    14:40 was my favorite. I'm not usually a fan of wide for portraits but this is one of those rare occurrences that work really really well. The light is just amazing.

    Great stuff as usual! I’m sure you’ve thought about it but do you know what would really help, is when you share each pic you can include the settings too eg f-stop, shutter speed, iso, so we can learn not just composition but the different settings you use under different environment ☺️

    Absolutely love ultrawide lenses out in the street in downtown areas. So good for architecture.
    Especially in the part of Chicago you're at, so many great lobbies to photograph.

    Love running through the streets with a 12mm in my bag. Whenever I get bored with whatever I have on my camera that day, I can challenge myself with the ultrawide. And the lense being manual (Voigtländer) makes the process even more fun.

    Here’s a suggestion- with an ultra-wide lens you can get REALLY close to your subject. This doesn’t work for portraits, especially doing street photography. But you can get awesome shots where the subject absolutely dominates the shot. And everything is still in focus!
    Too bad about Central Camera. But they’re open again with limited hours, and stock film at reasonable prices.

    Pierre - an idea for your next video. Take night shots using >1s exposures and you're only allowed hand-held shots without using anything (or anyone) to stabilise the shots (tripods, resting hands on a wall, pipe etc etc etc).

    Seems like there has been a craze for Vloggers to use ultra wide lenses through their smartphones, go pros or mirrorless cameras. I’m convinced it’s hard to make compelling video or photos with focal lengths this wide. I think 18 mm would be my cut off point. I prefer 30-35 mm. It’s ironic but the 35 mm is becoming a lost focal length. I believe it’s the most versatile and effective, between that sweet spot of wide and tight. This was a great effort but also kind of shows that 14 mm is just not a good focal length.

    • @gunnarbjarkiii
      @gunnarbjarkiii 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, well the 24mm 1.4 lens is the widest lens i go for, i have a 16-35mm that i never use because i feel like 16 -20 is just a bit too wide, 35mm is also a great one, but i feel like for video that the 24mm is more versatile than the 35mm

    • @mathlfr
      @mathlfr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say 50mm is as wide as I'd go for portrait

    • @RyougiVector

      Yeah IME with this kind of ultrawide FOV, a compelling shot requires you to either shoot quite closely, shoot low, lean heavily on leading lines (so match the perspective distortion to your environment), crop, or some combination of these observations. The reflection shots he took were actually pretty neat. But ultimately I find 28-35mm to be wide enough without sacrificing reach, and it's approximately the FOV to which I'd crop in post, if I only had an ultrawide on hand or shot from the hip with one.
      EDIT: and of course, UWA can be very useful for indoor shots

    I had a 14mm on my GAS list but I realised it's not worth it for me, as I already have a 16-35 and I really don't go beyond that 16mm often enough to justify the cost.
    Great for architecture though - the distortion of an UWA looks fantastic!

    le peu de fois ou j'ai shooté en ville , j'ai été très embêté dans bien des cas par le manque de recul dont je disposais pour avoir le cadrage que je voulais...tout ça car ma focale était un poil trop longue.
    Avec un ultra grand angle je trouve que ça ouvre beaucoup de possibilités en photos de rue...pas sur que ce soit le plus compliqué.
    En tout cas je trouve ces photos ma foi bien réussies...bien joué !

    looks great. However it is so specific that for my z6ii i would better choose a wider range like Z 14-24mm F/2.8 (2700 euros) or, much cheaper, with good feedbacks, the Z 14-30mm F/4 (1200 euros). Also a great thing with these is you don't have big ball on lens and you can screw a UV protective filter,...
    By memory you also had nice street shoots in ultra wide angle mode of iphone 12 pro max, isn't it ? big quality difference with these alpha 1 + 14mm F/1.8 images (of course there is but lightroom+DXO can make miracles) ?
