeka, and maybe next year we will use Abeka for 4th grade. I really appreciate that you took the time to give a review. God Bless you.

    This was very interesting Katie! I always wanted to home school my girls but have never been able to while working full time. I really enjoyed seeing the information and how everything is laid out. I really wish I could do that with my girls!

    Hi Katie. Wow I wish I had some kiddos to homeschool. You make it look easy and fun. Although I know you have to prepare and be ready to teach. A couple of my friends use Abeka ( forgot how to spell it) and they love it. I think one has a 4th grader and the other has a second grader. Anyway I would definitely choose this curriculum if I was homeschooling. Love ya girl 🥰

    does the spelling 3 come with an answer key? Every other test/quiz/workbooks do i think. It would be helpful for quick checking.

    Last question...I think🤣 I realized Abeka teaches cursive beginning 1st grade whereas public school it's 3rd. With that being said how would I start him in 3rd grade being it's mostly cursive? He's still learning how to read as well.

    • @LifeWithTheLovedays
      @LifeWithTheLovedays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My first grader is doing manuscript!! You could always order him a second grade handwriting workbook. But I believe the first several weeks are review/practice anyways so that might not be needed 😃

    Hello Katie, I came across this video, and I have a question for you. Do you by any chance have the Growing with God book for 3rd grade? I didn't see it included. My grandson is going to a private school that is using abeka and is in 3rd grade. We need some info from that book for this weekend and I can't find it anywhere.

    I would live to hear an update! Is 3rd grade pretty advanced in your opinion?

    • @LifeWithTheLovedays
      @LifeWithTheLovedays  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Abeka as a whole is more advanced than public school and other homeschool curriculums. But since it’s all we have ever used, my daughter is doing great with no issues! 😃

    Hi Katie. Great videoS! You and I have similar backgrounds with early child education and you and I think similarly about how we do our lessons. Last year 2nd grade and our first year homeschooling, I picked up abeka and pieced it together the best I could at first and learned what worked and what didn't as I went. I feel it was a pretty good success and this year we are starting 3rd grade. I have a question. Do you religiously do exactly as each lesson shows or do you tweak it some like I did? We just don't have enough time in the day so we completed the more important subjects and had to drop the cursive, health and safety, and reading comprehension toward the last 60 or so lessons because my son has excellent reading comprehension thankfully. Any thoughts on why that may be ok or not in your opinion? How long would you and your second grader have for school each day? TIA

    • @LifeWithTheLovedays
      @LifeWithTheLovedays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for watching! Yes I tweak them as needed. The great thing about homeschooling is that YOU can decide what works best for your child. You know them best. If you think they don’t need to do those things, then it’s fine!! 😄 It usually took us around 3 hours to do school for the day with second grade.

    Hi! We are withdrawing from public school and switching to homeschool next week and we are doing the Abeka program! So excited I found this video because it has all been getting a little overwhelming 😫 Do you have a video on grading and keeping record? I am trying to decide if I need to go with the Abeka academy and if I should do accredited or unaccredited OR should I just stick to the parent led program…. Help!! 🤯

    • @kristenwilliamson4472
      @kristenwilliamson4472 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 3rd grader and an 8th grader.

    • @LifeWithTheLovedays
      @LifeWithTheLovedays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So we are unaccredited so I do grade stuff but no one but me is seeing it 🤷‍♀️ I keep them (test,quiz,etc) all in a folder just in Case the state ever wanted to see. But all my state requires is a progress report at the end of the year. Check the homeschool laws and requirements in your state! I don’t think accredited is necessary for elementary but I would definitely do it for high school, for transcript sake. I hope this was helpful! You got this mama ♥️

    Question- this will be our first year homeschooling. My boy's will be going into 3rd and 4th. My younger son struggled in phonics in public school. He had an IEP with small group accommodations. I've been told Abeka is pretty much a grade level ahead? Do reccomend me jumping straight into 3rd grade? Or should I do 2nd grade with him?

    • @LifeWithTheLovedays
      @LifeWithTheLovedays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! So I’m my experience I would say Abeka is definitely very thorough and advanced. The first few weeks are review so that would help him a lot at the beginning. The nice thing about homeschooling is YOU are making the schedule. If you need to do a lesson twice, or spend more time on something before you move on, you can totally do that! It’s up to you. I really can’t tell you what to do but I would say I am more hesitant on keeping kids back a grade unless really necessary. Maybe try 3rd grade and if he is just really struggling, you could always do just the language arts part of 2nd grade. Hope that helps!

    Question. What if you come from an environment where you as the adult caretaker of the 3rd grader doesn’t know English language well. I can read but don’t know what a proper English sentence punctuation essays book reports are? I grew up moving all the time and was passed up grades being able to read but nothing else. Will abekka teach a child all they need??? Please help

    • @LifeWithTheLovedays
      @LifeWithTheLovedays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Abeka will show you how to teach them. You will learn alongside your child! The teacher books literally tell you exactly what to do/say. I think you will be fine. 😃

    • @LifeWithTheLovedays
      @LifeWithTheLovedays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha well that’s really up to you! I have never used the DVDs so I don’t personally have experience with them. But I have heard great things!! With the DVDs, you are not directly teaching your child. You are more overseeing and facilitating. So just depends on what you feel more comfortable with. But you definitely don’t need any special skills to be able to teach! Abeka makes it easy 😄
