      Thank you. We also have a review on the Glock 40 (not really truly "new" anymore, but the latest in their 10mm series). The G20 is good for most anything you want to do, the G40 is cool if you want the biggest, baddest Glock there is.

      Hi Hammer Striker! As a novice, I'm enjoying your videos and finding them quite insightful. My family and I intend on camping a lot more here in Arizona, nothing too out of the way but there's plenty of space out here. I want to be prepared and protected and I've been doing my research about the best "camp caliber" if you will and I've landed on either the .357 mag (probably the Taurus mod 66) or the Glock G20 10mm. Which would you suggest considering my use and geography? Thank you for any insight you provide!!

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Adam, I would go with the 10mm over the .357. In 10mm you have higher capacity, the ability to dispatch any predator you are likely to encounter (2 or 4 legs) and the ease of faster reloads. With the ability to load hot or mild 10mm rounds you can balance between range and defense to enjoy shooting it. Personally, I prefer the Glocks and the Glock 20 or Glock 29 would be excellent all-around defense/range/camp/hunt guns. I have taken my 20 and 29 on wild boar hunts with full confidence it will get the job done.

    I can't figure out why ammo
    manufacturers do not flood
    the market with 10mm ammo.
    The prices would go down.
    And the demand would be
    comparable to other calibers.
    I could use a box of 500-1,000 rnds.
    of ammo at a time.
    They are suppose to come out

    After observing the reviews & numbers the G20 puts up its really nothing bad you can say about it. The only thing is might be too much power for some people. G20 just holds its own I'll take it deep in the woods or mountains without a backup just because of what the G20 is capable of doing. The reliability & ruggedness of a glock.

      Thank-you.
      "Caliber escalation" is unfortunately quite common, both in concealed carry discussions as well as large critter defense. As you read the various blogs, it starts to sound like nothing short of a 500 S&W will be useful for anything bigger than a squirrel.
      Though a heavy caliber rifle is guaranteed to put something down, it is usually impossible to get such a weapon in play when you get jumped. For "Oh @#$! where did THAT come from" - I feel comfortable with 10mm up to and including black bear. For grizzly, I would move up to .454 Casull.

    I went 10mm for a reason. Was seeing way to many bad guys taking 5 or 6 shots from 9mm's and still moving. Saw a video where a cop shot a guy 5 times then his partner had to shoot him 3 more times with their 9mm's. And he wasnt wearing body armor. Then I watched another video of a man shooting a 400lb black bear twice with a 10mm. took it down. Nuff said.

    without the back straps and extra mag what's the difference between the Gen 4 and SF?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The SF (Gen 3) is the same size grip as a Gen 4 without adding any of the replaceable backstraps. The Gen4 uses the dual recoil spring setup, Gen 3 is a single. The dual recoil spring is intended to allow less felt recoil and improve reliability across varying ammo power. Gen 4 allows mag-release to be swapped to right-side for lefties. Gen 4 has more aggressive stippling to improve grip. Minor cosmetic differences beyond that.

    For 40s&w your better off with a 155gr or 165gr bullet!!! The lighter rounds in the 40s&w deliver more energy!!! Like for example the Winchester Silvertip 155gr bullets are generating about 500ftlbs of energy which is damn good for a 40s&w!!! But I'll stick with 10mm where mild loads still usually generate 50 to 100 ftlbs more of energy!!!

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Edwin Zambrona That depends on what you intend to use it for. I have both, the G29 is great for concealed carry and still fun at the range. 10mm is one round that will take advantage of a longer barrel when using full power loads. If you are going to open carry or hunt with it then the G20 is a good choice. The larger grip on the G20 can make it easier to handle if you are looking for a range gun. One other option, if the larger gun is in consideration (budget permitting) is the G40. The G40 is great for everything the G20 is and supports mounting a micro red-do, the G40 has taken over the "hunting" role from my G29.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This one has been flawless from round one.
      I did a little looking around. Ignoring the guys who refuse to clean/oil their gun or had changed out springs and other parts for "better performance", the most likely cause is allowing it to flip. 10mm is a powerful high-velocity round and a weak grip which allows the gun to flip will burn off a lot of the energy needed to properly cycle. This will result in FTE (often a stovepipe) or FTF as the slide doesn't run all the way.
      I have fed this some of Underwood's beastliest offerings as well as Armscor, PPU, and Federal range ammo and it has eaten it right up and run fine.

