I tried manual with clutch briefly but since it felt so weird I just switched to manual. Might have to give it another shot now tho!

Quick summary: using the clutch pedal and shifter is impossible to get right with damage on.
Long explanation: so my issue with this is as follows: in real life, the feel of the shifter (which is attached by linkages to the gears) is directly related to the clutch pedal (which is attached through linkages to the gears). Unless certain conditions are met, for the most part, you cannot physically take the car out of gear or put it back into gear without pushing in the clutch pedal. (There are exceptions to this; I drove a semi for fifteen years and didn't clutch on gear changes, only when starting and stopping.) Point is... the timing window applied in this game is a touch TOO realistic (I know, right?), with an exaggerated penalty applied in the form of transmission damage. Not shifting perfectly will have an effect on performance, but when the game applies damage to the transmission, it then makes those mistimed shifts even harder to get control of. The player never gets a chance to work their way into the correct window because the window keeps changing as the transmission continues to take damage shift after shift. I watched my telemetry for a (very awkward) lap, and near as I could tell, every shift damaged my transmission another 1-2% until shifting had such a huge delay, it almost wasn't worth doing at all. I'd be fine to turn off the simulation damage and just try to work through the timing (which is different on every car and different still with every upgrade to that car), but the devs decided to lump that selection in with the penalty system and the rewind availability instead of allowing me to just turn off the simulation damage. So now I'm faced with a few choices I don't like: I could go manual without clutch (boring and unnatural feeling now), or I could choose the lower ruleset (even though I want to keep the other things from the higher ruleset), or I could commit to trying to figure out the variable timing window on each car, all while continuing to change that window every time I miss a beat (it's un-gas, clutch, ungear, pause, gear, un-clutch, gas and I mess up something in there every time).

They made it so that its broken on pedals when running a stock trans/clutch. Even in real life I could shift faster in a 80s worn out econobox faster than the game is letting me shift modern day sport cars. Its making it so its just faster to drive without a clutch
couldn’t agree more, i tried using manual w/clutch on my pedals earlier and it felt horrible. i know i can change gears so much faster than the game allows me to, i feel like i have less control of the car
I have an rsx type s with stock transmission and i can shift very quickly. This feels like crap having to clutch in, put into gear, wait a few years, and clutch out. I can’t enjoy manual with clutch until upgrading the damn car. I’m just gonna play with manual until I can upgrade trans.
This, exactly. I refunded this garbage after about 30 minutes and a few cars. Not realistic at all. And forget about heel toe downshifting lol. Big rig's can shift faster than this game allows. Went back to Assetto Corsa and all is well.
This is pretty much what everyone’s opinions is infact I said this exact same thing in another video ! I drove cars from the 80’s that shift faster without damaging anything IN REAL LIFE
@@ardisulifr this game does the real life cars a disservice shifting feels like glass, and it is soooo slow and unrealistic from the real stock cars

Thanks for letting us know Raceboy! I've had the same issues with the FH4 clutch I think as well, and maybe it was present in 7 also but I definitely felt it in FH4 from limited play time on there. Good to know that it improves as you upgrade but I've found if you purposely try and shift early that it crunches gears a lot too, more often than high in the rev range on stock cars also. Saw you got 15th when I checked a few days ago on the Corvette Maple Valley rivals and thought wow. I spent many hundreds of laps chasing you round on Long Beach with your escort tune on Forza 5

Great video! I was wondering why I was missing the clutch in the new game but that was because I was so used to doing it at the same time in all the other games
I use a rig and noticed it as well. Started driving and shifting like I would my own vehicle and it's good. I have occasionall problems though.could be releasing the clutch to fast or getting on gas to early or letting the revs fall to far. I feel I may have a work around, I may switch my shifter from H to sequential to see if that'll eliminate the time from gate to gate.ill give it a try later today. Seems really plausible and makes total sense in my head. Maybe I'm "not double clutching like I should"- Dominic Toretto

I'm using a fanatec steering wheel & even when I put the gearbox into 1st after pressing the clutch then releasing the clutch it stalls every time unless I spam the clutch & eventually it takes off but long after everyone else. The clutch just doesn't seem to work at all like real life whether it's a road car or racing car.

Cars in this game shifts like cars from the 70’s when transmissions would still be considered “dog box” or “junk” lol

Exactly only time I ever shifted slow in real life was driving a car from the 70’s this game makes every transmission sloooow as if auto manufactures can’t make good transmissions anymore! Lololol

But no car shifts this slow, and the penalty for missing it is damaging the whole transmission not burning the clutch…
In the car I tried upgrading to race transmission I could use paddles and no clutch. But Manual + clutch setting still required blip on downshifts. Manual only has auto blip so perhaps that’s the difference to the racecars that don’t require clutch or blip.
Do you hold the clutch button (left bumper) down while shifting? I’m still unable to follow through.
I tired this and it's still not shifting right. Either they made these cars so slow to shift or its just completely broken.
Clutch in, shift, take a smoke brake , then clutch out. I can shift faster in my nissan pick up than anything in the game. Anyways passenger vehicles have these things called syncros. Push in the clutch, put it in gear, let off the clutch, it will be in that gear.
In real life I have a gt86 it shifts real quick if I had to guess, it’s only .100 of a second wait till I can lay on the gas
In forza 2023 it takes .600 of a second to shift! That is waaaay off track from the real life car
In game from a stats viewpoint, that car is legit slower than the real life car because you have to granny shift every single time
To me it’s very very frustrating because I DO HAVE THE REAL CAR AND THE REAL THING IS ACTUALLY WAY BETTER THAN THE GAME. Lmaooo
They wanted to “focus on accuracy and realism” and an entry level wheel and shifter break the game 🤣
how do you launch on wheel w manual and clutch? every beginning and start it stalls and won’t launch at all

