This is hands-down the best Wii U advertising commercial I have seen yet. This is what you guys needed to do a year ago...this video adequately sums up the major differences about the Wii U and it actually explains the new features. Now all you need to do is make shorter 30 second commercials with each commercial discussing a certain aspect of the Wii U, plaster those all over TV, and you'll be set.
Good job, Nintendo. For once you've impressed me with your Wii U marketing...keep it up.

Naming consoles "wrong" is infinitely more defendable than the highly anti-consumer DRM MS were, and supposedly still are, trying to force into the Xbone, yet people happily defend MS anyway.

In fact until recently I thought Wii u was just a different iteration to the the Wii, kinda like ps4 pro and PS4.

it is literally the ancestor of the switch. First time being able to have a 2 in 1 function when playing games. Truly underrated. The fact you can look at two screens is just amazing.

The Wii U was and still is one of my favorite consoles, it holds so many good memories and games. I could never imagine my childhood being the same without the Wii U.

Just bought the Wii U, and I'm very happy with it. The long wait for over a year has certainly been worth it. I even had an error code with the system update, and I called Nintendo, which then they actually fixed the problem, making my update perform successfully! Can't thank them enough for their kindness. :)

I truly do not know why everyone hates the wii u
The gamepad made the price higher but had almost never been used for anything significant, and when it was, there was a good chance it made it worse. The games were... good, but there weren't any games you would want the system for, but more so games only someone who already owns the console would buy. As well as lack of third party support because of the gamepad, and the fact Nintendo's marketing was so bad that many people didn't even fully understand what the console was, and that the people who did understand simply didn't want it because, well, the bad marketing. There are probably some more I'm forgetting, but these pretty much confirmed it's failure
And btw, I don't think anyone genuinely hates the wii u, it's just one of the most "meh" systems that ever came out, so people are simply either disappointed or apathetic

I’m extremely sad the Wii U didn’t do as well as it should, I loved and still love this console and it’s games, the only thing it bothers me is that no one told me the switch was going to have a deluxe version of the games I played (pikmin 3, Mario 3D world)

Is it me, or is Nintendo ACTUALLY trying to take action in promoting the Wii U to boost the sales and try convince others that the Wii U is something new and not an add-on to the Wii?
Nintendo really should've called it something else in my opinion.
Wii - Pro? Wii - HD? it plays all wii games unlike the switch.
I know this comment is 5 years old, this caused the Wii U to sell much more units. It just sucks that it was a little to late to get it rolling more.

For all those of you complaining that Mario games are for kids, I'm 20 and my husband is 24. We both love our Wii U and love our Mario Bros. games. We also love Pokemon, Call of Duty, Metroid, Smash Bros, Darksiders, and The Legend of Zelda. I just want to point out that there's not an age limit on fun. Do what you enjoy. What other people think just does not matter.

Nintendo is the only console manufacturer who has been profitable every year for the last two decades, so I'd sayif anyone can pull it off it's them.
Peter Coffin except for the part where they lost like 70 % of their value of stock in 2009,
it is easily prob the worst first year sales of any nintendo machine, even lower than game cube. its picking up some steam in japan, but whether that is purely down to no PS4 competition and the holidays is up for to see what happens in 3 months time.

Initially I think Nintendo really wanted to gain back the hardcore audience by promising a console for U... a console where you can make anything you want. Want hardcore games? You can get it on Wii U. Want 1st party exclusives? They're here.
Since third parties dropped the ball, Nintendo had to figure out how to market the console. They basically are just calling the Wii U an upgrade to Wii (which as a Wii U owner, it is) and the GamePad is more fun than people think.

Exclusive Nintendo games! You mean the only thing that's driving this system and half of the games are either ones that have been already out or basically the same as their predecessor with slight changes.
Off TV play! Nintendo, most households own more than one TV. Just remove two cables and move to the other room.
Online Play! Don't even get me started on how terrible Nintendo's set up is for online features. No official online accounts to tie your game purchases too, Friend codes, no way to message people on your friends list. What the heck Nintendo? It's 2013.
Also Netflix, TH-cam, Hulu, Amazon are all things I can do on any device.
Great Job Nintendo, I'll buy your consoles again as soon as you pull your head out of the sand.

Wii U turned 10 years, I got mine at January 15th, 2015 and I still have it here with me.

To everyone that hates the Wii U and thinks it was good for nothing: listen, as someone who bought a Wii U in 2021, I have lots of disagreement towards your opinion, but let’s just agree that if the Wii U ads were good for one thing, then it was that they were amazing for Stranger Things cast members and fans alike.

I love how much they have to verbally stress the fact that this is a new console, because it's not self explanatory enough all by itself.
The Wii U really wasn't that bad, the marketing on the other hand, was. People thought it was an addition to their already perfectly fine Wii's at home. The Wii U was a marketing nightmare simply because the name alone. Lmao, I love mine though.
Finally, an ad that explains what the Wii U really is and why it is unique. Where was this commercial when Wii U launched?

Well Game Grumps seem to play LOTS on Nintendo games they aint complaining.
But Game Grumps actually has production and turns down the music and sound which triggers TH-cam's automatic Content ID match. The solution is to well turn down the music
People need to learn that the Wii U was actually as good as the Wii (no nostalgia)
I don't see the point in comparing the Wii and Wii U, because the latter literally has a built-in wii at HD resolution, the only downside on U is that you can't play GCN disks on it, but you can absolutely play the games digitally

Nintendo you need to broaden your horizons. You need to release the games that you've kept out of America (or at least get rid of the region lock as that is useless and no longer prevents piracy and doesn't help you in the slightest as well as alienates fans of the games), and you need to start making more T and M rated games like RPG's and Survival Horror games and stop always marketing Mario. I love Mario and his games are great but you shove him in our faces all the time and it is really annoying when you act like he's all we want or need. Please stop trying to market to the casual market you had with the Wii. They've moved on to tablets and I-pads and won't ever come back.

This Wii U video is the best one I've seen, and it's a lot better than the ones from last year. Luckily for Nintendo, a good portion of us were able to identify the difference between Wii and Wii U on day one of the Wii U's release. Those who were confused with the systems probably didn't do their homework.
