  • I participated on the Arctic Cat 2024 photo shoot in January and published a video about my first impressions of the Catalyst platform. At the time, not much was known, and I promised Arctic Cat that I wouldn't divulge information they weren't prepared to release to the public.
    I'm no longer asked to refrain from talking about details and this video is a continuation of that first video in January.

    Great review. Glad to see you haven't drank so much of the green kool-aid that you didn't see a couple of shortcomings. I had the opportunity to take a ride during one of the demo's and was surprised at how quickly the improvements in ride, handling, and power became evident. Like you, I could find a couple of items I wish would have seen upgrade, but they're definitely heading a great direction.

    I agree. The gauges are more difficult than they need to be. Lights and positional or a palpable click would help. Gauges requires to much Focus or eyes off the trail to see the settings.
    I also am concerned with the firmness of the seat on a long day. I had a 2012 F1100 that came with a firm seat and cat changed after a few seasons. I did upgrade my seat.

      I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen an aftermarket seat for the ZR. Rox Speed FX has a seat cover, but nobody seems to be interested in changing the seat design yet. Maybe it's too early in the development cycle for enough people t complain, I don't know.

      Thanks for replying. I just found your videos. Very well done. I think they will soften it in future models. I am guessing they wanted rider position feed back regardless of the size and weight of the rider.

    Great video as always, and yes I do hope Cat offers a color display as an option for 25 to keep up with the others!

      Me, too. Seems like Garmin should have something off the shelf that would work as a combo GPS / gauge with all their aviation products. Adapting something from them might be cheaper than trying to come up with their own.

    Hopefully, they can team up with Polaris and get the gps and tracking systems. Truthfully every manufacturer should do it, but hey we can hope.

      That's actually a good idea. I think the Polaris Ride Command and 7S displays are the best in the industry. They should license it.

      There has been an excellent all-in-one gauge system for Arctic Cat snowmobiles for years. It is called the NS1 and is available from Next Stage Gauges in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota. It is even better than the 7S from Polaris.

    Great video and great information! I'm torn between buying this new Catalyst and the Polaris Matryx. I currently have (2) 2016 ZR 8000 137 Limited's (one for me and one for my wife). They have been great sleds and I love them, but after sitting on the procross in a showroom recently, side by side next to a G5 ski doo and polaris matryx you see the diffrence ! The procross is a bloated pig in comparison and the seat is way too soft. I'm thinking of getting the Catalyst for my wife and the Matryx 850 for me. The way I see it is I would actually be getting 2 new sleds for me 🙂 She rarely rides. I had a 2014 El Tigre 6000 and I really miss that sled, light weight and plenty of power for a 600!

    • @ponycarfan
      @ponycarfan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that sounds like a good plan. The ProCross is a lumber wagon. While it's been a good design, the time has come and the Catalyst will be able to compete with - or beat - the competition, in terms of ergos and handling. Check with your Arctic Cat dealer - some have a waiting list for Catalyst models. Order through your dealer if they can put you on a waiting list. Otherwise, Order online. I've heard 8:00 am Central on March 7, but you might try earlier, just in case that's not correct.

      Run an 18 el Tigre 800, been a good sled just heavy and boat like, ready for a new model soon but skidoo is putting out nice sleds lately, find Polaris has had many reliability issues, like to stay with cat but $20.5k CND for a 600 is insulting

    • @ponycarfan
      @ponycarfan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think Cat's prices are as far out of line compared to Ski Doo's as it appears (at least, in terms of $US - I wonder if Doo has an advantage in Canada because of customs or something). Cat doesn't have a price leader for each model, like Ski Doo does. That's a weakness in Cat's lineup, in my opinion, and I hope they organize their lineup next year to include something like that.

    • @ponycarfan
      @ponycarfan  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I will say this about prices - they're all getting so expensive that it's getting hard to justify buying new. I remember looking at a MXZ TNT 600R and a Polaris Indy 600 SP before Covid and both could be bought - brand new - for about $10k US. Same sled now is 40% higher or more. It's getting ridiculous.

      I’d be worried about Polaris’s reliability…

    You say the 129 gets a uncoupled skid… what about the 137 ZR? Same thing?

    • @ponycarfan
      @ponycarfan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I know of. The 137 is a coupled slide action suspension. I believe the geometry is a little different, but basically similar to the ProCross. The 129 is uncoupled.

    How’s the power? Anyone drag race a previous year ctec 600?

    • @ponycarfan
      @ponycarfan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Power is good. I’d call it “better than last year”, judging by the seat of the pants. The engineers told us power would be about the same as the previous CTec, but the weight loss made it feel like there was more to it. We didn’t have any 2023’s to ride, only 24’s. We did compare it to the 800, but not a serious head to head. At that elevation, the 800 didn’t feel as strong, and the 600 felt like it could keep up. Again, all I have is what it felt like, and all of us were happy with the performance.

    Imagine the nightmare of any problems and lack of dealerships.... My last experience with an ac dealer was dealing with amateurs. Terrible experience, and that's the reason I wouldn't even consider an ac again. The only reason I would even ponder the thought of an ac ..... 8k. Not a penny more. (And in not talking about the BLAST)

    • @ponycarfan
      @ponycarfan  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not good. I've got some good dealers for all brands near me. Not having that support near me would be a deal breaker, doesn't matter what it is. These things are a lot more expensive than a weed wacker and a lot more catastrophic when things go bad.

    • @Kevin-ix4qz
      @Kevin-ix4qz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ponycarfan agreed. Hence, no ac for me. And even worse, I live in MN

  • @robertm7554

    It’s not done. They obviously threw it out there before it was done because the pressure was getting too great. The “real” one, with the “real” engine, “real” display etc will be available for order next year. Everyone that orders one this year is going to kick themselves later on.

    • @ponycarfan
      @ponycarfan  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would've been nice to have a full year of racing under its belt before consumers got it, but for those who ride 600's it should be fine.