I’m trying to get this down for the weekly featured rival, currently 2nd but my shifting is costing me time still not sure what I’m doing wrong
Ive used clutch since forza Motorsport 3 and this change has completely destroyed the way to use it.
I played FM3 when i was a kid around 2009-2012 and was never that good. I got really decent during FM5. then I started tuning on FM7 and got addicted to trying to figure out how and why RACEBOY was so quick. It was honestly really cool to start rising up the leaderboards week by week until sometimes I'd be right under Raceboy by like 5-10 places. then I had some tunes that started blowing up with downloads! it was so cool! But then it all changed when they opened the game up to gamepass without saying a word. overnight the game was unplayable and before I knew it my friends were getting banned and I was finding the game no longer fun. at this point I think I am not going to download FM8 as tempted as I am. really sad state of affairs given the outstanding physics engine underneath the shell of unplayability and toxic ignorance in this community. I prefer tuning motorcycles IRL anyway at this point. plus girls like men with bikes.
New player here. I don't like the fact that I can shift quickly in every other game other than this one. It shouldn't be based on transmission type, but rather how long you have the clutch in for. I find myself pressing the clutch button, shifting right after, and getting a delayed shift that makes my engine red line. I get uts for the realism, but I'm not even past the tutorial races and it's pissing me off
Yooo I wondered this yesterday it looked like it skipped when changing gears like the clutch wasn’t engaging
yeah you must be forgetting to hold it at all when pressing B to shift up. But I can feel the vibration of it crunching a ton if I shift at lower revs so I just avoided manual clutch on this game and also had the same issue with FH4
@@Stallzyx definitely not forgetting because it’s a and b up a and x down can’t see how am missing it am going to stick at using clutch because that’s what I am used to I like using a pop of clutch out of hair pins but not sure if it’s faster to use clutch anymore tho
@@danny-1993 A and B up, A and X down? No it's just X down and B up along with clutch if you have manual with clutch on. Pressing A is doing the handbrake

What’s up with the dct shifting so slow when using manual with clutch
Any one on here have raceboy77 set up on Ferrari F40. This was on forza motorsport 5. The lap time with his setups and easy to drive the cars. Does raceboy77 have a page to copy his setups???

I think there are times where they’re close but manual with clutch is usually quicker

In principle not much has changed. Now you just have to hold the button a little longer, 0.5 seconds to be exact (in the menu you have to set it to the lowest). You can still press the buttons at the same time, just hold it 0,5 seconds
What letters are they? 0:21
I use A as clutch, B as shift up, X as shift down.

I don't use that configuration... I use the right stick to accelerate and brake. My clutch is the left trigger. In Forza 7 I don't have any problem with the clutch trigger, in this new Forza I have to squeeze the left trigger as much as possible to guarantee quick gear changes. I'm not just talking about reaching the end of the trigger stroke, but by squeezing it hard, with the movement of the control that this entails, the precision of braking and steering becomes uncontrolled, especially when braking. If the gears are not engaged correctly when downshifting, the cars are uncontrollable, especially the rear-wheel drive ones. It's exasperating.
Try adjusting your clutch deadline to initiate earlier. Go like 0-20 on it.
Do you know why when using manual+clutch at the start of the race my car doesnt accelerate immediately? It like stutters....
Might be stalling due to a long first gear. Some cars need their first gears adjusted to launch properly.
@@Raceboy77that’s unrealistic from real life though, if an auto manufacture came out with a car that couldn’t even get out of first gear, that would be a problem

Is the clutch finally analog? Or is it still an off/on button like before?
Because if it's not, this is just a downgrade and annoying.
On controller, there’s not much of a way to make the clutch have throw without using a trigger or joystick. It’s always had throw as a pedal and people used to slip it for launching cars.
If driving an automatic car in game, you shouldn't need to clutch a car that doesn't have a clutch IRL. The mess turn 10 have made with a simple gear change is a joke. Drivng a DCT car is this game is horrible. If your DCT car shifted like this in real life you'd think it was broken. Anyone who actually drives a car knows what I'm talking about. The gearbox should be fast and smooth, not bouncing all over the rpm after an upshift.
Hate this new shifting makes the game almost unplayable with a wheel and shifter because I have to shift so slow in a stock car and I miss shifts can’t downshift and I daily a manual car so it’s not like I can’t drive

No. Just no. The regular/real manual transmission should work the way we expect it to. The race/sequential box should work the way you're saying. Unlocking a normal transmission should not be an upgrade
i meannnnn motorcycles are the way he's explaining..... but I do admit they are technically sequential but not dogboxes.... its just a video game dude, if you want to do this irl then do this irl. I purchased a harley and rebuilt that with my time and money instead of FM8.