    Does the G20SF and G20 G4 have thesame grip size without the back strap? Thank you in advance.. thinking if getting the SF.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, that's how they are. The G20SF and the G4 with no backstrap are the same size, then adding the smaller backstrap makes it equal to a "standard" G20 then the largest backstrap is bigger than both.

    • @montanamike7948

    I had issues with my G20SF and gen 4 G29 with light primer strikes with European ammo. The issues occurred with PPU and Sellier & Bellot ammo. I sent guns back to Glock to no avail. I got a Colt Delta Elite instead and issue was fixed.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had problems with Seller & Bellot on some occasions in several different guns (Glocks and others). It appears they make two versions, one of which has less-sensitive primers. I think it may be intended for the open-bolt sub-machine guns that are popular over there and less likely to slam-fire. You never know which variant you are going to get at the range or online. There are "Extra Power" springs available to overcome this but you start to run the risk of puncturing a primer and will also have a heavier trigger pull. I avoid S&B because of that experience.
      I have not had any issues at all with PPU, though it seems to be less readily available here in Central Florida.
      The Colt Delta Elite is a very nice gun, though it does cost about the same as the G20 and G29 combined.

      Personally, I prefer the Gen 4s due to the replaceable backstraps and dual recoil spring. The grip body is actually smaller on a Gen 4 with no backstrap installed (roughly equals a Gen 3 SF model). You can make it equal or larger depending upon which backstrap you install. The dual recoil spring is basically a two-stage spring which helps even out the recoil. However, the Gen 3s are solid and reliable and if you choose one you are not making a mistake.

    Hi. Have you tried shooting a .40 with this gun? Thanks.

      I have not, though I know that technically it can be. There are a few issues to consider before doing so. It is unlikely to cause a KB so that is not a concern but the case is shorter so it doesn't headspace on the chamber ridge. Instead the extractor is forced to do that job, sorta holding the case by the edge and trying to center it in the chamber. This causes extra stress on that part an increases the likelihood of extractor failure. Additionally, average range .40 is near or below the minimum spec for 10mm's min/max range. This means that the heavier springs put into most 10mm guns to handle ammo at the top of the 10mm scale (Underwood, Buffalo Bore) may be too heavy for low-end .40. This would result in poor cycling performance (FTF, FTE, Stovepipes, etc.). Check out sites like gunbot.net where you can find good ammo prices online and you can get inexpensive 10mm range ammo for not a whole lot more than .40 that is good enough to be able to reliably cycle the gun. I won't say you cannot because plenty of people have, but in my opinion it is not the best choice to be able to enjoy your 10mm.

    Glock 20 or Sig p320 45

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jeremy beverly The cartridges are different enough that you would have to first decide upon that. 10mm is a bit intense for many people while most can easily handle and enjoy the .45 acp If you compare a Glock .45 such as the 29 or 21 to the p320 then I would likely choose the Glock. Not due to any issue with the Sig, only based on the track record of reliability I have experienced with the Glocks.

    Is there much recoil difference on this one compared to the Gen 4 21 ?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Surprisingly, that will actually vary due to the ammo itself.
      .45 ACP is pretty consistent across range ammo and then again across defense (ie: Most all .45acp range ammo feels similar to each other across range ammo, and then the defense ammo which is usually hotter is pretty similar across that type) so when you take a .45 ACP to the range that particular gun will be pretty predictable.
      10mm has a huge range of loadings, with some as weak as light .40 S&W and some (like Underwood's offerings)that approach or exceed .357 Magnum.
      If you try to do an equivalent comparison by getting 10mm loaded to the same percentage of the 10mm SAMI spec as the .45 is to it's SAMI spec then the 10mm will be a noticeably stronger recoil. If you get maxed out 10mm and maxed out .45, the 10mm will be significantly stronger.
      Most inexpensive 10mm range ammo is loaded down to the bottom of the spec and will feel almost the same or lighter than .45.
      So, in this case, it will really come down to what you feed them.
