I’m BACK! Took a month break off social and felt super recharged!! Hope everyone’s been staying cool. It’s been hot in Cali lately and I’m sweating my bum off shooting all these b-roll 😅 What’s everyone’s plan for the 4th of July weekend?
I went with the 14 GM. My 16-35 GM is sometimes too slow for what I need and the 12-24 G was even slower. When I did use the 12-24 G I seemed to use 14 more than 12 and if I needed less wider than 14, I would just go back to the 16-35. Having a smaller, faster, lighter, and closer focusing lens in my bag replaced the 12-24 G for me.
I recently invested in the 14mm, and I am absolutely blown away. The Wide angle and speed have produced phenomenal photos! I contemplated the 16-35mm vs 14mm, but for the price of the 16-35mm, I could buy the 14mm, 35mm and 50mm. So that made more sense to me.
Glad to see your videos on my subscriptions tab again Jason! The 14mm GM looks awesome and definitely a contender to the Batis 18mm. Welcome back and looking forward to watching more of your videos again!
Hey Jason, I'm a huge fan of your channel!! I just bought the 14 1.8 GM for my a7c and a7s3. Cant wait for it arrive! By the way 4:08 cracks me up even time I watch it (and I've watched this video many times! )
OK, maybe I’m late to the table hear, but wanted to say “great video,” I feel your struggle. I don’t do a lot of video, and I don’t have the experience you do with so many lenses, but I thought I’d add some comments from more of a stills perspective. I’ve rented the 14 a couple times for astro photography (in Borrego & Death Valley) and loved it! It compliments the 16-35 GM very well for that use, and I found I preferred the 14 GM. I used it for landscape too, but found the 16-35 GM on the camera much more often, because of the sweet, sweet focal range. That said, I was able to get some effects I just couldn’t at 16mm. The 14 iGM is an amazing lens for architecture too - I only shot a few houses, all the while, wishing I had it when shooting cathedrals in France. The thing that struck me most is that it is so sharp for such a wide angle. I am a horrible pixel peeper on my A7RIV images, and this sharpness instilled confidence to use it in so many cases. I’ve agonized for a while whether to get the 20mm or the 14mm, and have decided the 14mm is definitely the next lens on my buy list.
I just started using the 20G on my a6400, and I'm starting to think that it might be the best all-around setup out there. I thought long and hard about ordering the 14GM, and I have the 24GM in my work kit, but it ultimately came down to weight. I wanted something that I could easily transition between vlogging, shooting some stills, pop on a tripod to do an interview style video, and pack away easily. I supplement that with a couple of CCTV lenses (16mm f1.4 and 50mm f1.4) that get me some dope visuals. I still think I might add the 14 to my collection someday, but for now that 20G is working out great for me.
@@MollyFitzBrown i don't typically mind carrying around that much weight, but i figure i would rather "spend" the weight on extra battery options. If i can carry slightly lighter (but still very good) glass, but have a camera that i don't have to change the battery on in a whole day of shooting, and both rigs end up weighing roughly the same, i'd have to go with the longer battery life. I'd rather have a few hundred more shots at the end of the day.
@@Hobbies4Hire that makes sense. I do a lot of handheld vlogging so I like as light as possible but looking for best quality for the weight :) the a7c has had great battery life for me so far!

I actually own that sigma lens for 1.5 year and had to sell it with 20mm 1.8 G or get this one, depending on you but on my personal experience for using it a lot, its quite heavy and my wrist in a long term would suffer because I started feeling the pain. but with quality in terms of sharpness and focus, you wont regret it. Another reason I sold it is also because I can put filters on it. But yea goodluck, its a never ending debate tbh.

@@JasonVong Thanks Jason! I think I'll go with the Zeiss 18mm for now using one of your MPB referral links. It's always seemed like a solid choice and its so light! I appreciate you responding to my message on a three year old video. If you're in Japan over the holidays and want to meet up with some industry animators, feel free to reach out. ;) Thanks for all you do!
Hey, do you still have the Sony a1?
What about the 12-24 2.8?
And for filter the y no filter for Sony 14 mm 1.8🥺
Photographer: I need this
Credit limit: Are you sure?
Actually for vlogging the Samyang 18mm Fe f/2.8 is an option although I believe the 20mm G is a great all round lens the 18mm Samyang is far more budget friendly
Yes, and it’s the lightest autofocusing 18mm (not the Batis). I’ve been using it for all kinds of stuff, and it keeps surprising me.
I'm Not photographer but I love take pictures, and my question is? In your opinion 50mm 1.2 or 14mm 1.8 for portrait which one is better for it? I know bot lenses are good, but I'd like to buy one of them but I can decide!
50 1.2 is great for portrait. 14mm is not for portraits (it is for Astro, landscapes, interiors, architecture)
Would you recommend a7iii over a7c for strictly photography? Is the real time tracking on a7c a compelling reason to get it when they are both the same price?
Real Time tracking works better on the a7c for sure so it will depend how often you would need to take advantage of somethign like that.
Thank you so much Jason!! This was very helpful & I got my a7c! I wish you had an Amazon UK affiliate link that I could've used!
Also, love your setup video for a7iii.. Could you also consider doing something similar for a7c please?
hey you forgot 16-50mm kit lens on apsc body ! i personally use on my sony a5100 i love it too much
I used to have a 5100 with a kit lens and I LOVED it. It was the perfect pocket travel camera. I sold it to buy the A6500. Now I also have a A7iii and as much as I love it, I still think about my a5100. I regret selling it and I’m considering replacing it. It was just so small and reliable. I’m glad I’m not alone.
@@ashleystevens4778 Yupp .. it's my main camera since almost a year for all my client works and it changed my life it bought food to my table and paid my rent .. in few more months I will try to upgrade to a7iii or a7iv (badly waiting for it to release)
Can you use this lens on a Sony a6600???
Review the Tamron 11-20 please!!!
Great video! Regarding Sharpness and quality image wise, which lens would you pick? Batis 18mm or 14GM? Thanks!
Not even a mention of the super cheap Samyang 18mm f2.8 ?
What about Tamron 11-20mm??
You internal debate - I got the 14GM and sold the 18 Batis and dont look back.
Halooo jason! Can a7iii+14mm perfectly balance with dji ronin sc? Hope to hear some advice from you 🙏🏻
i love the laowa 10-18 in every way but the only downside is its just usable from f8 and above
thumb b4 watch, you're welcome Jason. Peace!
thanks man!! have a good one!
