Whenever I paint a sheet of foam board from the craft store, the painted side shrinks and curls the board. Looks like the paper covering the foam is to blame. Any tips? Should I just peel the paper from both sides and paint the foam directly? Oh BTW I'm using regular acrylic modelers paint.

Yes, you’re, very probably quite right there. I checked the foamcore sheets that I have painted. I sprayed a base coat on them first before doing any other painting, and they are still perfectly flat after many years. There has also been a decline in the quality of foamcore over the past few years. Black foam board is different to white foam too. I’m actually working on a video right now that discusses different foam core boards. That should be out in a couple of weeks.
